Beyond Good and Evil 2 E3 2017 CG Trailer (prequel, online or solo, early access?)

What did you fucking think of the fucking Beyond Good & Evil 2 trailer?

seen it a couple times now and still getting chills when the title shows up. going full on French sci-fi with the design is a step for this franchise that I'm totally down with. I love this trailer, hope this is indicative of the game.

Chalk me up as another person confused as to what the hell this is, since aside from anthropomorphic animals it appears to have nothing to do with the original game in tone or style.

Went from a mostly nonviolent photographer sheltering a bunch of cute war orphans to watching some street hustlers kill thousands of people for shits and giggles. It's weird. Forget Jade, I just don't see any similarities to Hillys aside from the flying cars.

All art / Graphics regarding this game (BGE2) has been consistent since it's initial announcement with systematic improvements.
It is not restricted by PS2 era technology so it doesn't have to have limited design.

The gameplay will definitely be different, but they've pointed at this since day 1.

The only differences this trailer has brought to the table is that it is a prequel (so it might not involve Jade or Pay'j) and it's not afraid to use profanity.

Aside from that, the Universe is consistent with BG&E--albeit with graphical updates, the music is a clear representation of BG&E...and hopefully, we will learn about Jade's predecessors / parents which is something that the original dangled throughout the adventure.

II'm personally happy with this announcement. :D

I didn't realize this was a prequel. I never paid much attention until now assuming that it would never actually get off the ground.

I don't understand the "cringe" with swearing. People swear in real-life. If everyone was cussing and it was being used as a stylistic device, I think I could see the issue. But it looks like it was limited to just one character in the trailer.

Trailer got me pumped, even if it was CGI.

I am wondering though, what is the gameplay going to be like?

Cause the trailer totally made me think of The Fifth Element with some District 9 thrown in.

Are they going to open world sci fi exploration/rpg or are they going to keep it like BGE1 and have structured missions with racing/stealth missions, etc (god I hate forced stealth missions).

I'm fine with the cursing even if it goes a little against the spirit of the original game.

I'm disappointed it's a prequel and not actually a sequel as I was very invested in where the story from the first game was going to go, and I don't think it would've been a problem getting new players to pick up on a continuing story (especially since the remastered version of BG&E is so readily available). But I'm not about to sit and complain at length about it. BG&E is back, baby.

I really enjoy the idea and the game looked stunning.

But this is like getting Half Life 3 and its a prequel. I hope BG&E2 has at least DLC to continue the story from the first one.

wow that looked fantastic. CG trailer and all that, but yeah really digging the tone. Loved that they brought the team up on stage afterward.

Went from a mostly nonviolent photographer sheltering a bunch of cute war orphans to watching some street hustlers kill thousands of people for shits and giggles. It's weird. Forget Jade, I just don't see any similarities to Hillys aside from the flying cars.

So a few points:

-There IS photography, Ancel confirmed it in an interview on Twitch. He was describing how you could take a photo and show it to characters in the world to gather information.

-It isn't Hillys - its a planet in (I think) another sector of the galaxy. There will be multiple planets. I'm not sure why they chose to focus on this one, but I imagine there will be considerable variation. Otherwise there isn't any point in having multiple planets.

-I'm not sure why, but all of the BGE2 stuff we've seen - even the teasers we saw a few years ago are set in more gritter, desert environments unlike the first game, so it must have been something Ancel felt strongly about even as the game jumped from a sequel to prequel story. If I had to guess, Hilys will appear towards the end, at the very least in a cutscene, transitioning to the first game.

-Jade fights stuff in the first game.

Even she seems to be of the opinion that the rumour ought to be considered dead if the game skips Nintendo's presentation.

I'm loving the potential for fleshing out the story through worldbuilding here. The one thing I always really wanted from the first game was to know more about this universe they live in. It's quite neat, and I'm hoping the music helps set the multiethnic tone too. The music was one of my fav things from the first game.

And at first when I was watching the trailer, the cursing had me doubting it would be BG&E2, but the last segment made it pretty clear. It seems like a weird change, but I doubt every single character is gonna sound like they came from a Tarantino movie.

World and design are amazing, concept is great, the sweary dialogue reeks of trying too hard. Feels like they're making a point rather than letting the characters talk organically.

Sad that there's no continuation to BG&E, but it has been 15 years. They should change the title.

I was at work for all of today's different E3 conferences but this was unexpected and awesome. The monkey is absolutely perfect, and I think his messed up teeth make that character even better.

Also seeing a few of the Ubisoft devs almost break composure really showed that these people put their heart and soul into what they are doing. I think Ubisoft had a damn good conference. Hopefully they keep listening to feedback and can beat down Vivendi.

I thought I could never again be half as angered by a video game trailer as I was by the Twilight Princess reveal.

I was wrong.

Heh, that's not what I would have done. At all.
Not being comical, you should reevaluate some things if you're not joking.

It's a video game and you're making a (vague) allusion to physically or verbally going after a man who took a direction with a game that you don't quite agree with. This man, moreover, this franchise, owes you nothing personally. It's fine to be upset, hell, kick and scream all you want about disliking the reveal. But something about the tone in which you're suggesting your actions around Ancel, it just reads bitter and a bit frightening and disturbing. You should really check yourself here.

Great trailer, looks amazing, love the new 5th Element like setting.

The swearing was pretty stupid, including the chav monkey but other than that;
Can't wait!

Nope. Website's been giving me errors all day.

Okay, glad its not just me. I'm all in on this game and wanted to join the Space Monkeys (hate that name lol), but it just has an endless load pop-up when I try to sign up so I guess I'll wait.

I'm sorry so many of you seem to be displeased with this title. This is actually competing with Anthem for Game of the Show for me atm.

I really like the look of this. And the general art direction of what they showed.

I find amusing the puritanism around here about the swearing considering the amount of violence and gore hosted in the games shown at this E3 (and any E3 in recent memory).

Just woke up, any new concrete info on this or still prequel, online, shared open world?
prequel
online optional
'shared world' probably just means you can have friends in your game if you want, nothing MMO style

it's probably going to be a really good game if it ever comes out

I'll remain on the fence until I see some gameplay. Not sure if this is what I want from a BG&E sequel.

Also, is Ancel still working on Wild? We haven't heard about that one for a while.

Yeah, I'm kinda bummed about it being a prequel (I mean, why?) but I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt to make a good game and not The Division in the BG&E universe or some crap like that.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "fuck" on their airplanes because it's obscene!"

But seriously, i don't get it either, i swear a lot though.

Trailer was pretty amazing as a showpiece for the style/atmosphere they're going.

Bit salty this is like the third CG trailer I've seen of 'Beyond Good & Evil 2'. Ready for some ingame stuff, kinda.

Not liking the swearing doesn't neccessarily relate to puratinism lol. Some writers, actors, etc know how to swear, some don't. So it comes off as silly or a forced attempt to be edgy at times. Tarantino can write motherfucker lines well, not all his imitators can.

Not saying I neccessarily agree that it was handled poorly, but to dismiss people's issues with that as them not liking them because it's obscene is, quite frankly, kinda fucking stupid. Especially when you already have some pretty obvious contexts as to why people might find it offputting (like being a sequel to a pretty PGish game).

My wife, who legit beat the 1st game (one of the few she has in her entire life-- she's not a gamer) actually said that the constant F-Bombs were a turn off. She'd like to experience this with our kids and yeah, it felt overly forced.
