That's good news. I didn't think they would seeing how DiRT Rally didn't have it, but I was waiting to make sure nonetheless.

I asked because F1 2016 had it, and this stupid DRM locked me out of the game for two weeks. :p

So does anyone know if regular Rally can be played in multiplayer?

Not Rallycross or Landrush. I want to play with friends trying to beat rally time stages at the same time.

Is there a review embargo?

Tonight midnight.

As for difficulty I can only say that as with prior titles the games diff does get more and more as you dive into career.
I test all difficulties and feel like its pretty well done especially the difference between gamer control and sim control and assists on and off.
I like games that are hard as they friggen can be without making you want to die inside. And later stuff with faster cars and sim and no assists...its pretty epic. Maybe due to the games wider nature in offerings it might not be as specialized for everyone.

The real issue is for many your selling to a highly skilled crowd and the devs need to balance that with wanting newcomers.

From the above video it looks like a big downgrade from Dirt Rally graphically. Especially the foliage. Those bushes look so fake in the night stage, as if they only have one color. And overall, there's no hint of photorealism at all. I don't know what happened here.

It's fun so far! I'm just playing on the fun/arcade mode with sequential shifting
I'm not very good
But just slowly going through the career after the initial intro
Shame that there's no british co driver.

If anyone is so inclined to watch me on twitch

From the vids I've seen so far the stages look less detailed than in DR. I'm guessing that's due to the procedural generation of D4 versus the hand crafted stages of DR. Or it might not be an issue at all with more exposure to the new game, who knows. We will soon I suppose.

One of my biggest uncertainties is whether or not D4 is worth $60 to me? I paid $30 for DiRT Rally and it was so incredibly worth it to me that I was completely willing to buy tons of DLC for it, even though I completely ignored the Rallycross content. Now though, I'm still unsure if D4 has enough content to be worth twice that price, seeing as how I have zero interest in the Rallycross, Landrush, freestyle gymkata area, and so on. I just want a good rally game, but DiRT 4 is already missing the hill climbs, which is disappointing, and it seems to have fewer cars and less stage environments.

Looking very forward to Friday to discover my answers!!!

I'm interested in buggies and trucks, and even the rallycross, and, of course, rally itself (but not that open "fun" stuff area). The lack of tracks is worrying, tho. I wonder how difficult it is to grab some tracks made for Dirt 2 and 3 and put it the in Dirt 4. I remember how disappointed I was with Dirt 2 because the tracks list was really really short, but since it was a huge technical improvement over Dirt 1, I thought that it was understandable, so I waited anxiously for Dirt 3, and boy, what a disappointment it was...

Hearing that Dirt 4 still has this problem is annoying. I wonder if the generated tracks are used in the career mode or not. I hope so...

Did something happen to the dev team? Did the budget get cut or something? I mean presentation wise this looks much worse than Dirt 3. There's something about the game that seems off, can't quite put my finger on what though

short/rushed dev time?

Anyway, I do understand the graphical/presentation complaints, but I won't fully judge till the game is here. I doubt I'll be let down either way though from what I've seen.

Is there anyone who's got the game and playing on PS4 Pro.I hope Pro version can do Proper AA,AF which Dirt Rally lacks on normal PS4.

Im hearing that the simulation mode that the dev team has been hyping up as being just as realistic as Dirt Rally if not more so is actually a massive downgrade.

For what its worth I am enjoying it a great deal. I love the UI so far and the overall vibe of the game. Only put 1.5 hours into it and going to bed but happy so far with my purchase. Playing on X1 and it has been super smooth so far.

Is there a way to plan random freemode tracks that people are generating or can you only share with friends?

Had to dial the forcefeedback settings down to 20 with the TX wheel. For sure I will be obsessing with these FF sliders for a while.

competitive mode captures a smattering of them

Had a v quick go before work this morning (UK), running it on a pro and looked pretty good to me, will be giving it a proper go/stream later this afternoon.

Martin Robinson's review @ Eurogamer pretty much confirmed what I was worried about:

"Odd, though, that despite all that content Dirt 4 feels more limited in what it offers than Dirt Rally. The five locations on offer give a run-through of every surface you'd hope for in an off-road game - from the compacted snow of Sweden to the dust and dirt of Australia - but, Wales aside, none of them stir the soul quite like Dirt Rally's Finland, Greece or Monaco. The absence of iconic stages such as Sweet Lamb, the Col de Turini - and, for that matter, Pike's Peak - really hurts Dirt 4. No amount of randomly generated content can offer an effective replacement for such legends."

"It's not enough to detract from how accomplished Dirt 4 is where it matters, when you're tearing from point to point and manhandling any one of its fine selection of cars. It is enough, though, to make you miss the focus of its predecessor, and Dirt 4 falls short of the greatness of Dirt Rally. "

For what it's worth, Martin's racing game reviews have always been worth reading.

I am not feeling it on X1. Absolutley loved Dirt2 and Dirt Rally and thought we were getting the perfect mash up but it falls short of both in graphics and driving.

It definitely needs more time in the shop. Hoping for Scorpio overhaul.

What specifically about the driving is lacking?, is sim mode on a par with DR?

The graphical downgrade from last years game is a bit of a concern.

From the impressions I've read so far sim mode can't keep up with Dirt Rally and the game somehow looks worse than Rally too which wasn't exactly a looker to begin with.

The graphical downgrade from last years game is a bit of a concern.

It feels more muted and simple through the TX wheel. A dull feeling more akin to those recent wrc games. Poor surface and suspension communication. I didn't even bother with the Racer physics. I as soon as I unlocked the trucks in Baja and saw more screen tearing than I have ever seen I raged quit.

I jumped back on Xbox DR and felt like I could breath again.

Also just booted up Dirt2 on my old measly K3100m laptop running at 1080 60fps maxed graphics and it makes Dirt4 look like a previous gen b-rate game. DiRT2 is now 8 years old...and way more fun than Dirt4.

I was really hyped for the track generator, too bad.

Sounds like Dirt 4 is releasing too early. Was really looking forward to this, but will wait for more polish, DLC and a price drop.

The general sentiment seems to be that the sim mode in DiRT 4 is easier than in DiRT Rally even though the Codies said it would be the same with improvements (tarmac physics and aero).

Has any review pinpointed what exactly is different/easier?
To me it looks like you can brake later??!
In two reviews I had the feel like it only seemed easier because of the difficulty design(difficulty names, opponents, stage width, number of turns etc.) and not because of a different sim physics set than DiRT Rally.

From Eurogamers review Martin wrote this:

"Maybe that's because we were spoilt by the exemplary handling of Dirt Rally, which returns here with some thoughtful tweaks in the Simulation model. The suspension modelling has been improved, and there's now much more play in each car. There's a bigger window of opportunity with which to go about your business, making it a slightly more forgiving game than the original Rally while not forgoing any of the complexity. A knock-on effect, it would seem, is that while playing on a wheel is still the way to go, a gamepad is now a much more viable option."

Thanks, digging through some more reviews I found this here regarding your track generator suspicions:

thegamesmachine.it said:
The problem arises after a little 'hours, when - by dint of grinding stages of stages - you begin to sense the blocks that make up the basket , and for how many have thought the developers, however, are a finite number. Here in Wales, in output from a wooded tract, it is expected practically always a right 3 followed by a left on the ridge 6 , a combination that sometimes even repeated within the same stage; if, instead, been running in Sweden, after a right outside with rocks expect a Left 4 of the ridge before that despite diligent navigator (the game is translated and dubbed in Italian) make you aware of the thing with his petulant voice . As we still continue to amuse, there is no doubt that DiRT 4 lose a bit 'of freshness with the use , because the cornering incoming setting over time becomes a mnemonic exercise more than anything else: different traits are already known even first time you face a stop just created, and this brutally destroys the element of surprise, as well as put your finger in your nose to the blessed suspension of disbelief.

So it's a block based track generation system rather than something truly procedural?

The way I understand it, Codemasters made a huge square of open-world landscape for each of the environments. The turns itself are from a block-based pool and then get procedurally combined and pasted into that landscape. You won't be able to recognize "those three trees indicate this turn combination", but just looking at the track and not the environment surrounding it you might remember "after this left-right combination comes an off-camber right hander hidden behind a crest".

I didn't follow the pre release material much for this game, but was there any in depth discussion from Codies about the system? interested to see how big , numerous and diverse the blocks are, and the potential number of permutations.

Thanks! No British co driver...that's a weird choice.

You can change it, once you start Career mode and you buy a vehicle, you can then outfit your team the way you want. So you can choose between different co-drivers, with one of them being Nicky Grist (I know, not British, but at least you can change it).
