If my wife and I will need:

2 PS4 systems
2 copies of Monster Hunter World
2 active subscriptions to PSN+

to play a monster hunter game I'm afraid we won't be able to follow Capcom into this new territory.

Don't forget two TVs!

Gonna miss handheld Monster Hunter. At least my girlfriend and I have two PCs... to play later than everyone else. :(

Still, game is sounding better and better based on Twitter answers.

Okay just watched a four player demo fight against Rathalos! At E3 . I've played hundreds of hours of monster hunter, and absolutely cannot wait for this game now 😄

At most you and your wife would need 2 PS4s, 1 PS+ and 1 digital copy of the game. You could gameshare.

I hope there's split screen, but I doubt it.

You only need a psn+ sub and a digital copy of the game.

You also needed 2 3ds systems and 2 games back then, tho

Amazing. I'm now convinced he's wrong for valuing local co-op and finding it a big deal to his enjoyment. Thank you.

Yeah, Astral should play BlazBlue/Guilty Gear to fill his MH void.

Am I missing a joke, or is your post it? I honestly can't tell.

Well, I mean, Monster Hunter World is right there to fill his Monster Hunter void. Dude said he only liked the game because of local multiplayer.

Which has the implication that he doesn't actually like the game part of the game.

Why not just buy vitas and play Gods Eater together or something.

I mean, if he DID like the game, he'd be disappointed but still be interested in this because, y'know, it's got the same gameplay. They just need something else to fill the void when he's got friends around.

If, for example, they announced that they were releasing a Dark Souls game but that no longer had multiplayer anymore, I'd be disappointed, but you can sure as hell guarantee I'm there Day One for more Souls.

Anyone know if we can still team up before a hunt? At the moment MHW makes us assume you have to be out and about on missions and you can call in for support only after you start the mission

I agree that styles made the gunlance more playable, however, I'd rather they just fix gunlance, since it's my favourite weapon alongside Charge Blade.

Well I suppose that's a good point too lol. Aside from the new mechanics I'm actually not expecting major weapon rebalancing but if they finally decide to throw Gunlance a bone I'll probably hype myself into the floor. The heat gauge was a step in the right direction but the damage buff isn't big enough to make a huge difference and the need for patience and deliberate moves to manage it was too much in contrast with the faster pace of Gen imo.

Aerial Style was pretty crazy. Load Up + a high Lv Long Gunlance and Dragons Breath did truckloads of Full Burst damage, even more than Normal type Gunlances with the same buffs. And that was ignoring the Aerial triple poke and constant mounts. I eventually stopped using it out principle since I kept getting clear times that were minutes faster than my other sets lol.

I think by drop in and out means at any moment you can join up. So before the hunt, during, and after. Example could be calling for help, finishing up the monster, and going back to base camp together to pick a new hunt. At least, thats how I hope you can do it.

Honestly if you can join friends for a hunt, and not have to ready up at the same time before going out, ill be stoked.

How does the player without PSN+ play online?
I had no idea PS4 had this feature.

3DS - $150
Copy of Monster Hunter - $40
Cost - $380 forever

PS4 - $250
Copy of Monster Hunter World - $60
PSN+ sub - $60/year
Cost - $620 for one year

I can't speak for your financial situation, but for me this is a significant problem.

So far it's sounding like you can still team up normally, but the signal flare is just a way to open up the game mid hunt. Like, if someone disconnected, or you're having more trouble than you expected. Or you didn't have a full group going in and just wanted to top your group up without waiting in the lobby.

However, there's very little solid evidence right now beyond us knowing that there's definitely still co-op and that one way to start it is through the flare.

Do you both have PCs? I know not everyone has one that could run it, but my personal situation is that I'm probably going to double dip on both the PS4 version and the PC version when it comes out on PC and force my PC gamer girlfriend to play with me whether she wants to or not. Annoyingly all of my gaming friends are PC gamers so if I want to play with people I know I have to get PC version later down the line.

Personally hoping for some kind of character transference system between version since I doubt we're getting cross play.

This would be a big deal just to get around server disconnects and whatnot. I dont want to be hyperbolic but, imo, its HUGE. I actually feel ridiculous saying that as its been a standard feature for gaming since forever ago...but monster hunter is way behind.

I actually really want to know how I can play games with my wife online with only one copy of the game and one PSN+ account. If I could play SoulsBorne with her this way it would actually make me consider keeping my PSN+ sub for a while longer.

Is this a demo in a public area (can expect video) or is it one of those demos you watch in a private room?

Probably too much to hope for, but hope we get at least as many monsters as 3U/4 (4U/Generations seems impossible). One advantage of sticking on similar hardware for so long is they never were forced to deprecate models/animation before...

Hopefully that's what they're showing on the PS stream in an hour. A good look at the combat will most likely sell me on this game.

What little was shown of the gameplay looked like it's probably as tedious as typical MH games but at least the visuals are nice this time.

Still think I'll pass all the same.

If I can buy a PC that will run the game well for under $250 I'm interested.
So, you'd only stick with Monster Hunter if it were forever a 3DS franchise? Cause you'd run into the financial problem no matter which other console the next Monster Hunter game released on.

You can share digital licenses between two accounts, including psn+. The only condition is that one of the accounts must be always online to play the shared game, but you're intending to play online anyway

Looking at your scenarios, I wouldn't do any of those two things the way you worded them btw, if the only thing you care about is MH you shouldn't buy the system, much less two of them. If there are more things you're interested, that's different.

Not at all. If Monster Hunter World supports local couch co-op this isn't a problem. What chances are there that it does?

Wow, that sounds awesome.

"They keeps stressing that there is a hierarchy of monsters."

Seems like that'll be a key part -- Rathalos > Anjanath > Great Jagras -- leading monsters to others results in the monsters fighting each other (presumably stealth plays a part here too).

"As they fight a hunter places a barrel bomb by some rocks and blows it up"

Barrel bombs confirmed

I really hope that doesn't mean damage numbers, cause that would be super lame. Making gathering casual is one thing, ruining one of the games best parts "Reading the monsters health/stamina" is another.

It didn't say there were health/stamina bars. I'm not sure I want damage numbers, but I don't think it'd hurt much. It'd mostly just let players more easily determine the weak points on the monster without looking up wikis.

edit: but as others point out, it might just mean you see visual damage (cuts etc) on the monster.

I'm gonna wait for direct footage, since that damage counter detail doesn't seem right.

Man wouldn't be cool, now that we're on console that are leagues beyond the 3ds, if we could have some couch coop on a monster hunter game?

I don't see an issue with damage numbers if there's no health bar (no indication that there is). Of course, having an option to turn it off is ideal.
