FFXV's future updates adjust chapters, add cutscenes, add playable characters, more

You have to be in a certain part of Eos and meet certain conditions before you can activate a summon. The game checks every 10 seconds to see if you've met those conditions apparently.

Titan is the only one I haven't summoned either and it's a big shame. I really thought they would be more frequent.

I've managed to summon Ramuh a load of times, and Leviathan once. Leviathan was pretty hilarious because it happened in the desert where the only water was a tiny shallow pool nearly a mile away.

My favorite is rumah deciding to come chill when im on the lowest level of a dungeon deep in the ground.

He doesn't even care, he's just like I got you bro and launches his staff 1000 feet underground hahaha. Love it

Made a comment about it in the OT but yeah, I just did the bit in Ch.8 where you went underground to get some ore to fix a boat.... with your enemies who are suddenly cool with you

....and as I said, the lack of coherency with the main plot is fucking infuriating at times as I really want to love this game :(

Ugh, what am I doing wrong in this game. I am terrible at the combat system. Can they please give me a menu based attack system in one of these patches?

I have made it up to chapter 5, and it just isn't clicking with me. Any suggestions?

There actually is a menu-based battle system. Try going into Options -> Combat -> Wait mode. In Wait mode, the game freezes whenever you let go of the stick, and then you can take your sweet time lining up targets, issuing commands, etc. There's even a separate skill tree for Wait mode in the Ascension grid.

I start rolling out as soon as I feel an attack is coming, as if you keep hitting the enemy without moving too much you'll get hit a lot. Warp strikes and such are useful too. Use a tactic like Gladio's Tempest when you're about to get hit and you won't take damage so that's pretty useful too. Also, buy lots of potions and use them as soon as you're in danger. Going around and trying to get your teammates to rescue you is tough as you're exposing yourself to dying often. If you heal as soon as you get in Danger, you don't have to worry about dying so much. And potions are super cheap.

I haven't tried that system. I'll give it a shot.

I'd prefer a FFX or FFXIII esque battle system tho hahaha.

Is it me or some people are expecting that these patches are suddenly going to make the second half an open world? or better yet all the off screen stuff occurs to suddenly be added? Some of you gotta step back lol

Always good advice. Always.

Yes, some hopes are fast becoming expectations. Not a good idea.

In cutscenes yeah. If not then honestly why bother. Especially with explaining other shit like Around histo

How fucking raw would it be if they just
somehow made the post-game world a new game and story by having Umbra inadvertently alter the game's timeline altogether and retconned the shit out of everything including yes, Chapter 13 and everything after that. Hell even somehow prevent Luna's death.

I'm in the "infamous" chapter 13
And holy shit is boring/frustrating as hell.
Just close the game (too much for today)
and what the hell happens with rava, he was a good guy? That doesn't make sense at all.
I just get my weapons back, how much left?

I wish I never watch kingsglaive, the story is awful but playing this after watched the movie is even worse.

How about no, just leave the game how it is and start something new

I read the OP and I think to myself, "Why keep playing?"

I am only on Chapter 3 so I will just wait. But FF games don't lend themselves to that many play throughs for the average. I usually beat the game and close to complete as possible and move on. Why keep playing a game that could fundamentally change the narrative, add characters or cutscenes?

Strange to not just have this stuff in the game to begin with. I thought something was off after the first major cutscene began and there was no dialogue whatsoever, just music.

Man they should release the 60 fps patch already for ps4 pro. I put my 35 hour save to a halt. I am only upto chapter 6. Keep getting sidetracked by hunt and quests.

Just make them alternate endings like Chrono Trigger or Cross.

I just want better fast travel. Doing hunts (which I love) is probably the most painful experience in ffxv. When that hits, I will start playing again

Did you summon Leviathan when you were near the blue circle in the middle of the map?

Eh. Some design tweaks are nice, but some of the bigger bits are unnecessary. It's a very good game with some warts, just take the knowledge to the next project.

More I think about this, the more I am okay with it. Witcher 3 (which didn't need story changes I know) was so improved after patches it's basically an entirely different game now. But the game it is now is the game I think of and remember, even when the game at launch was pretty good. I would have rather the game be delayed before it got to this point, I don't think I know how long this game actually was being developed (starting to think not very long ago) but after those 11 years I don't think I could have waited the delay. I just want this game to be the best it can be, and for square to move on after and for the love of god not show me anything until it's close.

Isn't Iris a minor? Don't get too "accidentally" obsessed with taking shots of her. :p

And that's why we need more post time skip content, so neogaf members don't go to jail.

It was a bit out from Hammerhead. Which doesn't seem to be marked blue on that map?

I just found it funny because of the thought of Leviathan jumping out of a small shallow oasis. :p

To be honest the animation, it just came out of the ground. You'd have thought it was a giant sand worm or something. Fuck knows where it pulled all of that water from for its attack!

You're almost done unless it's just the one weapon which is more like halfway

Ravus
is such a cool guy. He was nice enough to
steal your dad's sword after they killed him
Turns out he was just keeping it warm for you. What a cool guy!

Putting aside outrage that the XV we got isn't "finished", I've come to rather like the idea that XV could get story patched into a kind of director's cut or "Complete" (a la Advent Children Complete) edition. I'd welcome a big fat patch that provides that level of overhaul, even if it takes a year. New well-directed cutscenes? Yes, please.

The game of XV itself is all there, and quite good. The major story beats are there. And the open world nature of the game makes me feel like there's story off-screen that we just didn't see yet. A story patch wouldn't feel like an erasure of the XV that is now... it would feel like an expansion showing the things we weren't yet privy to.

I'm on Chapter 10 right now, and it feels like I witnessed the "lite" telling of a tale. I wouldn't be offended to play through the same story with a little more nuance applied. In particular, I want to know more about Luna, and her relationship to Noct. It would make later events feel even more poignant (and I was surprisingly moved to emotion by the version I have now. I can only appreciate seeing more backstory to this tale).

I know the game's out and exists in some form that culture-at-large won't forget has shortcomings... but if it could be patched into a final version that moulds it into a true classic? I'm okay with it. The game is good now, and would be great with more story beats. We'd all play it in a year and forget the story flaws of the original forever after.

Does SE have a time frame of when all these changes will be available?

The short term patch is out this month, but yet to have a date. Need to hurry, months end is fast approaching.

Yeah, the cutscene stuff probably won't be here until way into next year.

The patched in Kingsglaive & Omen scenes didn't add much to the game for example. If anything they look egregiously grafted onto the game and take away from it.

If the future story patches are of that nature, then I don't see much value on going through with all of this.

It might be better to just move on.

I feel like everyone saying this hasn't finished. I can't stand the thought of coming back after the shit-show of a final third >.<

I doubt the last third could affect my opinion. The bulk of the game is the open world section, and I have finished that part. I feel like I've finished the main part of the game, and everything after Altissia is a denouement. I'm not counting on any part of the last third to "save it"... though everyone seems to love the ending.

I think the open world Lucis section that I've played would benefit greatly from a story patch, and yeah I would gladly play just that again with more story scenes.

I'm on ch6 now and i feel like those scenes were a mistake, they didn't add up a thing in the story and make the game feel incomplete...

I'm also shocked about the lack of introduction for ramuh, he's always been a "guide" kind of summon and now he looks like a sidequest, they could've at least shown his dialogue with luna instead of that silent bs... a lot of things in the first chapter seem a bit tossed around with no buildup... i dunno if it's only my impression tho...

The implication that Rayvus hated Regis/Noct for being the reason Tenabrae was attacked (and his mother killed) in Kingsglaive makes far more sense as a motivation than whatever the fuck they left in FFXV as it is now.

All I can get from the game is that he is trying to claim the power for himself because he doesn't believe Noctis is up to task and that if he doesn't his sister will be sacrificing herself for nothing? Hence his antagonism to Noctis. Then I guess he is swayed by his sister's devotion and decides to hold onto Regis' sword until he deems Noct worthy

Honestly... I feel like they should just say fuck it - and whatever content they cut or was unfinished they should just put back in. At this point I feel like it can't be any worse (or anymore confusing) than what we have in the game right now.

when you fall down the pit in chapter 13 and find his dead body and pick up the sword there are letters on the ground you can read. They're written from him to his sister stating that if Noctis can obtain leviathans power he will find him worthy and give him his fathers sword. My assumption is the empire saw those letters, considered it treason and killed him

So is Version 1.02 the version I should be picking the game back up to play? Or am I still waiting for them to adjust chapters?

If you're wanting to wait for the chapter adjustment and the cutscene additions, it will probably be a while. We don't have an ETA, but many posters here are thinking months.

Is it THAT necessary? Like- is it going to completely change the view of the game?

It wouldn't for me, the framework is there and I'm glad I played it as is. There's a handful of scenes and areas that could be added, expanded on or modified to provide better context and stronger characterization outside your party, but there's also a chance they make it more muddled by tinkering.

I also find dissecting the troubled development fascinating and only really got interested in picking it up around release, so YMMV depending on your level of investment in the series.
