I'm gonna have to start a Chapter 13 defense force. Probably my favorite in the game because it actually it felt like a whole chapter (9 too I guess).

Edit: drat, I was slow! its up there haha

Tabata's roadmap for upcoming update/DLC is out, had a quick glance at it.

http://www.gamer.ne.jp/news/201612070039/

Short term changes coming:

To improve the experience of chapter 13, they're going to be buffing the ring magic

Mid term:

Planning on adding more scenes on Ravus showing how he appears..... Where he is in the story during chapter 13. Mentions voice work and localization so this will take longer.

Long term:

Plans to add more playable characters you see in the game. Mentions a possible 'Avatar' system they might go for for players to experience for new game playthroughs.

Other stuff:

New Game plus, Holiday pack etc.

I'm not sure how to reconcile the fact that I had fun playing most of the game despite all the flaws and frustrations I have with the gameplay and the story.

It doesn't make sense. I thought the combat was shit, the sidequests were trite and uninspired busywork, dungeons were often frustrating mazes, I thought the story was garbage, I found most the characters completely forgettable and uninteresting, the camera was pure frustration, most of what I wanted to see didn't end up in the game and the world itself was kind of a pain in the ass to get around...

But I still mostly enjoyed it. How is that possible? I mean, I never want to play it again and I certainly didn't feel compelled to do 80% of the sidequests or any of the endgame content, but still...

future update roadmap is released

they are adjusting chapter 13, and also adding stuff like new cutscenes regarding Ravus to make it more clear.

The are also adding some important characters in the game as playable characters.

Too little, too late. I guess I should have put off playing this because I'm not coming back to it now that I've finished the campaign.

My hope is this time next year we might have a truly fleshed out story because of these patches.

It isn't ideal, but i'll take anything :/

No. Absolutely not. Just because it's longer doesn't mean it's any good. It's repetitive, has radically inferior combat and delivers story poorly. It's the worst of the worst the worst.

holy shit, they are actually trying to fix up the narrative and add more cutscenes.
Pretty much the one thing i didn't expect!

Despite the character not being as fleshed out as i would have liked, teh Ravus fight makes it above "worst of the worst of the worst" teir. Its more annoy and grading than it is horrid.

WHAT!? He said because it shipped 5m they will continue the support. And they are talking about fixing later parts first and adding story to the first part.

Essentially what they did was releasing an unfinished game and finishing it post release IF it sold well.

WTF.

lol The fact that you posted this right before the news dropped on them making changes to Ch13 because of how shitty it is, is amaaaazing

Here's Google Translate's rough translation.

Thank you for playing FFXV. FFXV was able to achieve truly great achievement, shipping 5 million copies worldwide on the release date. I would like to express my gratitude to many of you who purchased it.

Currently, I heard that a great many players all over the world are enjoying themselves. I am really pleased that all of the staff have been pleased with the way of playing this new FF.

As promised from before the launch, FFXV is not going to be released and will continue, we will continue to update and will provide a more rich game experience to all the players all over the world. As a gratitude for exceeding 5 million copies this time, I decided to strengthen the update plan considerably beyond the original schedule and inform you of concrete road map.

This is an update to make the FFXV gaming experience more rich, to play for a longer time, and an update based on requests from the players after the release, in addition to the DLC development already reported, It is one that we will serve for free, in short term, medium term, long term separately.

FFXV update roadmap
Short-term target
First, we will further increase the satisfaction level of Chapter 13's gameplay. For that reason, we are already undertaking many enhancements, such as greatly increasing the power of ring magic. We will inform you of details of strengthening content and time of offering at a later date again.

Medium-term target
Strengthen the production in the second half of the game, further enhancing the satisfaction of the story experience. For example, we are planning to add an event scene where "Ravens character traced its fate" was drawn. To add event scenes, voice response and localization work to all languages will occur, so we will work firmly as a medium-term goal. Details of the plan will be announced once it is decided.

Long term goal
We will make it possible to use important characters that appeared in the main game as Playable Characters. We will also consider adding an avatar system to create original characters and play games.

In addition to this, we will continue to actively update various players so that we can enjoy FFXV for a long time.

others
I will try to play in the new game while taking over the status at the time of clearing. Low level clear, unbeatable suit etc. We offer various items which broaden the range of play. Enlarge the font to make the message easier to read.

We offer content to enjoy games live, such as boss fight with remuneration and achievements, limited time mob hunt and so on.

That's okay I like being different

I welcome the changes but I wonder what new playable characters they mean. Like they'll be adding new sections to the game where you play as, say, Luna or Ravus?

But first plz patch the game, I had 4 crashes today. Super annoying. At least I finished the game before all these crashes happened but still

Trying to fix the story with patches is kinda nuts.

It is, but then again, if any game has a chance for that to actually happen, its this one.

I maintain that the story is indeed salvageable, but it will require a lot of cutscenes for characters like vertstale, the emperor, regis, and especially Luna.

There was never any doubt. Fixing it suggests that they actually DO want to milk the FFXV brand for the rest of the gen.

They can't really fix it, though. The plot and characterizations are swiss cheese.

How many of you who had a lot of problems with the gameplay, as well as the story, actually want to replay the whole thing again? Not me.

The Ravus fight that just sort of comes out of nowhere after you just randomly stumble upon his corpse. I laughed when that happens. It seemed he was going to be a major character but them just unceremoniously dies. It's good they're adding more to his story.

Still, an okay boss fight - I guess one of the best by process of elimination - does not make up for two hours of hell. I honestly can't think of any dungeon more taxing in FF history, combined with the blandest visuals and gimped gameplay.

It's nice that they are going to take time to finish the last third of the storyline though instead of just leaving it bare bones. Kinda shitty though. Wish they would have just delayed it until March or something but I'm still quite satisfied with what I have. Maybe this can be Tabata's pet project while Kitase comes out of Producer retirement and co-directs XVI with Itou while Toriyama keeps on shining XIII Trilogy HD remaster.

Ito is the only one who can save the franchise. Another FFIX caliber story and characters PLZ

Kitase has been tainted by Toriyama though. No thx

Remember how Tabata created an update for a demo?
I think they're gonna add new scenes to the story because they saw the complains of everyone and not because they were already planning to do this before launch

Apparently their fix for Chapter 13 is to buff the Ring? Lol, that is hardly the problem with that chapter.

Cut it in half.

I will say this, if they add some dramatic new elements to gameplay, like fixing the camera and being able to use certain characters in your party more, or at least in the endgame, I might come back in a couple years. Maybe. Assuming they also add a ton more to the story. But I doubt they will add enough to satisfy me. They would need to insert an entire plotline with the Emperor, for starters.

Sounds more to me like the management saw the game not perceived as complete trainwreck (read: milkable) and decided to gave Tabata more resources to fix it while working on the obliged DLC. That's (slightly) better than pushing everything into the final 'expansion DLC' which they've not even freaking decided what to do with aside from possible multiplayer.

Tabata hinted few weeks ago the delay from September 30 was only enough to make the game playable without gamebreaking bugs that block progress.

Apparently using the power of the Oracle to create covenants for her man Noctis-sama to be able to get summons was detrimental to her health. But it seemed that the Oracle also had some sort of power to bring out the sun since after she dies the nightfall rapidly becomes longer, so I guess that's why Ardyn killed her?

Who knows

Ravus needs some major screentime.. i like the game we got but this is some bs. At least SE didn't pull a konami with ch3

At least they're fixing it and not dropping it out. :p

What's wrong with Chapter 3?

The curse of being an Oracle. She was affected by the Starscourage.

ah, okay thanks. also i looked at the wiki to learn about starscourage and apparently it's basically midichlorians/nanomachines?

At least they're fixing it and not dropping it out. :p

i think he means act 3 of mgs v, which doesn't exist

I tought that the thing about the Sun was connected with the summons and not Luna
But I don't know.

Is this the shortest FF game ever created in terms of just story content? I feel like only FF1 could give it competition on that front lmao

If not for the driving adding a bit of padding it would be even shorter.

can someone just tell me how this early access bullshit ends? I'm done with Final Fantasy at this point. Please? I hope everyone in that stupid party dies a horrible death.

I don't see how buffing the ring would make chapter 13 any better. The combat for a significant portion of it is holding square since none of the other spells can be pulled off in time. Shit was sad

Man, they just wanted to get it out then. Planning on adding more to the game like that is super bizarre when it's an RPG that isn't complete, lol.

The whole patch/update philosophy that has carved itself into the modern-day game launch regimen is both a frustration and a blessing, particularly so for a predominantly single-player RPG game. It would be quite ridiculous if this game a couple months from now is already much different than it is today. It's telling of just what exactly a shipped game represents as opposed to a complete one. >_<

That's a tired argument for another day, though. Regarding the roadmap goals themselves, however they attempt to edify the second half of the game's narrative I just don't see it working without some sizable additions to the main story content...and that sounds like a bit of work, which I wish 'em luck on, don't get me wrong. If this comes in the form of a CG or two, though, hell, why not, this game was quite bare of 'em and imo could use some more of that FF-cinematic touch, lmao.

I don't know how I feel about adding the option of new playable characters and a customizable avatar in the context of the actual game...but I know I'd like to try it, if only to freshen things up. But man, that does sound like a notable new feature to include in a patch. I really do wonder how far they'll try to go with this, and how long they'll be rolling these out for.

At least we get a functioning game with a functioning story though!

Although is the first time a company is adding scenes to a story post-release?

Ravus, but also the entire empire casting needs more scenes, Love the fact that in the 2013 trailer, you can see the emperor, but in the final game, you see in 1s in his human form and that's it, I guess. You'll meet him later in Chapter 13 in his daemon form.

And also seeing the full invasion of Insomnia, not just some quick cuts.

Not sure if it's really the same thing but there was that Mass Effect 3 extended cut fiasco. :p That's the most significant one I could remember, though.

The Witcher 2 added some scenes in the Enhanced Edition if I remember right, but that was pitched more as a "director's cut" release/update well after the initial release rather than an update announced right after the game came out. Not to mention the fact that TW2 made sense pretty much all the way through upon release :p
