Well deserved, I loved that the chance they took with this IP paid off.

Hats off GG, you made a great game!

It's funny that the top 3 most exciting titles from Sony's first party in the last 5 years have been all new IPs:

The Last of Us
Bloodborne
Horizon

The pressure on Days Gone is enormous for a perfect 4/4 roll out.

I wonder if Killzone didn't critically bomb on PS4, would we still have this game?

Bloodborne isn't first party but if we're listing it, don't forget Until Dawn. Wonderful game.

This started preproduction after KZ3 shipped. They talked about working on a new IP long before Shadow Fall was even announced.

Unique and Phenomenal open world. And a technical achievement. And furthermore, an Open-world RPG title with great gameplay mechanics since we don't see those often.

The load times are inexplicably stupid fast, graphics are unquestionably the best on a video game system to date AND with no framerate drops with giant robots going ham and ganging up on you wrecking havok amongts the world.

Guerilla single-handely schooled the entire video game industry with this title.

And its their first attempt at it.

I can not wait to see whats next for them. All eyes are on them now.

This is unheard of right? Usually a studio builds up to this over many years, over many games. GG just dropped this like it was nothing.

Not just Day's Gone team, but God of War team is making an "open-linear" game, so probably going to be something akin to Uncharted 4 or Tomb Raider in size. I think Insomniac said Spider-man will be open world as well, and Death Stranding of course. Lots of big shoes to fulfill. And you know what, TLOU2 as well, ND has competition in house now not only in world creation but art, graphical excellence as well. Honestly though, Sony Japan please make Blood Borne 2 with Horizon's engine or at least ask GG to make it run at a rock solid 30 fps.

Only played for 15 hours but already feel it's the best new ip since TLoU. Well deserved, hopefully it keeps selling. GG need to keep releasing updates and new content, which they're not normally very good at.

It's a blessed quarter!

For sure!

Over the last month I've been playing...

Gravity Rush 2
Yakuza 0
Breath of the Wild
Horizon Zero Dawn

and soon

Mass Effect Andromeda
Ghost Recon Wildlands
Nier Automata

Absolutely insane. Shame people end up arguing over the differences between these diverse array of games, though I can understand people wanting to draw comparisons.

Uncharted 4. I don't know about Splatoon numbers.

Uncharted 4 should be the best selling console exclusive this gen. Splatoon I think still holds the title for console exclusive new IP this gen.

Just look it up, Uncharted has 8.7 while Mario Kart has 8.3 (both 2016). So yeah, I was wrong on the numbers.

But my overall point still stands. Even if Switch sales turn out to be not so great, Zelda can still outsell Horizon.

Man, its super unprecedented. Everybody was expecting a weak delivery in story and pace plus sub-par delivery in its open world concept.

They over-delivered in everything except on the fact that the story ends several hours too short.

Probably the first developer in history to break the mold on this level. I'm super impressed.

Although they are not top tier developers yet (imo), Horizon is their "Uncharted 2" that catapulted their dev status way above of like 98% of developers right now.

The only thing they need to do is to keep this quality of work dead consistent and they will get there faster than Fedex.

Hey solid did horizon beat tlou's debut numbers on ps3?

It's hard to tell because they decided to compare Horizon's numbers to other PS4 games rather than Sony published games in general. So, what we know is that TLoU's numbers were between 84-116k. And this report states that Horizon outsold No Man's Sky but was below Uncharted 4. NMS sold between 103-110k and Uncharted for sold 192k. So, if it didn't outsell TLoU's opening then it's certainly close.

What if this is their 'Uncharted' and Horizon 2 will be their 'Uncharted 2'
As much as I adore the Uncharted franchise, the first game's reception is hardly comparable to that of Horizon's - especially given the scope of the latter. I feel like it's more of Guerilla's Uncharted 2, and it's sequel might end up being their TLOU.

I'm so glad they're being rewarded for ditching the KZ franchise. A developer that talented should not be making generic FPS games.

Game is great, and even pushed me to get a 4K TV. What a good decision.

Nice, I imagine word of mouth will be very kind to this game too.

Yuuuup.

Just from my little microcosm of a world I have "sold" 6 people on it. 3 close friends and 3 acquantances via sharing screens on Facebook.

Ubisoft is sweating bullets right now.
Who is going to buy their bland formulaic open world games after they played Horizon(and Zelda for that matter)?

I really hope these two games will inspire more developers to get out of their comfort zones when it comes to open world design and open world gameplay design.

Open world fatigue is not a thing, but bad open world fatigue is a thing.

I was forcing my way through The Witcher 3 before this (and I had ROTTR, FC4, and Watch Dogs 1/2 on my back burner, LOL)... no clue how I'm gonna pick that game up now. Horizon ZD just shits all over it (not to say it is a bad game... but my god IMO Horizon crushes it).

Yeah definitely, Uncharted was a modest hit.

I thought I wouldnt be interested in it but one day decided to buy a Greatest Hits version of it. What a fantastic game.

A few months later Uncharted 2 was released and god, that game just blew me away and I was sad when I got to the end, I wanted more.

Horizon impressed me as much as Uncharted 2, and you have to give Guerilla props for that.

I never understood why people thought that Zelda would outsell Horizon. Horizon is for the established PS4 whereas Zelda is for a system no one bought and a system no one has had the opportunity to buy yet.

Glad to see a new IP performing like this.

Aloy ate Lara's lunch.

Like I said in a few comments up... my backlog after this game (I just had to play at launch) was: The Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Far Cry 4, and Watch Dogs 1/2.

No fucking idea how I'm gonna force myself through those. I was dying of boredom at TW3 about 5 hours in.

This game does everything TW3 and Tomb Raider wanted to do and does it 10x better, IMO.

Glad to see a new IP performing like this.

A) Hating on Guerrilla Games because Shadow Fall

B) Hating on anything because it's not Nintendo/Zelda

C) Lacking in basic mathematics

D) Delusional

E) All of the above

Killzone had a very interesting lore and backstory, great atmospheric visual and gunplay. They just chose the worst way to tell their story. Killzone 1-3 had all been focused on the foot soldiers perspective. You're basically a lone squad just doing your part in a mission. The story felt small scale.

They should have structure their campaign like in Call of Duty where you jump around from a few different characters and tell a more bigger picture of the story.

Lifetime is debatable. Zelda is not as big a franchise as Mario Kart, sales-wise. Horizon with some decent legs can easily reach 6+million. Add bundles and you are comfortably at 8 million. Best selling Zelda game to date did a bit under 8 million.

Awesome, it seems like a fantastic game.
I've not gotten it yet but I'll definitely be buying it sometime this year & am as sure as I can be that I'll love it

Also not surprised it outsold Zelda, I might be wrong but I get the impression generally Zelda just isn't that big a deal here in the UK

The success of games like Watch Dogs, Destiny, Shadow of Mordor, Rocket League, The Division, Overwatch, For Honor and Horizon makes me feel as if the market is significantly more hungry for new IPs than a lot of the major publishers realize.

Yep, I think they are just weary of the risk making them. It can turn out great like Horizon but there is always that possibility that it underperforms or even bombs and that could burn the whole house down.

I would still go for it if it was up to me though. Be risky and get something new going.

Incredible game, congrats to GG for creating a master piece.

I confess my main gaming love lies on PC but that has never stopped me enjoying a decent console game. However I always "knew" it was a console game and often imagined what it would be like on PC with all the bells and whistles a high end gaming PC can deliver. A good example is The Last Of Us.

I'm happy to say this is not the case with Horizon. The game looks and plays incredible on the Pro. The visuals are so detailed and sharp it may as well be a PC game.

This is the first time ever imo the gap between PC and console has disappeared, Horizon doesn't have or need bullshots, what you see is what you get and it's truly stunning.

I think the major takeaway from Horizon is to make sure a game, particularly a new IP, is given the time it needs to be something truly special. It's very rare for a new IP to be so damn good on a first entry.

I think that is the key as well. Horizon was in the works since 2010. I think there are a few third party that could afford to take time off like that and deliver something great.
