Persona 5's requirement players must agree to before playing is absolute nonsense

You're objecting to agreeing that the game is a work of fiction? Really?

It suggests that no likeness is is represented from the real world with intentionality. How can the player agree to that without playing the game.

It's a stupid question to ask the player. I don't resent the game for it, but it's dumb, whichever way you spin it.

Eh - I thought it was fun. Get a sense of humor, OP.

Legally speaking, a disclaimer itself is more than enough to cover their bases, so I'd be very surprised if there was any real legal intent here. Imagine if Atlus were sued for adopting another person's likeness without permission, and their defense in court was "BUT THE PLAYERS EVEN AGREED IT WAS FICTION!" It's meaningless and unnecessary in a legal sense. Certainly not binding, and not meant to be anything more than a bit of meta-fun in line with the themes of the Persona universe.

This is America, dammit, and if I want to believe that the anime heart burglary game is real, then that's my right!! The Constitution, people! Read it! I ain't bowin' down to no foreign Atlus corporation!

By pressing yes?

This "problem" baffles me.

I like to feel that they put the agreement in there to discourage people who wish anime was real from their desires. >_>

Reminds me of the Bioshock Infinite outrage story about forced baptism.

It's a work of fiction. You are not the one agreeing. You are supposed to feel like the game is addressing you.

Breaking the fourth wall is not you being forced to accept that "Your game data can be erased at any time" or whatever.

How do you get past the EULA when you install software?

Almost seems like it's for flavor, being that it's Igor's voice and all.

Let's keep the Persona 5 complaining on the stuff that matters, like the share features.

Hardly flavor text if the game kicks you back to the title screen for not agreeing. I'd say that's stuff that matters.

Seems like Atlus sure is fizzling away a lot of good will they've earned over the years on a completely pointless endeavor.

lol this thread!

I am glad the OP, like me, has realized that Persona is real. There are phantom thieves, right now, who are fighting to steal the hearts of all of the shitty adults out there. We must believe in them, and OP is right to place his faith in them as real heroes. Persona exists. The Phantom Thieves exist. Talking cats exist.

This is a very important issue. I did not accept the agreement the first time, just to see what would happen. It was distressing to read the same lines again a few seconds later and then accept .

Lol 😂

I chose no to at first to see what it does and I was laughing at what the game did.

Well done Atlus, well done.

wait what? but it is a work of fiction, why would you disagree with that?

edit:

I hope someone keeps track of if this guy plays the game because seriously, if he has that much of a problem with the disclaimer he damn better well stick to his guns and not play the game

Just wanted to get a post into the dumbest thread of the year, thus far.

I totally said no when prompted because it's pretty clearly a bit, and was delighted to see it dump you back to the menu. Funny stuff.
