Crackdown 3 (XB/PC, Sumo Digital) E3 Trailer out Nov 7th

I was disappointed after the trailer, but after some gameplay videos I'm a believer again. Kudos to Sumo. Is wingsuit in?

They could've at least added a new power or something...are there seriously no new mechanics?

well... there's a double jump, a barrel roll and a little booster mechanic.

ground pound seems like a thing people will use now... also has a rush punch thing

they made throwing like completely crazy powered now... so people can use that. (usually throwing things in CD1 and 2 wouldn't go over too well because AI would just walk out of the slowly moving object coming to them) Also the pick up mechanic appears to be more magnetic now... you press to lift and it just sucks whatever is closest into your hands

they're modifying the transforming cars to make them more useful (assuming to give players more incentive to use)

plus as an added bonus, looks like a lot of the auto-aiming weirdness seems to be fixed

probably a bunch of new stuff they haven't shown us yet beyond that, too.

Hype is back in a big way. It's a shame they missed the mark with E3. I want this game to succeed.

If MP hits it out of the park and there is some really really cool stuff in the campaign, I am sure there's going to be some good reviews. Plus the game streams well with it's silly factor.

My one fear isn't the destruction ... it's the modes in MP. I really hope that mode has the competitive draw to keep you in there.

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
From the sound of it, seems Sumo was inspired by the Nemesis system in SoM for the gang interactions. Hope it holds up and is good as they are saying in interviews.

It definitely strikes me as a less character-focused, but more reactive, version of Shadow of Mordor's system, yeah. It'll be interesting to see how many subfactions there are and what it looks like when you manage to really cheese off all of them.

The game definitely looks a LOT better than that terrible E3 showing, but I keep getting the feeling its dev time (4 years) doesn't reflect the quality this game should have.

While it looks like a load of fun, it looks like the animations could be better. Feels like it may be unpolished.

Mixed feelings about this, because I loved the first game.

For all the things the trailer didn't show properly of the game it did highlight the animation system taking into account the weight of the body when turning.

But like other games (like Ryse and Recore) the "bad" animations are also what makes the gameplay responsive, the way they should be really. It really makes the difference when you are playing and visually it doesn't bother that much when you are in control.

Looking better but im still having a hard time with those animations. I understand the 1st game had this, it was annoying even then but i reluctantly tried to ignore it, it did bring the game down imo . 3rd game now, that twichy moonwalk-skating destroys the feeling of heaviness and power.

The boost jump, theres no momentum to it, you just move forward faster, theres no feeling of propulsion or transition in weight, its recycling the jump animation! Compared to something like Athem, which illustrates power & agility perfectly.

Im not expecting this level of detail, but please put some effort in Sumo, it looks half arsed.

My thoughts exactly.

By the way are there any 4k videos out for this?

I'm so excited for this game. With everything they've shown, it seems like it will be a lot closer to CD1 instead of CD2. Crackdown 2 was cool, but it was rushed, the city was reused and the end game powers/vehicles circumvented the design tenants of the franchise itself.

Quick poll:

How many of you mastered the SUV wall driving technique? Driving up the tallest skyscraper was one of the best video game feelings ever.

Watching the stream of Crackdown 3 and this looks WAY better than what they showed at E3. Why not show this type of gameplay on the biggest stage in gaming? I just don't get it.

I know I'm pretty crazy, but I just love the art style in Crackdown 3 so much more than the new spiderman game coming out. I'll even go as far as saying this looks more fun to me. Crazy I know but there you go.

The problem I have with Spider-man is that it looks so... generic in terms of visuals. Insomniac seemingly sacrificed style for graphical fidelity.

Sunset City from SO was so gorgeous and varied in comparison. Then again, they are limited by the Spider-man licence where as Sunset Overdrive was a new IP.

Wow what a turn around. I'm actually glad that the campaign (eventually) got a chance in the light, but they should have handled the approach to presentation much better.

Folks were really looking forward to seeing the destruction. I think things would have went over if there were 1) a better trailer and 2) an earlier announcement that e3 would be all about the campaign.

Well duh!

Crackdown was always about the no nonsense pure gameplay sandbox. Jump in and take on the game however you want, and have a blast doing it. Sumo have brought it back in all it's glory it seems. If there is a great multiplayer mode too then even better!

The game grows on you quickly
Yes it does!

Oh gosh a second SO would have been so glorious.

Would you believe I never played the first two? That is gonna have to change with 3 though lol.

I really wish Microsoft would port Crackdown 1 & 2 to PC so I could play them while waiting for this. I've been watching the videos closely, seeing all the refinements they made to the platforming combat and getting extremely hyped. My pessimism is gone now.

I can't understand people who think this looks bad. This looks great.

It definitely looks much better than in the trailer (what a horrible edited mess). But I still think it looks pretty bad overall... everything, from graphics to animation seems too bland. There's nothing that looks good for this generation standards, in my opinion.

Also, there are some pretty bad pop-ups:

Samoa Joe and Austin Creed are playing Crackdown 3 live right now:

It crashes after a few minutes and we see they are playing it on PC there. So they are not showing it on One X there?

Very positive impressions from Ars Technica. They said the driving, in particular, felt really good. Apparently it is Sumo Digital's influence that improved the driving, since they have some racing games under their belt.

Yeah in the footage you can definitely see the cars having weight to them and it looks good. Unlike Sleeping Dogs for example.

Yeah, they confirmed the game on show floor was on PC right off the bat. Other games (Forza) were too.

Footage I'm watching looks good, faith getting restored. Not sure why MS chose that awful E3 trailer to show off this game.

I'll be one of the 37 people who buy this game off the Windows store.

I guess it depends on your expectations. Crackdown is very deliberately not a game that strives for photorealism. It's meant to be a clichéd playable superhero comic, essentially, right down to the cel-shading and just shy of visible 'POW!' and 'BOOM!' callouts.

That's good to hear, I really didn't like the driving in the first game. Coming out the agency tower at full speed, yes! but otherwise it was pretty horrible.

That's a pity with that pop ups but still development time to fix that up if possible. I thought it was just the red icons but there was more appearing. Yuck.

There are a ton of things beyond visuals that this game is likely doing that goes well beyond what was capable on a 360 such as the Size of the City and the AI.

Not to mention we don't yet know the extent of the destructive mayhem in the multiplayer mode which from previous demos goes WELL BEYOND anything last gen. You guys really need to stop judging games by only how they look. There is so much more under the surface.
