I can't believe how good this looks.

I don't know why but Gosling's K driving a Peugeot spinner made me chuckle. I guess because I don't see too many of the brand here in the US. lol

The visuals certainly look really good, but something feels a little off to me. I'm not sure how to put it, but it's like the movie looks a bit too clean (if that makes any sense). It put me off the most, when Gosling's character entered the casino(?). It didn't look abandoned at all and not dirty either, considering the environment outside. Really weird. It doesn't really evoke a noir feeling for me.

I feel this. Personally it feels like that thing that analog media had that new things don't, that kind of roughness and personality that comes from not being able to simulate something perfectly.

Looks p good tho

I have never been more excited for a film in my life like I am with 2049. This trailer truly shows off Denis's unique master craftwork.

I think I'm happy enough with this trailer that I don't need to watch anymore clips or trailers that might come out before release.

Might rewatch Sicario again though.

I'm happy enough with this post that I don't need to watch anymore reactons to clips or trailers that might come before release!

I'm sure there will be grime. The work on the visuals isn't done. And they're not showing everything so far.

Maybe it's also because they're shooting digitally? Barely a speck of film grain.

It really does look very different from the original. I guess we're just gonna have to deal. It looks great in its own right.

I'm sure it's both of these things coming together. (Probably) unfinished visuals and being shot digitally, making it look really clean.

I'm still very much looking forward to the movie, so it's not a huge issue for me. But the atmosphere definitely takes a hit, which is a shame. I just love the atmosphere and the feeling of the first movie.

Here's two png captures I made from prores version of the trailer (it's still 1080p footage, which means that the movie is likely not being mastered in 4K). Looks nice and uncompressed, good wallpaper material.

where do you get prores uploads?

it's missing a lot of the texture of the original film. from backgrounds dotted in tower lights down to the intricate tilling.

Why are these companies still uploading 16:9 videos with black bars...

Meh. Looks decent, nothing more. Only reinforces how young Ridley was a fucking genius.

The best thing is the replication of Vangelis melodies. Shamefully it seems that Jóhannsson crude style quickly shuts it down (if it's his).

Deakins the god and his trademark silhouettes :D

I sort of get what people are saying about it looking too clean, but in the end it all comes down to the atmosphere, something that is hard to convey in a trailer like this.

Atmosphere is the one thing you can be sure of with this team. I'm not worried about this in the slightest.

Worst case scenario for me is we get a gorgeous, intimate, and immersive Blade Runner movie. It's not going to feel like the first movie because it's not and I'm glad they're not completely aping the style of the first movie. The world has obviously changed in some major ways.

I was already hyped when this was announced. Now this and Kingsmen 2 are probably my most anticipated films of the year. It looks gorgeous and I hope the soundtrack is still up to par.

Day one.

This looks AMAZING. I already took time off of work for this movie, lol.

It does. You can upload a video with any aspect ratio and it will automatically acknowledge that it's blank space. That way it'll be fullscreen on ultrawide monitors, etc.

This is an example. Look at the preview scrubber, there's no black bars.

Hmm. Weird. I'm getting black bars regardless of which viewing mode I'm using.

I wonder why it's not working for me...

Good to know though... I should probably know that considering I work in video and am regularly posting things to Youtube... Heh.

EDIT: Doh, nevermind. I see what you mean about the preview scrubber. I somehow took that to mean that the interface would adjust to remove the black bars. Been a long day.

That doesn't mean it's Johannsson's score you're hearing. It's just as likely someone at a trailer house/production company worked up a composition based on Vangelis' work.

Definitely possible, because the music I wrote and pitched for this trailer had a little bit of the Blade Runner Main Title music in it at the very end. It is possible though that they used some of the original score for the slower first half of the trailer, then used library music for the more action packed 2nd half, since there's in all likelihood nothing that heavy and dramatic in the OST.

This movie looks sick - and that's coming from someone who watched the original only a few months ago and wasn't too crazy about it.

It doesn't crop in. You need an ultrawide monitor. If you're on 16:9 YouTube will automatically add the bars. Once again check the scrubber to see what I mean. On the BR video the tiny preview shows the black bars but the Star Trek vid does not.

Visually stunning but Gosling looks like he's playing a replicant with his complete lack of emotional expression... Maybe he is actually playing a replicant?

I hope that somehow, the release of that movie will prompt someone to release a remaster of the p&c game. I always wanted to play it.
