Nintendo Switch Discussion Thread (Question of the Day, Countdown, etc)

Oh okay. I misunderstood what people meant then. Skimming thread this afternoon. Did it ever release for PS4 or 3DS? It did release for the WIi U in 2013, but looks like it never left Japan. Never played a DQ game, but heard good things. That announcement is from Aug 2016. I think they are just porting the game to different systems as well as different regions in hopes of more revenue and getting a bigger reach for the brand.

I misunderstood. Hopes of more revenue or better brand reach?

.

DQX is an MMO, with monthly fees. I don't see that working out.

Or that Nintendo will sit on 3D Mario until the Holidays?

Let me just say for one last time that I told you this stuff a long time ago but you didn't believe me. Ok, then. I'm done being petty.
For now.
That's just her speculating. It's still possible, but let's wait for any of the leakers to say something from their sources or for Nintendo to announce it before we're even remotely sure.

Why's that? I know it has never left JP. It was released on the Wii originally then ported to Wii U and Windows. Then later to iOS, Android, and N3DS. They have already said they are porting it to PS4 and Switch. It would work on PS4, but Switch we don't know what online will be like. It is possible Nintendo finally got it right.

Nintendo knows the trust it has from its fans is their most valuable asset next to their franchises. This trust is why Nintendo game prices remain high throughout years. In this volatile business trust is your best weapon against new trends and fundamental changes you can not foresee.

MS doesn't care. They killed off the OG Xbox like it was nothing for the 360 to succeed and they would do it again no question.

Yup, Nintendo was still putting out software long after the writing was on the wall.

Since we haven't heard any rumors about an improved online multiplayer service can we assume Nintendo failed us on that front?

I hope they are going to improve it and have online support for their games with multiplayer/coop modes.

You can't assume anything but generally the multiplayer/matchmaking parts of NN were fine as-is. It's the social features and account management that have been lacking.

EDIT:

Wut? DQX won't be using PSN. It's an MMO.

Anyone else hoping that Nintendo will save Scalebound?

No. Scalebound did not look like a good game. Nintendo needs to be smarter with their money than that.

I do really hope they partner with more Platinum games, but not all Platinum games are equal.

Dragon Quest isn't a huge seller in the western world like it is in Japan. I don't see it working as an MMO here as it currently is. The series sells to a niche group of people, a subset of which would be interested in paying monthly fees.

Please! Please! I am so hyped!!! Show us Bayo 3 CG intro or Monster Hunter Switch at least if not that; Mario Switch or BOTW. Hunghhhh, someome control my hype please!!

Only thing about the Gamespot image is that there aren't any other third parties except for Dragon Quest, Skyrim and NBA. Even Wii U had more third parties at launch than that.

That's why I think Mario and Zelda will be on launch day together, along with Splatoon, Rabbids and XCX. There won't be many third party titles at launch, only stuff like Skyrim, NBA, FIFA and Madden. There will be couple of more after the launch day but I don't expect more on day 1. Nintendo needs all big names they can find on launch day to make the big splash they wanted.

I see your point now. That makes sense. Perhaps, Nintendo convinced them? Not sure the relations between N and SE.
I believe things can happen now more easily in the gaming industry after the last few years of announcements.

Chill, dude. The Switch Presentation is a few days away.

Also, any relation to OrbitalBeard Sr.? Younger sibling, perhaps?

Nintendo published almost every DQ games (on Nintendo consoles ofc) we've got in the west, in a desperate effort to make the brand huge. It worked with DQIX, as it's the best selling game in the serie, and I'm sure they will try again with DQXI.

DQX, on the other hand, will probably never get this attention.

It's not outside the realm of possibility that it's a launch title for the Switch in Japan.

I think it's pretty far outside of that. They've barely even shown anything on the game yet. Aside from that, there's no way in hell Square would launch X and XI on the same day. One of X's biggest problems is that the DQ brand isn't that big outside of Japan. So, Square's idea to fix that is to launch it alongside a brand new single player DQ?

That is certainly true. I'd love to see them give it a try, but I very much doubt it.

Oh okay. Then they are on good terms for sure then. Oh wow, really? That's good to hear for both of them. I hope it works again for them with DQ XI.

Due to it being a MMO and never been outside of JP?

Nintendo won't publish a multiplatform game though and the PS4 version will be the lead platform for the west.
Or the only one.

Thanks. Verifies what the manager told me about Thursday night. :)

So after the store closes they post a sign on the door telling people how many pre-orders will be available when the store opens Friday? So that people don't line up unnecessarily?

Due to it being a MMO of an unpopular franchise in the west, and in a market already occupied by FFXIV (by the same publisher).

Wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo ends up publishing the Switch version (which is 100% coming to the west), while Square Enix publish the PS4 version.

I'll doubt Hideki Kamiya would want to work with Microsoft anymore. Would be good news for NIntendo to work with Kamiya again.

If Nintendo is "Saving" any failed Microsoft IP... The World needs Sunset Overdrive 2 made with Nintendo's new physics engine.

Well to be fair they announced the NX itself a long freaking time before we ever knew what the hell it was going to be.

Yeah, for an enthusiast like any GAF browser it was a really, really long wait and I'm just glad that the final stretch isn't long at all.

They pretty much had to since the Wii U was having problems. It was more of a "We're working on a new system." Than a real announcement.

It was actually "We're not going mobile exclusive!". It was in the DeNA press conference.

When's the last time Square Enix published a Dragon Quest game on a Nintendo console ?
Nintendo is used to take over Square Enix's games.

Those have all been exclusives.
