Yes. Where's the grittiness in this trailer? I saw funny animals, humans, a colorful future world, and weird shit.

Musta been the part where the monkey with the grapple glove duped an old pigman in order to steal a disc for his skull space-pirate ship.

I love the art style, looks really cool. It was a bit emotional to see Ancel on stage for this game. I've been thinking about BG&E for over a decade.

no matter if Vivendi cancels it or the project won't come out until 3 years from now in some weird form, the trailer was very impressive. Huge compliments to the CGI team working on it <3

Basically. I found it to be along the lines of Guardians of the Galaxy or Overwatch. Those aren't gritty.

The style, characters and design looked absolutely spectacular. We'll see how well it translates into the actual game visuals, but the foundation is there for something really special.

I've never played the first one so I'm a bit confused. The girl at the very end is the protagonist right, and it isn't Jade even though she kinda looked like her?

Agreed.

The guess of her being Jade's mother seems to fit quite well since she looks quite a bit like her. Especially after Ancel confirmed it's a prequel taking place some time before Jade was born.

This is fucking rad! I will reserve some caution in regards to the whole space monkey program, but I am fucking excited! I have faith in Ancel. Not blind faith, but enough to not worry too much about the fan collaboration aspect just yet.

Awesome CGI, but I didn't like the tone and the animal people are just strange. Maybe cause I never played the first one? I don't get it. Its great fans are actually going to get a game they have wanted for years though.

Yes, all the characters and the world are so cool.
I'd watch an a animated movie about it.
And that Hindu statue at the end? Fuck that was cool.

Btw that infamous gameplay from years ago set in totally-not sci Fi India, had a close vibe to this, if not as vibrant and alive.

Wow....just fucking wow! That would be one amazing universe to explore. Shit, this could be a fucking movie. Very impressive Ubi. Hands down you guys are stealing E3 2017 thus far.

That trailer was absolutely amazing. I need to play the first.

I don't usually like CG trailers, but the atmosphere was just so much fun.

Not sure how to feel about the multiplayer aspect, but we'll see. The first game is single player only, right?

People keep saying it's looks nothing like BGE, but there was a moment in the trailer where I started thinking, "what ELSE could this be, given that it's Ubisoft? They can't have another IP with talking animals, that technology, and futuristic setting crossed with familiar locales"

I've never played BG&E.

Halfway through this trailer, I said out loud to my fiance, "Wait, is this Beyond Good & Evil?"

Just like I'd be more interested in that game if it didn't have rabbids, I'd be less disappointed with this game if it didn't have "Beyond Good & Evil" in the title.

It's obviously a game that plays in the same universe and probably a direct prequel to the first one, so to act like it's a different franchise, wouldn't make any sense. I knew immediately what game was shown, right at the first frame.

That aside, it's stunning you can tell already that you are disappointed with this game, even though all we've seen is a cinematic trailer and we don't know shit about gameplay. But hey, more power to you.

Some info from Guillemot on the Youtube show:

  • Collaborative with fans and people who can have an impact (something very important for Ancel)
  • It's not funding by fans, it's creative collaboration with fans and reiterate based on feedback and suggestions
  • 3 years working on a new engine
  • Closed doors display of a in-engine gameplay segment at this E3

Everybody seems to be confused at this, with good reason given that we haven't seen gameplay yet and don't have a sense of how far away the game is, but I think the collaboration Ancel is talking about might just be indicative of a drawn-out community alpha/beta-testing period, especially if the online component is central to the experience. They're really being much vaguer about this than they need to be, but the whole Space Monkey thing could just as well be a closed beta sign-up.

It's Ubisoft so PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4.

umm UBisoft has more Switch games announced then all the big AAA 3rd parties combined, plus they have snowdrop engine running on the system with 2 games announced. This game is far off, it will come to Switch the system is doing too good

Cool first look...impressive art design and the whole feel is really nice. Kind of an Incal/Heavy Metal comics thing going. The cursing is kind of cheesy, but whatever...a lot of those 70s/80s comics weren't subtle.

Nothing like Beyond Good and Evil, though. Kind of weird that they just didn't do a new property. It lacks the charm and comfy vibe of the original...just don't see the connection here, spiritually or tonally.

but sadly they're not, they're getting the chance to sign up for the online beta of a very different game that may not even exist yet, wearing the name of the game they've been waiting for for years.

again, great CG trailer though.

To this...see the problem. This osn't just tech imporvements. This is a huge sway into the typical stylings we see in games these days...

It's honestly kinda sad that they need to pander to that sort of audience to get any sort of attention. Apparently hyper real dark and gritty with swearing is what the IP has to be in order to be greenlit. Frankly i wish it stayed dead.

Haha, yeah a full animated movie would be cool. I have no idea how they'll achieve these setpieces like the hindu statue at the end.

I wonder who worked on the trailer, it was very impressive. The style, the music, the tone all were just so fun and fresh.

Aspects of the gameplay were clearly mentioned in the trailer and during the reveal. Some of those aspects (shared online world, community collaboration) were not a part of the first game. Fans of the first game can be suspicious or happy about this.

Gimme a break, there's nothing typical about this game's look.
And that Disney look the original had, wasn't typical?

I find it annoying how you reduce someone artistic choices to trying to grab the edgy kids audience, but the forced cynicism is ironic at least.

As someone who never played the original this had me pretty hyped, the trailer was fantastic. The language felt a bit forced but oh man the designs, the setting, characters, I really liked it. Hope the game itself can capture some of the magic weirdness they shared with us.

I actually thought the pilot at the end was Jade for a second. Not sure how connected this is going to be, but I could see that being her mom. Maybe young Pey'j from that concept art is on the ship as one of the rebels.

I mean, if the fact that it takes place in the same universe is the only similarity the game has to the original, I think that's pretty disappointing. We don't know much, but the name and universe are pretty much all we have that links back to the game people actually like.

We still don't know how those things are going to be implemented. But sure, be suspicious, I am as well. That's not the same as writing it off immediately, though, which many here are already doing.

young pey'j is practically confirmed and we have no idea where the story is going. For all we know the last bit of the game will pick up where the original left off.

Who said anything about typical. I just want consistency. Something faithful to the original. This is about as far from it as you can get.

A young Pey'J is so gonna be in this game, that's gonna be awesome. I'll contain my excitement about the game until I see some concrete gameplay and a release date not 3+ years away though. Also, thank god there's no mention of exclusivity, everyone should be able to experience BG&E.

I was thinking the same thing. Jade's origins were always a mystery so I'm thinking the game's story will feature her parents and young Pey'j.

Of course, a hyper-realistic style would not have been possible back then, and would have looked bad if attempted. This is Ancel going for another view of his world, and a style he's been wanting to show for some time, given the previous teaser trailer years ago.

Also, did you play the original BG&E? It's a grim tale of totalitarianism, manufactured war, corruption, and a mass media that works in service of that corruption. It has bright colors and a more cartoonish art style, though. I'll give you that.
