Blade Runner 2049 Official Trailer

obviously very difficult to tell from a short trailer but i thought the whole look of the film looked very cheap. a bit like Ghost in the Shell. visually nice its own right but rather bland looking compared to the grimy physicality of the original.

at this point my only fear is that the story will go too great a length to explain itself and be more 'stuffed' than it needs to be. i wouldnt fault the movie for that i guess--thats likely what studio executives demand from a follow up to a niche film like blade runner

Thanks, new wallpaper get! Looks damn good, now to watch it over and over

I'm sure there will be grime. The work on the visuals isn't done. And they're not showing everything so far.

Hope so, because that's my only nitpick so far, needs to look dirtier

it all makes sense now

I want it to be good, but as a mega fan of the first movie, I can't help but feel nervous. I really don't want this to be another Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The legacy of Blade Runner is practically sacred by this point, but a new film could tarnish that. I still long for the days where I could watch the final shot of Last Crusade - Indy, his father, Marcus and Sallah riding off into the literal sunset - and think "wow, what a perfect ending to the saga."

For a start, I don't feel like they've visually nailed the vibe/ambiance of the first movie. But with so many years between the two films, I guess that wouldn't have been possible anyway. And I'm not too keen on Ryan Gosling in general. Him being a replicant wouldn't pose much of an acting stretch from his usual dead-eyed, stoic performances in other films.

Ah well, fingers crossed. Would've been fucking amazing if we got another Vangelis score at least.

Looks like it's VERY action packed this time, with a LOT of characters. I hope it doesn't overdo it. The simplicity of Blade Runner is a huge part of why it's one of my favorite movies of all time.

It looks fantastic though.

This movie looks incredible. Not sure how I feel about Harrison Ford being in this considering the theories for Blade Runner.

Exactly what I expected. Great atmosphere, music, visuals, Denis+Ryan. Half a year to go... the wait will be excruciating.

Hmm. Weird. I'm getting black bars regardless of which viewing mode I'm using.

I wonder why it's not working for me...

Good to know though... I should probably know that considering I work in video and am regularly posting things to Youtube... Heh.

EDIT: Doh, nevermind. I see what you mean about the preview scrubber. I somehow took that to mean that the interface would adjust to remove the black bars. Been a long day.

You are using old youtube design. There is no black bars in cinema mode on new one.

I guess I didn't realize that the screenplay was written by Hampton Fancher, who wrote the original film, and Michael Green, who is the co-executive producer and a writer on American Gods with Bryan Fuller.

We may be in better hands here than we thought.

Michael Green also wrote Logan, and he was the creator of the awesome TV show Kings

The visuals certainly look really good, but something feels a little off to me. I'm not sure how to put it, but it's like the movie looks a bit too clean (if that makes any sense). It put me off the most, when Gosling's character entered the casino(?). It didn't look abandoned at all and not dirty either, considering the environment outside. Really weird. It doesn't really evoke a noir feeling for me.

It could be lazy production design. Or things are really supposed to be clean and empty.

That's my issue too - everything looks a bit too clean and sterile for my liking. There was a grit to the first movie's cyberpunk world that is lacking in that trailer.

You'd better not fuck this up Warner Bros. Bladerunner is literally my childhood and my number one movie. I'm already considering the fact that making a sequel is a big mistake and you better prove me wrong. If you pump out some pg13 bullshit with no depth, shitty music choices, a cliched plot and all of the requirements for a sellout blockbuster fuckfest

lol

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Visually stunning but Gosling looks like he's playing a replicant with his complete lack of emotional expression... Maybe he is actually playing a replicant?

People said the same thing about Ford in the first movie.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Visually stunning and well shot, didn't really do much for me otherwise and I love the first film.

I am in! Day 1 when this comes to theaters!

Glad I was able to track down a copy of the first on blu-ray at a local pawn shop too!

Yo get Leto out of this
? He's an excellent actor. Just because he had a popular role with shit writing all of a sudden cast him out? He's always called Blade Runner one of his favorite movies so Im proud of him for landing this.

It kinda does with the holograms and flashy billboards.
Yeah, kinda hard for cyberpunk movies to not look similar when they're going full on cyberpunk.

Not sure why that person thinks it's a bad thing when Ghost in the Shell was so beautiful, though.

Yeah, I'm glad Leto is in this. Think he has a good presence on screen in the right role. Looks good here.

MY MAN

Leto is a great actor who does goofy shit onset but that doesn't make him a bad actor.

Looks promising and the style consistent. That said it doesn't engage me as much as the style Scott employed on the first: in particular the clean look vs the hyper gritty look of the original with rubbish and trash everywhere.

Feels like a different take but maybe that's best vs aping someone else's approach.

They're pushing action of course but I hope the film is closer to the short bursts of gritty violence of the original than out and out action scenes.

This doesn't look anything like what I was expecting. The cinematography in some of the dialogue scenes looked kind of bland, I'm honestly shocked at how minimalist they went with everything. It looks nothing like the original, and the vibe of the trailer was that of an action movie, not a noire.

I still have faith because of Deakins and Villenueve but this isn't the best first impression ever, though that's probably because I set my expectations too high to begin with.

Looks almost exactly what I wanted from a Blade Runner sequel not directed by a 1980s Ridley Scott. Not a copy or mimicry, something different yet intriguing all the same.

It kinda does with the holograms and flashy billboards. None of it really matter since they all rip from OG Blade Runner.

That's really the only similarity I'm seeing here. It pains me because I love the 95 anime movie and its sequel - they are some of my favourite movies even - but live action Ghost in the Shell was incredibly cheap looking.
Almost on the same level as those Resident Evil movies.

I know it's not a populair thing to say as most people seem to like the way that movie looked at least, but I really really don't.

I'm actually really glad that this seems to be very much its own thing instead of trying to replicate (heh) the first movie.

If it helps:
Denis is a better film maker than Scott.
Deakins is the best cinematographer out there.
Johansson did a great job in Sicario.

CBM's are the be all and end all of movies for a lot of people on this site it seems. The amount of great actors you see cast off because they put in a bad performance in a CBM due to turgid direction on this site is crazy.

Perhaps its a good thing Ridley did not direct this.

Fo rhtos ewho have doubts, I wonder what you would have thought about the original if it cam out today.
