Switch Stream Predictions

Enduin

No bald cap? Lies!
They'll start with the welcome and stating their thesis of the event and Switch as a device with a brief rundown of what will be shown/proven during the event. They open up with a Life Styles trailer similar to the Switch reveal trailer. Lots of pretty people goofily using their Switch in all sorts of different situations being all trendy and shit. Going to the park with your friends, hanging out on the roof top, riding the bus and then going to the big screen at home, making googly eyes with the cute girl on the subway, even Mom getting in on the cool action.

Then they'll go into the presentation part highlighting some choice moments shown in the Life Style trailer and explaining the exact functionality and unique possibilities the Switch offers. Versatility of the device, how it all works, ie Dock vs Handheld modes either explicitly or vaguely pointing to resolution jump/drop, Joycon functionality and features and any initial variations they'll have up for sale at launch that might be unique to games, like Just Dance perhaps. They'll do a rundown of the online connectivity and social media features and unified accounts across all Nintendo platforms and software be they mobile games or Switch.

Most likely they'll have some offical game reveals and showcases with release dates interspersed with trailers for them during this section. BotW, Mario Switch, Spla2oon.0, MK8.5, Mario v. Rabbids, etc and hook in stuff like Amiibos and what not to show off specific features for the system and those games. They'll make a big to do in highlighting a few choice 3rd party games; maybe Skyrim, but probably BG&E2 and something else we don't know about. Then start to finish up by telling us the pricing and bundles, $250 Base 32gb, $300 Deluxe 64gb Splatoon Bundle and Joycon Cradle. Coming out March 17th.

Then they'll end with a line like "here's just a taste of what's to come on the Nintendo Switch," with a huge montage of games that will be coming out at launch, then those coming out some time after launch and then future games TBD for Holiday 2017 and beyond.

And maybe they'll pull some cheeky shit with a super secret game reveal at the end with a "ohh and one more thing," and they'll show off either a major 3rd party game or some major Nintendo franchise reboot we haven't seen in a while.

You know, I thought it was odd that people were talking about Splatoon 2 rather than an enhanced Splatoon port, but it actually makes sense. Nintendo would sell way more copies that way, and I bet they have a ton of ideas leftover from the first game. All they'd need to do is give the visuals a new coat of paint, implement some quality of life improvements, and come up with a few new modes. That seems doable in two years?

ArtHands

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
They show a 3rd party sizzle reel of Skyrim, NBA 2K17, Madden 17, Fifa 17, Bioshock HD Collection, Tekken 7, Return to Arkham, Kingdom Hearts 3, FFXV, Dragon Quest XI. Some are launch, some are not. Skyrim and 2K17 are launch.

Are you sure you are making a prediction thread and not a dream thread?

By "officially in development" I mean not confirmed.

1) "Why put games not coming in trailer" - because there's potentially nothing else?

2) "Why even agree to it?" - A financial/business incentive given to them by Nintendo, i.e. "We'd like to show something and will pay you" and as EA/Bethesda are considering development they'd maybe think "I guess if the reaction is good we'll look into green lighting projects".

I'm not saying either of those points are true. These titles may be in development. However I am baffled as to what harm there would be in saying "yes, this game is being made".

Why would a the PR people officially announce games coming out in 2017 when they have/had versions of those exact same games to sell on other consoles at the time? It's basic PR talk, nowhere does it even suggest they aren't greenlit or in development. Your justifications for my two questions are based on the assumption that Nintendo was so desperate for 3rd party titles they'd lie to tens of millions of people to get a port of a port.

I edited my post to say that I was unaware Todd Howard seemingly confirmed Skyrim, so I'll assume it is going to be launch window now.

However I do believe Nintendo are desparate enough to at least have a reason to want to show the potential of third party support. I don't consider that lying (mock ups are super common).

I think the Switch is a cool idea. However, I dont think the market is sold and after the Wii U it makes perfect sense for third parties to show intense scepticism.

Here are my predictions! Always enjoy these and are my favorite gaming threads on Gaf :).

Length: 60 Minutes

Introduction: 'What is the Switch?' - Lasts 5-10 Minutes
-Reggie comes up on stage and takes the switch out of his jacket pocket saying "Say hello to the Switch!' and continues to explain everything about the system. He mentions things rumored like touch screen, Micro SD Cards and the IR sensors of the Right Joy Con. He will also explain some the OS, with it running on a modified version of the Android OS so it will support various media features & apps. Can interact with it through either touch input or traditional controls.
-After explaining some stuff about the hardware, OS and features, we get another person to come up and grab Reggie's Switch. 'Now's not the time to talk about features, lets talk about the games'.

Middle: 'The Games and Software' - Lasts 30 Minutes
- Games Shown Off -
Mario Switch: Official named 'Super Mario Adventure' and is a spiritual sequel to Super Mario 64. Mario has all his moves from 64 but power ups work like the 3D Land/World Games; you can use them until you get hit, which makes them vanish. Shows off 2-Player co-op support and release date set for April 2017. States support for Amiibos will be present and that a demo featuring two levels will be pre-installed in every Nintendo Switch

Mario Kart 8 - Switch Edition: Nintendo shows off a trailer where the Mario crew races across various tracks new, old and original to this Switch release. New Characters will include vets like Diddy Kong and King Boo (cut from later Mario Kart's), new karts & parts, 16 new tracks, battle mode based off the Mario Kart 64 and a few Nintendo guests. Kirby and Captain Falcon join the roster with special karts of their own. Releasing at launch at the price point of 39.99$

Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild: Nintendo announces that this will hit the Switch Day-One and a special Zelda-themed Switch bundle will be shown off. Not much needs to be said, as I feel we saw a ton about this game already, so we know what it will be like.

Smash Brothers - Switch Edition: More or less being the 'Game of the Year Edition' of Smash 4, it will contain all the DLC from the Wii U/3DS version, many 3DS stages remastered for the Switch version, a modified version of Smash Run will be present and two new characters will be added to the roster (Vet: Ice Climbers / Newcomer: Inking). Releasing May 2017 but a special demo containing two stages and ten fighters will release on the Nintendo E-Shop day-and-date of the Switch launch.

Splatoon - Switch Edition: Nintendo details changes/additions from the Wii U release at length and states this will join Zelda as the 'major' launch games for the Switch. All game modes, stages, modes and even the single player returns from the Wii U version. New single player campaign will be added and new gear/weapons will be featured as well.

Pikmin 4: Nintendo announces that Pikmin 4 is releasing for the Nintendo Switch for the platforms Summer 2017 line-up (August 2017). Collection of the three Pikmin games releases in June 2017 to have the entire series in one spot.

Retro Studios Project: Hidden Project that we don't know about, Nintendo will announce this for the Nintendo Switch and will be the big Fall 2017 game for the system. New take on classic IP, or new IP alike, it will likely impress many.

F-Zero XS: New game co-developed by SEGA and Nintendo, F-Zero makes an explosive comeback! Remastering tracks from GX and including over 20 new ones with a new story mode, F-Zero fans will be happy to see this iconic series come back. Likely another Fall 2017 title and will join Retro's Switch Project.

Showcase Original IP Coming Out At Launch: Developed by the Wii Sports/WarioWare team, the game will release at the system's launch. Not sure what this will be, but I see this being the causal gamer-friendly game for the system.

Virtual Console: Nintendo talks about the VC platform and announces that GameCube games are coming to the Switch! The launch line up for the service will include games like Melee, Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion. SEGA (Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Billy Hatcher), Capcom (Viewtiful Joe, Mega Man X Command Mission) and Bandai-Namco (Pac-Man Wold 2, Tales of Symphonia) announce support. All VC games from the Wii U supported on Switch, so you can only pay a small upgrade fee (20-40 cents).

Mother 3 Localization: Nintendo shows off this when first talking about VC platform and states that due to high fan demand, Nintendo will launch Mother 3 as a Switch VC exclusive for 19.99$ on June 2017.

Ending: Third Party Support (20 Minutes)

-SEGA: Sonic Mania confirmed for Switch release alongside other platforms. Sonic Project 2017 will release day-and-date with other versions and will match them visually. First official gameplay of the project will be running on Switch and shown off at Presentation.

-Capcom: Various Ports of HD collections and projects announce to be coming to Switch; Resident Evil's 4-6, DMC 4 Special Edition and Mega Man Legacy Collection confirmed for Switch Q2. Also releases Resident Evil VII for system launch. Promises support for other releases on Switch.

-Bandai-Namco: Tales of Berseria announced for Switch release at launch and promises future releases come out on Switch.

-Bethesdia: PREY announced for Switch release and Skyrim will release on Switch at launch.

-EA: Battlefront Complete Edition exclusive to Switch for six months. Releases at 39.99$ and has all DLC/modes/content from other versions. Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 will release at Switch launch with all modes/content.

-Ubisoft: Rayman Legends Port announced and will support entire Amiibo line to get costumes for Rayman & Friends. Releases May 2017. Beyond Good & Evil 2 teaser shown off and promise of gameplay trailer for E3 2017 stated. Ubisoft also announces that versions for upcoming games like South Park, Assassins Creed, and ports for released games (Steep, The Crew, etc) are coming soon. Just Dance 2017 hits Switch at launch as will Rabbids Mushroom Invasion (getting gameplay trailer with Grand Kirkhope music playing).

-Indies: Various indie projects coming to the Switch and announce ports. Major studios include Inti-Crates for Bloodstained and Playtonic with Yooka-Laylee coming out promising Switch ports.

Nintendo closes event saying you can pre-order the Switch and the price will be 250$ for the 32GB version and 300$ for the 128$ GB version containing two VC games, a 10$ E-Shop voucher and extra My Nintendo Points.

I think the Switch is a cool idea. However, I dont think the market is sold and after the Wii U it makes perfect sense for third parties to show intense scepticism.

The Switch is way too close to launch for the third party support talked about so far to be mostly mock ups.

There's an assumption that because so many 3rd parties abandoned the Wii U after being talked about at E3 2011 the same will happen for the Switch. However, that happened over a nearly 2 year period, the time between the Switch reveal and March is only slightly more than 6 months.

Nintendo has been talking to publishers about the Switch for a long time now. So those 3rd parties shown on that image at the reveal weren't put on there by Nintendo as some desperate attempt to coerce 3rd parties onto the device.

I just think that to say Nintendo is so desperate and to imply that the third party games can be counted on one hand is to ignore all the evidence in favour of personal cynicism. Yes, it won't have every 3rd party, but it will not be another Wii U, especially not at launch.

So many people predicting March 17th. Y'all do realize that Nintendo doesn't launch new systems on Fridays and only releases on Sundays, right? That's why I picked the 19th.

We're at Episode 13 already?

...crap. I knew something looked funky.

I wonder if we'll see Xenoblade HD and The Last Story HD (and maybe even Pandora's Tower HD) as a physical collection for $50, or seperately digitally for $20 each, at or near launch. Xenoblade Chronicles X near the end of the year.

1) No specs, no discussion of power at all
2) Big focus on Zelda
3) Official Announcement of MK8 and Splatoon ports, both framed like they're not ports (but they are)
4) Tiny bit more of Mario
5) Beyond Good and Evil 2 is the only third party game officially announced. No Skyrim.
6) List of partners shown with lots of logos of people who have expressed interest
7) Price is a bit too high
8) IR pointer is confirmed

It depresses me how realistic this is

I hope that with the Wii U ports Tokyo Mirage Sessions somehow makes it onto the Switch. Unlikely though given its sales figures, although it did better in the west somehow haha, and would probably do better with the 3ds audience which will naturally progress to the Switch.

And in third party announcements Square Enix finally announces The World Begins With You and I die happily

Or Rune factory 5 gets confirmed because the producer says he has multiple projects in development this year

But these are too niche so will be revealed during a direct at a later date

You forgot the video with various third party developers talking about how cool the system is without announcing any actual games for it.

I'm counting on you, Ken Levine.

-Zelda will be a launch title
-The new Mario game will be a Summer title
-Pikmin 4 will be announced for a September or October release
And eventually delayed into next year
-Retro's game will not be shown (And I'll be extremely disappointed)
-Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Smash Bros. ports will be shown with release dates throughout the year and possibly into next
-The Mario/Rabbids RPG will be a launch title (Ubisoft loves to be there at launch)
-Third party games will make a decent showing but nothing mindblowing
-There will be no third party EXCLUSIVE games (unless you consider the Mario/Rabbids one
-A new AA IP from Nintendo as a pack in game, something cool but not mindblowing
-Price will be 250$ for basic model, 299$ for bundle including the new IP and Splatoon port.

The show will last 40 minutes.

There will be zero mention of specs.
Price will be high (as in $250+)
1080p will be said at least 17 times
There will be no mention of Minecraft
Talking heads video saying how creative Nintendo are with their ideas. No actual games from those people though.
15 minutes spent on Just Dance.

This isn't a safe bet at all. Being super pessimistic isn't the same as being realistic

Umm it pretty much is with Nintendo.

After the presentation a lot of people will call it Nintendo's return to glory, and a lot of other people will declare it the final nail in Nintendo's coffin.

That's the only thing about it I feel 100% certain of.

Wouldn't be surprised.

The only thing I'd feel safe on betting is that the show's at least 45 minutes, and even then I'm not sure. I'd rather it being longer, but otherwise I'll let myself go in with few expectations.

Besides Zelda showing up, of course.

1-2 hour conference

Mario (summer 2017)
Splatoon (launch)

Smash 4 (includes all 3DS/Wii U content, GCN adapter compatibility, and Cloud/Bayonetta/Corrin Amiibo release date)
Gamecube VC/VC in general
