Is traveling to Japan dangerous due to radiation?

Poe's law, I have no idea if OP is real or not :(

Otherwise they are incredibly stupid beyond belief.

Sometimes I'm not sure, but I will go with the bolded.

*Is currently looking at another trip to Tokyo soon*

edit:

I wanted to warn other people thinking of traveling to Japan because this isn't something people usually consider when planning their trip. I didn't even think about this til my friend mentioned it.

Also was kind of hoping I could be convinced otherwise but I know I'm not gonna change my mind anyways.

Yeah....you are fucking stupid.

I don't know what's worse. The fact you are 100% not going over a nothing issue. Or the fact you want to go because you want to see a disney park.
Disney sea is legit. Maybe not worth going to Japan just for, but if you're there I definitely recommend it.

This is on the same level as the 'climate change isn't real' and 'vaccinations cause autism' crowd.

You are more likely to get cancer from going to the beach and getting a sunburn then from visiting Japan.

So one single person fed you some hot bullshit and you didn't even bother to research it online before just outright cancelling your plans and writing the whole country off? I worry about people like you, OP..

I spent five months there during the summer last year and had the time of my life, so I can't help but pity you.

So many people telling you that you are wrong but you are still not going to change your mind? And all of this because a single friend of yours mentioned it? What the hell is going on...

Thread is kind of pointless if you don't actually care about the question you are posing in the title. Rolling my eyes hard at you wanting to warn people about complete and utter bullshit you heard from your friend.

Well I actually did do research. Googled "is it safe to travel to japan radiation" and limited the results to last year.

Did you know that Taiwan, China, South Korea still ban food from 5 provinces in Japan?

So yea, it's not nearly as open and shut case as people here would have you believe.

And this post from TripAdvisor (link removed because I don't want to spread potential misinformation) resonated with me.

You are responsible for your family's well-being though. There are folks who feel Japan as a whole is too risky so they don't go. The government, on the other hand, assures you that it's a safe place to go. It's up to you to assess the risk and choose what you believe.

I assess the risk and choose that it's not worth the risk, even if it's 1%.

This thread must be a joke, OP must be laughing behind their monitor right now

OP has a way higher chance of dying due to the plane crashing, or getting hit by a car on the way to the airport than dying to anything radiation based from Japan. As long as you avoid Fukushima you're golden.

As someone who has been living in Tohoku for three years now, I find this thread to be incredibly ignorant and appalling.

Everyone says it's the best Disney park in the world though.

I only found out about this park a few weeks ago after watching an "Abandoned" youtube video from that other thread, about some abandoned amusement park in Japan.

This one: https://youtu.be/98VSj41NCkQ?t=5m29s

Get out with that shit for spreading misinformation about this beautiful country. Get a grip and get out of your bubble. Man what the fuck.

This is one of the dumbest threads I've seen in a while.

"I'm 100% not going now. Just want to hear your thoughts even though I don't care about the overwhelming evidence I'm still not listening and I won't be going."

I have some words I'd call you but I'd rather not get banned.

did you even properly read those articles? over 30 countries and the EU already lifted those bans. strange how only countries that have an economic and/or political rivalry with Japan uphold those bans. but I bet especially China is so very concerned about the food for its people.

It even says in the first article:
The announcement by Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s government that it was considering lifting the import ban from four prefectures last November spurred intense opposition from the Kuomintang Party, which had previously been in favor of the ban’s removal when the party was in power.

“Japanese food products have become a political issue,” a person familiar with Japan-Taiwan relations said.

It's not surprising, but people have no idea how radiation works, huh?

Can you imagine if there was any kind of radioactive incident in America? Even a mild one? Bet your ass people would be like "Y U DEFUND EPA!!!?! Y U DEREGULATE!?!?"

It's worse because the first article specifically states it's political bullshit.

Ok OP I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that this is not a troll.

China, Korea and Taiwan still have unresolved conflict with Japan (understandably), but Japanese consumer protection is one of the toughest globally, allowing ten times less radiation in their food products than for example the EU. These three countries are banning products for political reasons.

And about the second point, ONE TRIPADVISOR post is going to dissuade you? Really? You can get a live map of radiation levels all around Japan but one fucking post is gonna stop you from visiting a wonderful country?
The fucking risk of leaving your house and being run over by a car is probably a thousand times higher than getting any ill effects from radiation in Japan, will you stay indoors for the rest of your life? Will you also never enter a bathtub again? Don't forget that dried herbs are being treated with nuclear radiation to make them last longer. No herbs anymore?
Will you also not go to the doctor for an x-ray? I also sincerely hope that you never enter a plane again because the radiation in there will most definitely kill you.

That seems completely political, passing European standards yet not China's? Having been to China and would much sooner put faith in the Japanese when it comes to food hygiene; their regulations are second to none.

However, I think it's pretty obvious that you're trolling at this point since the unanimous answer you're being given to the question you asked is being totally ignored so I won't waste my contaminated breath.

This thread should be deleted before you give other people Bad ideas, but even if you wanted to travel here... You wouldnt be able to Plan the trip lol stay out, the people here dont need such shitty people in their country. Feel ashamed for your brain

That's pretty much the standard for any Asia related thread om Gaf. It's hilarious how many people don't know a thing about it and yet feel that they do.

You are ignoring every other likely risk and focussing on possibly the smallest risk of them all, perhaps even nonexistent. And you're backing up your own paranoia with some selective Googling. What you are doing is demonstrating the anti-vax mentality.

Best not come to Europe either as we're still glowing from Chernobyl.

What is even the point in making a thread like this? To rustle some jimmies? You even said it yourself that youre not gonna be convinced otherwise.
