See this is interesting. Whenever we work on a classic IP we always try to capture the spirit and make it look how you remember it, we did this on Transformed and we are attempting to do it here.

The thing is, the rudimentary art style was the worst part of Crackdown! Lol, please don't let the previous games hold you back.

I think a lot of people like Crackdown because it's a diamond in the rough. Tons of potential under a kinda basic surface (both visually and gameplay-wise). That's why we were so excited about the destruction; seemed like the perfect way to add more depth in a truly Crackdown way.

Please tell me destruction plays a significant role in single player? Even Red Faction Guerilla almost two generations ago could handle an amazing structural-based destruction engine without cloud nonsense. Surely you could add one or two buildings with that level of dynamic physics... just say that some vintage buildings in the city never got the sci-fi structural upgrades that make the other buildings invincible! Even if local destruction is Scorpio exclusive, have it in there somewhere!

Yeah, some of the gameplay video's and the coverage on Xbox E3 Day 2 coverage has me excited. The presentation on the E3 Conference was pretty lack luster and showed the game is really bad light...so I hope more footage is released. I agree with others, it would be awesome if this was 60fps, but a world this big at 4k is already pushing a lot. I wonder if future SDK's will help? I know there was that tweet before the reveal at E3 about games on "X" having to go through the October SDK which led that Jez gut that said think it would be a November launch.

I can not wait for this freaking game!

Any word on when Crackdown 1 or 2 are coming to backwards compatibility?

What about a demo or beta for the new game?

A special part of Crackdown 1 was the audio. Thumping clubs muffled just perfectly. I hope the same attention to detail is done here. I want my 9.2 Atmos system to be used! :-D

I liked it, it gave the game a unique and recognizable look. I'm glad they managed to upgrade it without getting rid of the visual style.

I think the game looks great. Crackdown has always been about physics, systems and mechanical freedom rather than GRAPHIXSHHHH.

The art style is great too: vibrant and pulsating, but also dark and rugged.

For an open world game, I'm really unsure how people think the 360 could pull this off.

I'd be happy if it looks like a mona lisa or a baked potato - I'm just hyped for more Crackdown gameplay

Did they mention if they're bringing back the boss and sub-boss mechanic of the original? (Where you could knock out certain sub-bosses in order to suppress supplies, making traversal and the final boss fight easier)

Graphics look fine to me.

I just want to know, will the RPG mechanics return? Will the orbs return? Will the jump physics be good like in Crackdown 1 and not shit like in 2?

Yes, all of that is in the various videos in this thread. As for jumping, everyone who's played it states it feels like the og Crackdown, so should be what you're after.

Some interesting Crackdown 3 info

http://absolutexbox.com/e3-2017-cra...-and-intimidation-system-revealed/2017/06/12/

So, for example, say you’ve smashed the crap out of a kingpin’s business and rendered it useless, the kingpin will send his/her gang to hunt you down. Sounds pretty simple, to be honest, but the developers insist this a big part of the game’s draw.

According to the developers, nobody will play the exact same game. Gang retaliations will be completely different for every player as they’re dynamic and can happen anytime, anywhere. Bit creepy

Then there’s the Feedback system. Crackdown 3 takes place 10 years after the original game, so sometime in the near-future. As all near-futures are prone to, Crackdown 3’s has lots of electronic and neon signage and billboards. Standard stuff. What isn’t standard is that the gang bosses will use these electronics to threaten you if you piss them off. You could be jumping around hunting for orbs – generally being a nice agent – and then you’ll spot a billboard threatening your life.

This is the game that is single handedly making me return to my Xbox One after a looong absence

CAN'T F'ING WAIT! (^_____^)

Popped back to see what folk were thinking now some actual gameplay footage is out there!

Thanks for popping in man!

Game is looking glorious!

See this is interesting. Whenever we work on a classic IP we always try to capture the spirit and make it look how you remember it, we did this on Transformed and we are attempting to do it here.

In a way its great people think it looks like Crackdown as this is what we're aiming for!

It was always a bit comic book, hence the choice to go a little more stylised with the look. I think as we reveal new areas you'll see we've tried to make a much more diverse city than you've had in previous Crackdown games, but of course, this is the initial reveal so we dont want to ruin too many surprises...

I've seen a few comments on this. The first point to understand is we've tried to make a very reactive character, you can change direction almost instantly both on the ground and in the air, its more akin to making something more Japanese in nature. So we've tried to find the right mix between stylised poses, quick movement and try and avoid animation slowing down the ability to react quickly.

Its a challenge, not least when you can accelerate up to 60mph on foot and still need go be able to stop and turn on a dime.

The air-burst 'double jump' isn't actually designed to greatly extend your jump height or distance, its more of a saving throw when you're at low level to 'just make' a jump you may otherwise miss. As you level up you can use it to get further due to the increase in height, but this is still a platformer and about using the environment, not the means to fast travel ala Anthem. Thats not immediately apparent granted in videos, but it makes sense when you are hands on.

As with all things though, bear in mind the game is still very much in development, so everything will get more polished before we're done.

As I keep seeing people ask, yes the whole of Campaign can be played in 4 player Co-Op too. We're trying to bring the best parts of Crackdown back, we know folk love to play through the game together, so its a major part of the effort we're doing.

Nice to see people getting excited though. We have a genuine passion for the game, we've been working pretty hard to get this out in front of you and we're pushing like maniacs to make it worthy of the series.

I know the guys working on the 'other' side of the game are eager to show that off too, sorry to keep you all waiting on that front, but it was Campaigns turn this time!

You guys have done a great job. Cant wait.

Didnt Crackdown 1have hit squads that came after you or am I completely making that up?

....or was it when you killed to many civilians The Agency sent hit squads after you?

It did, but they've expanded on that a bit. If you keep being successful against a particular boss, he/she themselves will come after you. That definitely didn't happen in the first game.

The art style was great and one of the first things I liked from the trailer. I'm glad it's there and definitely wouldn't say it was the worst part of crackdown.

This is why I love GAF.

Can't wait for this guys! Was a huge fan of 1 and 2 and this looks amazing.

(now where did I save that agility orb text message tone I used to have?)

I am interested in the development story. Looks like it's only Sumo now vs. the original team. Am I wrong on that?
No surprise this has been in what, 4 years of dev time and the trailer looked that rough? Needed way more polish to seriously impress.

It still looks OK, but not 4 years worth of development.

I still don't think it looks good, looking at that 10 min of combat above. I guess I expected more for a modern AAA title. That said, jumping around is probably very fun to do when actually playing it.

Microsoft isn't doing this game any favors. If it's fun, they need to show the gameplay. If it's gorgeous, they need to show off the graphics. Right now all they managed to communicate is the team Terry Crews is in it.

And yet it's one of their few first party games ready for the X. What are they thinking?

It's definitely looking much better than the trailer in these hands-on videos, I can't say I'm excited for the single player still though, everything they say sounds like Crackdown 1, which is great in theory, but I feel like the bar now is a lot higher than that for open world games, Saints Row 4 outdid the superpowers, Mordor outdid the gang system, etc etc.

It sounds like a game produced to an MS brief of 'Make crackdown' and not any kind actual vision for the franchise.

Without pushing any of the core elements forward very much, the destruction really was the thing they needed to stand out in my opinion, I'm still really interested to see more of that in the multiplayer.

this is actually a good point and the main reason crackdown 2 was so poorly received. it was TOO safe and TOO similar... i mean, i loved the first crackdown, but it's 10 years later, it needs to be more than just that game all over again.

I hated Crackdown 2 because of how different it was. The change from fighting organized gangs to throngs of mindless zombies completely ruined the game.

I agree with this though I didn't hate C2, I still had fun with it but also found it disappointing.

It's funny seeing folks talk about Saints Row IV alongside Crackdown because, honestly, I find SRIV to be nowhere near as fun as Crackdown 1 is. Crackdowns orb hunting/platforming is still one of the most satisfying things in a videogame IMO and that game couldn't compare. Especially with things like ascending the Agency tower. Crackdown's simpler but that's also the best thing about it. It's such a great game to chill out too, even now. Now admittedly I don't know what the gaming market is going to be like now for Crackdown 3 in wider audience terms but it seems to be, on initial footage at least, exactly what I want from a Crackdown sequel.

I mean, you're not really communicating the degree of difference here. Crackdown 2 ditched the gang structure for mostly fighting hordes of zombies or a single unified resistance (which was pretty dull themselves), and it all took place on the same map with the same gear and the same graphics. This seems like a fairly different animal.

Devs also said there's a lot more to see which they don't want to 'spoil' right now.

One thing in particular is vehicles, where they say they have brought more attention to them as people mostly ignored them before and went orb hunting on foot lol.

I'm really impressed with this game now that gameplay is available. I was a tad worried because all I really knew Sumo from was LBP 3 which was less than ideal.

But hey, consider me sold.

I just watched the gameplay.

There was the initial disappointment of the lack of single player destruction and a rather poor trailer but I gotta say this totally reminded of just how much fun I had with the original Crackdown and this looks like Crackdown 1 turned it up to 11.

My faith has definitely been restored. It might not have to best graphics and animation out there but it looks like good ol' video gamey fun and that's all I ask for really.

DopeyFish

Not bitter, just unsweetened
not to mention it looks like they addressed the enemy variety in this game, too.

like... the variations in the original game were basically

gang member

gang member with rocket launcher/sniper rifle

gang member with lots of health

fighting mechs? turrets on the train rails? lol we've already seen little robots too

Devs also said there's a lot more to see which they don't want to 'spoil' right now.

i have this hope that they'll have a halo warthog type of vehicle for co-op
