I wouldn't buy it too if that was the case, but luckily it hasn't. Paul Coleman told me that on Twitter.I'm also waiting to see if the PC version has Denuvo DRM on it or not.

Best Buy Canada shipped me my copy early! Stuck at work though...
That's good news. I didn't think they would seeing how DiRT Rally didn't have it, but I was waiting to make sure nonetheless.
Got dayum. Post some impressions once you play it 👍🏻
Yes it can but i think everyone runs at the same time, as in your not actually on the track together. So does anyone know if regular Rally can be played in multiplayer?
.
Is there a review embargo?
It's fun so far! I'm just playing on the fun/arcade mode with sequential shifting
I'm not very good
But just slowly going through the career after the initial intro
Shame that there's no british co driver.
If anyone is so inclined to watch me on twitch
From the above video it looks like a big downgrade from Dirt Rally graphically. Especially the foliage.
I'm interested in buggies and trucks, and even the rallycross, and, of course, rally itself (but not that open "fun" stuff area). The lack of tracks is worrying, tho. I wonder how difficult it is to grab some tracks made for Dirt 2 and 3 and put it the in Dirt 4. I remember how disappointed I was with Dirt 2 because the tracks list was really really short, but since it was a huge technical improvement over Dirt 1, I thought that it was understandable, so I waited anxiously for Dirt 3, and boy, what a disappointment it was...From the vids I've seen so far the stages look less detailed than in DR. I'm guessing that's due to the procedural generation of D4 versus the hand crafted stages of DR. Or it might not be an issue at all with more exposure to the new game, who knows. We will soon I suppose.
One of my biggest uncertainties is whether or not D4 is worth $60 to me? I paid $30 for DiRT Rally and it was so incredibly worth it to me that I was completely willing to buy tons of DLC for it, even though I completely ignored the Rallycross content. Now though, I'm still unsure if D4 has enough content to be worth twice that price, seeing as how I have zero interest in the Rallycross, Landrush, freestyle gymkata area, and so on. I just want a good rally game, but DiRT 4 is already missing the hill climbs, which is disappointing, and it seems to have fewer cars and less stage environments.
Looking very forward to Friday to discover my answers!!!
Did something happen to the dev team? Did the budget get cut or something? I mean presentation wise this looks much worse than Dirt 3. There's something about the game that seems off, can't quite put my finger on what though
For what its worth I am enjoying it a great deal. I love the UI so far and the overall vibe of the game. Only put 1.5 hours into it and going to bed but happy so far with my purchase. Playing on X1 and it has been super smooth so far.
Is there a way to plan random freemode tracks that people are generating or can you only share with friends?

I would love that.Also,
Rally games are still just scratching my itch until somebody finally decides to tackle this side of racing games.

I wish Codemasters would.
I am not feeling it on X1. Absolutley loved Dirt2 and Dirt Rally and thought we were getting the perfect mash up but it falls short of both in graphics and driving.
It definitely needs more time in the shop. Hoping for Scorpio overhaul.
What specifically about the driving is lacking?, is sim mode on a par with DR?
The graphical downgrade from last years game is a bit of a concern.

The general sentiment seems to be that the sim mode in DiRT 4 is easier than in DiRT Rally even though the Codies said it would be the same with improvements (tarmac physics and aero).
Has any review pinpointed what exactly is different/easier?
To me it looks like you can brake later??!
In two reviews I had the feel like it only seemed easier because of the difficulty design(difficulty names, opponents, stage width, number of turns etc.) and not because of a different sim physics set than DiRT Rally.
"Maybe that's because we were spoilt by the exemplary handling of Dirt Rally, which returns here with some thoughtful tweaks in the Simulation model. The suspension modelling has been improved, and there's now much more play in each car. There's a bigger window of opportunity with which to go about your business, making it a slightly more forgiving game than the original Rally while not forgoing any of the complexity. A knock-on effect, it would seem, is that while playing on a wheel is still the way to go, a gamepad is now a much more viable option."
Thanks, digging through some more reviews I found this here regarding your track generator suspicions:From Eurogamers review Martin wrote this:
[google translate from Italian]thegamesmachine.it said:The problem arises after a little 'hours, when - by dint of grinding stages of stages - you begin to sense the blocks that make up the basket , and for how many have thought the developers, however, are a finite number. Here in Wales, in output from a wooded tract, it is expected practically always a right 3 followed by a left on the ridge 6 , a combination that sometimes even repeated within the same stage; if, instead, been running in Sweden, after a right outside with rocks expect a Left 4 of the ridge before that despite diligent navigator (the game is translated and dubbed in Italian) make you aware of the thing with his petulant voice . As we still continue to amuse, there is no doubt that DiRT 4 lose a bit 'of freshness with the use , because the cornering incoming setting over time becomes a mnemonic exercise more than anything else: different traits are already known even first time you face a stop just created, and this brutally destroys the element of surprise, as well as put your finger in your nose to the blessed suspension of disbelief.
So it's a block based track generation system rather than something truly procedural?
The way I understand it, Codemasters made a huge square of open-world landscape for each of the environments. The turns itself are from a block-based pool and then get procedurally combined and pasted into that landscape. You won't be able to recognize "those three trees indicate this turn combination", but just looking at the track and not the environment surrounding it you might remember "after this left-right combination comes an off-camber right hander hidden behind a crest".

Thanks! No British co driver...that's a weird choice.
Anybody doing the OT for this? Not grabbing at launch but probably next couple of days.
