Crackdown 3 (XB/PC, Sumo Digital) E3 Trailer out Nov 7th

As someone who has Crackdown 2 (which itself was a prettier CD1) sitting in the 360 right now, the game I'm seeing here actually does look a generation ahead. The lighting alone is on another level.

Any word on the return of the wingsuit?

Also, I see that they added double jump and boost options, lets hope we some environments that take use of them. All in all, I'm actually impressed by the footage I'm seeing coming out now compared the E3 showing.

wingsuit from what i've read won't be in the game at launch but they're open to adding it post launch

It's not much but here's that little bit of b-roll in 1080p

Nice, that is the Crackdown I miss. I'm assuming this is an enhanced mode (like the demo from Crackdown 1) where the enemies and power up speeds are enhanced.

Looking forward to hunting around the city for orbs at my own pace without worrying too much about the enemy gangs.

B-roll looks good but man, this would have really benefitted from being 60fps.

I only wish that MS isn't mandating 4K, but I think that actually might be the case considering it is the only One X launch title.

Are they only mandating it for their own first party then? Because they aren't for any other developers. I wasn't even aware that they mandated it for their own games.

We've not seen transformable cars yet right?

I don't know, but I'm speculating they could be for their first party titles. Perhaps it was a developer choice, but it just *looks* like it should be running at a higher framerate, especially considering the style of game it is.

it doesnt seem like the car was in the demo but they say they are in the game

plus we saw footage of an animation they were working on for the SUV a couple years ago

Trying to wrap my head around it. The SP mode has no destruction as was shown in the initial Crackdown 3 trailer, however MP does, because of the cloud?

It's also apparently a way, way smaller bit of space.

There are basically two games in one: the standard Crackdown (which can be played Co-Op, thus maybe some of the confusion over what they meant by "multiplayer") and then a totally separate multiplayer mode called "Wrecking Zone" that's some sort of deathmatch or stuff-hunt game in an arena where the buildings of the stage can be knocked down.

I can't believe they actually kept Crackdown's original climbing mechanics. What a relief! I was convinced they'd be forced to make it "modern" and implement automated climbing.
It's probably going to review poorly (hearing Giant Bomb dudes complain for years about how much effort climbing took in games like Assassin's Creed or inFamous was pretty distressing), but I'm really glad that the devs stuck to their guns.

I'm okay with this actually. As a post game or post launch addition the wingsuit is fine, but getting it early on would ruin some of Crackdown's charm imo as it essentially breaks the platforming lol.

Also, I'm hoping there's a late-game helicopter.

EDIT:

The SP/4p co-op never had destruction. They stated that numerous times throughout its initial reveal/demos.

I agree, although I wasn't aware of the complaints from the media regarding the original's mechanics.

Needing to level up in order to make some ledges, or finding a new path in order to climb some buildings was what made the first game so intriguing. Similar to this site, you get drawn in for the gang battles but you stick around for the orb tracking/climbing/leveling. Also, there better be an achievement for climbing the tallest building again (and hopefully a pool below to dive in).

I'm noticing this weird thing in the videos where it looks like the agent is crawling up the side of the building for a second before grabbing a ledge. Like in Saints Row 4 before you unlock the wall running ability where you can mash the jump button next to a building to propel yourself up it. I really need a demo of this........

It looks like an emergency "double jump" in case you narrowly miss a ledge. Seems like a fair addition.

Looking for confirmation. All I have seen in campaign is single player footage. Any link to confirmation? Sorry, I just need to know cuz my buddies and I had a complete ball with Crackdown 2 and Gears 4 let us down with the no 4 player campaign.

They've stated it numerous times in interviews, but from the Xbox site:
Play with up to four-friends over Xbox Live to take out a violent criminal empire and use the city as a weapon against your enemies.

It definitely looks a lot better than the E3 trailer so that's great. But it's missing any real new stuff. Perhaps that's just on me, but I was expecting some new features. After so many years I expected something well, unexpected.

It really seems to be exactly like Crackdown and I just hope I can still enjoy it. Maybe I remember Crackdown differently, maybe it's just nostalgia for me. I'm not as excited as some folks here. Not yet.

They took the movement and loading times from ReCore that's for sure.

God damn that loading screen was there for fucking aaaaaaaaages.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.

Maybe it's a bit like GTAV, in that respect. Slow to load, then seamless from that point onward.

Hmm. Now that I think about it it's more like the wall scramble from the new Tomb Raider games. As long as you can't spam it I agree it should be fine.

I agree, so far this game looks like a Crackdown 1 expansion with better graphics. The mission structure sounds the same except the bosses are in mechs and only come out after you take down a bunch of their bases. And then you have female agents and some new weapons (one of them being a black hole gun shamelessly stolen from Saints Row 4 lol). The multiplayer is probably what's going to make this game deserve the 3.

Yeah MP is probably going to bring the difference that we really want. Hopefully we see some footage of that sooner than later. It could be really cool.

Impressions from Kotaku

Calls orb hunting and shooting fun but
The rest of the experience was less impressive, as both driving and melee combat felt stiff. Driving itself felt superfluous in a game world where I could leap from rooftop to rooftop, and the animations for punching and kicking were hard to parse, making it difficult to actually hit what I wanted to.

If there is a star when it comes to firepower, it is the series of weapons that I found scaling rooftops. Homing rockets and pulse guns created spectacles, and I was particularly fond of a gun that fired a miniature singularity, sucking cars and enemies into a black hole before spitting them out in a gout of flame and mayhem.

I would say that's right. People die in a few of those videos and respawn in <10 seconds.

driving was always pointless unless it was in the agency vehicles that would turn into rocket cars and stuff.

I don't know if they've shown that or if it's in the game but that was the case in the original games.

When I was talking to the guy at fanfest he said they had to take them out temporarily because they completely brake the game with the new forward boost.

Also Keys to the City is coming back!

Are the different grenades still in the game ? I remember those magnetic link ones that could be used to slingshot items around.

I agree... I was hoping for stylized beauty like SunsetOverdrive provided- which is gorgeous at 900p.

I just can't see this as impressive visually. It looks like 4K but in low settings...

I would have gladly taken a checkerboard approach with better lighting, reflections, better less aggressive LODs, and more detailed models and better particle effects

Unless objects are 2ft away they look flat. (And no it's not due to the cell shading). What good is 4K if it's just giving you a sharp view of mediocrity?

Anyway, the game looks like great fun to play. I wish try had shown gameplay instead of that trailer.
