Sony: We Held PS4 Exclusives Back from E3 2017

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
The earlier they reveal, the longer we wait till release. I like this way of thinking, holding reveals back. Some of the waits have been too long, like The Last Guardian and Agent. Lol.

TLOU2 should have closed E3 and Arkham Spiderman blowout should have closed PSX last year.
If these had been switched, Sony would have had a very different and more positive reaction to the whole show.

Same with that Death Stranding trailer from the game awards, absolutely wasted there.

Why is it wasted there? It was huge news. Doesn't even have to matter where/when it was announced. It was a megaton.

SP game sounds far along
Greg Miller asks about Sucker Punch and that Shuhei told him 2 years ago that he had already played their game. Shuhei, while laughing, says that he has played it many, many more times since. He stops himself mid-sentence before revealing too much about it
.

I really thought that Bluepoint was working on this, since it's apart of the Souls family and many PS4 owners (well a decent amount anyway) didn't have a PS3 to play it. It seemed like a slam dunk to bring that over.
Now that Bluepoint is off the table who would even work on it?
Didn't FromSoftware say they would flat out not work on a remaster? Is it something Japan Studios might work on?
I really hope it's something they can reveal at PSX, along with the next From Software game.
The next Fromsoft IP 99% won't be exclusive and thus has no reason to be shown at PSX. If anything it'll be at E3 or shown off on From's own terms.

Did you hear more now in regards to its exclusivity? End of an era if true, but I trust From to still make great games, exclusive or not.

I didn't ask if it was exclusive or not, but certain things I was told about the title make me have extreme doubts that it would be exclusive to any platform. That's not to say they won't make more exclusives in the future, but in terms of their next ARPG, I really don't think it'll be exclusive. Im only at 99% because I don't have confirmation on that, and while I could ask I don't think they'd give me any concrete answer because that's not the kind of thing they discuss with me.

Good.
I'd say some of these might skip TGS and PSX as well.
You already blew out a lot of your cards, no need to do so at every possible occasion.

Game companies owe it to us to tell us everything they do. Otherwise we'll go into a frenzied panic. Which is their fault.

Also fuck game companies for telling us things they're doing more than a year in advance.
Unless they tell us they're working on Metroid and Pokemon for 2019+. That's dope. But fuck everyone else for pulling that shit.

HStallion

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
It hasn't been mentioned much but I'm surprised Sony/Capcom didn't show off the Resident Evil 2 Remake but perhaps its not far enough along yet or they're saving that for another big surprise at PSX or TGS.

They've showed Knack, GTSport, Uncharted, God of War, Detroit Days Gone, Spiderman, Crash, VR titles and they call that holding back.

+1

They didn't have an full Uncharted or Last of Us for this year. Plus, there was no mention of the Vita and VR wasn't as pronounced as last year.

Sony did their Sony...

This seems pretty obvious to me. Imagine if they did not have any new exclusives for the PSX. There is no point in making such an expensive show without exclusives.

You can laugh it off if you want Shu, but your keynote was a disappointment because you held stuff back for PSX, TGS, and Gamescom. E3 is still the biggest hype generator for the NA (and maybe entire western) market and Sony fucked that up.

If stuff wasn't ready, who cares? Look what a title card did for Nintendo. And if you still don't think the NA market cares about Japanese games, the first half of this year would like to have a word with you.

Lol.

Sony have a release roster strong enough for 1 AAA release per quarter for the next 2.5 years.

When Nintendo & MS can say the same thing maybe the lack of new announcements might be an issue.

As it all these posts are the sound of neophiles crying like children denied a candy.

Are you under an NDA? What certain things makes you think it won't be exclusive?

But what will happen now that they did hold back? What will change because they chose to wait until PSX?

the narrative for them now is that they blew their load at the past 2 E3s, their competition brought new things and Sony barely did

For the past 2 years they've been all about the "roadmap" but suddenly they wanna hold back. Why?

But reading this thread it seems people are okay with Sony being complacent so *shrug*

How are they being complacent? My god they release alot of games already this year with like 5 more to go.

This is such and odd narrative.

There is only a 6 month span between E3 and PSX. That small amount of time isn't going to make a difference. It does give any announcements they hold back more time in the oven and a closer release date though. Which directly combats another narrative about Sony's showings - they announce stuff way too early. There was a nearly 20 page thread about it.

Is 1st qtr 2018 going to be like this year?

If so PSX is going to be bonkers.

Spider-Man
God of War
Detroit
Days Gone

Of course not.

I see no reason to think Spider-Man will be Q1 after the E3 showing simply said "2018", compared to God of War saying "Early 2018". Hell, Days Gone and Detroit didn't even get a release year.

I'll say God of War in March 2018, Detroit in August 2018, and Days Gone/Spider-Man in the first half 2019 (Spider-Man delay).

I really doubt Insomniac and Quantic Dream will miss 2018.

Did we watch the same E3 conference? It was the definition of complacent.
I'd rather have a weak E3 conference than no exclusive games to play for 3 quarters of each year.

Seriously, released games paint an entirely different picture of who is complacent. And having seen Sony's past behavior at other conferences (especially PSX), I have no doubt they have plenty more to show us.

Ideally games shouldn't appear at more than one E3. If they're at a second, they should be releasing later that year.

If they had held off lou2 this e3 would be very different for them.

True. I think they revealed Uncharted Stories with it? They could have kept that at PSX and TLoU2 for this year's E3 but honestly you know this bombshells are coming halfway or at the end of the year.

All's good.

Sony announced more new exclusives at E3 for their console than Nintendo for the Switch or MS for the Xbox, but they're the one that barely brought anything new?

How are they being complacent if they showed more exclusives than anyone else? What exactly do they have to do in order to not be complacent?

because what Sony brought is VR games and casual/party game. it's unfortunate, but many people here or even the video games media don't care about that.

this E3 just solidified my resolve to get PSVR sometime soon.

I've learned that ppl count the games they wanna count, even AAA games sometimes get dismissed

What does "winning E3" even accomplish other than feeding fanboy ego?

Is there sales data that shows sales spikes because of a better conference?

God of War, Days Gone, Detroit, Uncharted Lost Legacy, Horizon DLC, GT Sport, Spider-Man, Knack 2, Matterfall, That's You, Hidden Agenda, Shadow of the Colossus, The Impatient, Moss, StarChild, Everybody's Golf, Crash.

They showed a ton of games, including good VR support. That's not complacent, especially when you look all the stuff they already released in the past six months or so. They have more shows this years, so of course they're holding back some titles.

Those don't count because they weren't new major games.
