NX Gamer: Rise of the Tomb Raider: Patch 1.06 Input lag tested across patches PS4 X1

Interesting. I might've missed it but how exactly did you measure the input lag? And did you take into account that different input configurations (port, resolution, colour format) can and will have an impact on input lag.

This table is rather surprising after all the input lag talk on consoles, especially the XB1 version.

I'd like to see more input lag analysis on top of the graphical work.

Was the Xbox One version higher at one point?

Also, interesting tidbit on controller latency. Is there a measurable difference between the controller S and the standard Xbox One controllers? I know they said they improved the internals on that controller; allowing it to be used at at greater distances and such.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Whelp ... this clears up 2 things.

1.06 'fixed' input lag, it's now better than 1.04 on average.. However, surprisingly, outside of the 60 FPS mode, it's overall higher than XB1.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
This is very strange. The current high quality 1080p mode on Pro has much less input lag than the current XB1 version for me.

I just tested them running at the same time here, and the XB1 is very noticeably sluggish compared to the PS4.

Using wireless controllers on both.

What is the deal with that?

What is the Xbox One original/non-S?

doesn't this go against the other reports of the xbone version never getting this issue fixed? or did DF just never re-test it?

Might have to differentiate between standard PS4 controllers and PS4 Pro models; the old ones connect via Bluetooth no matter how you hook it up.

Yep of course. The Slim comes with the new controller too btw.

Disagree...The vast majority of players use wireless, and the tests would be pretty much a useless waste of time

It removes a variable (interference) from the equation. I use wireless most of the time myself but if we're testing input lag I want the most accurate reading.

Digital Foundry never tested it at all. They just said they felt it

Then they said it felt better on PS4

I always said i never understood the input lag talk with the Xbox version since the release.
I never noticed it and i am pretty sensitive about it in games.

did the patch or the 'S' model help to get XB lag lower? I played the DLC recently and it felt much better then when I played the game at launch. played the DLC on S

That sounds high. I tried Killzone 2 on PSnow recently, wonder how that compares.

Its the combined effect of input lag and large deadzone that made the pre-patched version pain in the ass to play. It still has the lag but the deadzone is nearly gone.

A lonely thread indeed! Thanks for sharing it, hopefully this is something people will be interested in as I work through more titles and info.

You're welcome :)

I'm most definitely interested in said articles.

Not really, I'm sure quite a few of us played RotTR on the original Xbox One. These findings are from the Xbox One S and NX Gamer speculates that the Xbox One controller has slightly less latency than what we've seen on the Dualshock 4.

Yeah it's the same for me. Maybe the input lag is different between XB and XBS.

He honestly should've tested it on the original XB1 and with an original XB1 controller as well, because now it's just speculation nothing more. I doubt that there'll be a difference in controller latency between the XB1 (controller) and XB1 S (controller).

Any controller latency differences between PS4 and XB1 were the same one year ago when the game first released on XB1.

I think future input lag tests should use wired controllers.
Standard PS4 controllers wired will be the same as it is wireless isn't it since it still communicates over Bluetooth when wired.

But the new v2 PS4 Controllers have a wired communication mode so it does it through USB instead of Bluetooth when wired which should reduce abit of input lag

I hate to pull the anecdote card but this just doesn't align with my feel. I have the PC (WinStore), PS4, and XB1 versions. And I've played the 1st patched version of the 360 version.

Out of those the XB1 build is clearly having issues. To the point that even somebody without sensitivity would notice it. The gifs in other threads show it clearly. Perhaps it's just a deadzone issue, but I'm not confident NX gamer gets this better than the pros at DF.
