Good. I don't want 2D Metroid in these conditions.

Lol "you should be thankful".

Fuck no, they are not doing people a "favor".

Then you can't complain if/when Metroid goes on another decade-long hiatus because that's all boycotting Samus Returns will do.

I'm amazed so many people are seeing fans not want to buy this game and, instead of getting mad at Nintendo making a product that consumers don't want to buy, they get mad at the consumers who don't want to buy a product.

That's some level of either delusion or corporate fanboyism I hadn't expected to see.

Why not both? I'm mad at Nintendo and because of that I won't buy the Amiibo despite previously wanting to. I can also call out people who think Nintendo can magically read minds by way of sales figures.

Vote with your wallet by boycotting amiibo, not by not buying the game. Not buying the game won't send the message abouy amiibos. It will tell nintendo you don't want more metroid. Is it that hard to understand?

I'm not paying a company for the sake of having them make more things for me to pay for. That is absurd.

How is it delusional? It's only delusional to think boycotting the game will send the message to nintendo that people don't want amiibos. It will tell nintendo people don't want more metroid.

And if I buy it, it tells Nintendo that this shit is okay. That people don't care about the locked content and they can continue to push this shit into other games.

Holy fuck there really is a defense force for everything.

You say that, but if EA tied ultimate team players to figurines the backlash would be fucking incredible. Nintendo seem to get a free pass for some reason.

Want Ronaldo in your ultimate team? Well better buy one of these then:

I think the whole Amiibo game experience is horrible. Looking for a physical object to unlock something for a piece of gaming software is a terrible user experience.

If you're really against this though, and everything Amiibo-related, you can always get an Amiiqo which emulates the signal from the NFC chips from the Amiibo.

I'm not sure if this would be considered piracy here though, but it's way to go around this very shitty practice if you end up buying the game and want the hard mode.

I'm against game piracy but these will most likely be hard to find from the get go like most amiibo. :lol

Welp, there goes my purchase. From the first time I saw these stupid little statues,I knew that this moment was coming, and here we are. Man, who'd have thought that Nintendo of all companies would be leading the charge on shitty DLC practices?

Well, we wanted Nintendo to modernize.

So you'd rather samus returns not have been made at all over it being made with a shitty physical dlc included? A francise that has had multiple underperforming games, that hasn't had a 2d entry in over a decade, that is being praised by early impressions for how great of a remake it is, but yeah fuck this game it deserves to bomb for physical dlc.

I'm not telling you to spend your money on this game if you think this practice breaks the camels back for you, but you can't then turn around and say "why isn't Nintendo making more metroid games" if it underperforms.

if it underperforms because of this bullshit then it's Nintendo fault because they're the one responsible for it.

I mean a developer can choose what is DLC versus not, and Nintendo has already done this with Zelda.

And people have the right to call them for this.

To all those that defend this don't you realize Nintendo locked hard mode behind amiibo precisely because it would make that amiibo more desirable? You think Nintendo did not know what their doing?

How many metroid games included a hard mode that changed up the mechanics of how the game played? How many Metroid games included a hard mode period? How many of those metroid games that had a hard mode did you actually replay on hard mode?

Can't speak for Gear, but I've played and finished the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the hardest difficulty more than once. There's no way around this being a shitty move by Nintendo. "B-but you wouldn't have played it anyway!" is a terrible excuse.

So its a DLC mode.

Its shitty but thats 2017 sadly.

I hate dlc but it's not going away. The issue is not that Nintendo does dlc, infact MK8 dlc was quite good. The issue is that they're tying it behind physical figures that are hard to find, and not everyone wants.

Just give people an option of buying it on the eShop.

Sooo, I remember a few years ago GAF had a pretty big freak out over the amount of viral marketers on this board when the Xbone was announced.

Has anyone ever looked into that for Nintendo here though? I'm sure there's plenty of fans here who are OK with this move and more power to them.

What gets me suspicious is the amount of people defending this and trying to outright guilt trip people into supporting this bullshit.
Last time I saw this behaviour was with the Xbone reveal.

Not really. If you buy it, youre telling nintendo ypu bought a metroid game. If you boycott the amiibo, you're telling nintendo you don't want amiibos. That's a simpler breakdown. If the game sells bad, nintendo will just assume "oh, people arn't interested in metroid afterall." They aren't going to go on gaf and see people saying that it's because of the amiibos.

You mean before or after Prime 4? :)

Will "help" do, because even with the reception I doubt MP4 will sell gangbusters (MP1, 2 and 3 didn't). If Nintendo sees that neither the budget option (an outsourced 3DS remake) or the expensive option (an in-house AAA Switch game) does well they won't think about their Amiibo strategy they'll think about their Metroid strategy.

It doesn't even need to be free, just let people buy it as a DLC without the hassle of searching for amiibos.

So its a DLC mode.

Its shitty but thats 2017 sadly.

Can people stop using years as a reason for things?

Nintendo wants money, they don't care.

Lol, it will only get worse. They know hardcore fans love amiibos and will pay lots of money for them. It's one of the worst practices I can think of in the industry. Taking Capcom's on-disc locked DLC to a whole other level.

I respect the hustle though. Lots of profit from these toys.

Best wishes.

Lmao, good point. The extent to which people will justify companies screwing them over just because they make unnecessary products they like is kinda terrifying. We're living in the lamest kind of cyberpunk future.

Don't forget guys. We literally begged Nintendo for a proper Metroid for awhile now... I really don't get where all the hostility is coming from, or why "Fusion Mode" is even being called "Hard Mode". Fusion is the easiest game in the entire series. And dont forget. The only way you could unlock the Fusion Suit in the original Metroid Prime, was buy owning Fusion, a GBA and a special cable. This is nothing compared to that. The majority of you probably already own the Smash Amiibo. And if you truely call yourselves Metroid fans, you would want the others as well. Just saying.

If you had bought the Xbone in its initial reveal form you would have also bought the shitty DRM practices

If you buy Samus Returns you don't magically buy the Amiibo as well.

But, yeah, they're the exact same and we're all paid shills. I'm gonna go collect my check tomorrow.

Selling a difficulty mode as DLC is just as shitty. At least DLC can't be undershipped.

How many people are buying 3DS games nowadays? As shitty as this is I don't think the fraction of people that want to play the extra difficulty are that much bigger than the amiibo stock.

What’s the difference between that and offering it only as paid DLC? Amiibos, especially these Metroid ones, are awesome.

Amiibo's have limited quantities, can be undershipped, they may be sold out or out of production and become rare and cost $100+ for one ammibo.

Paid DLC is infinite quantities with a set price/discounts.

Amiibo are the most evil form of paid DLC ever conceived of.

Just under three years and now they've finally decided for me that I need to get 100 NFC tags. Fine by me, no more money for them if this is the way they want more of my money.

I can't defend this IF it is all true.

People here are desparate for this series to stay alive after no 2d metroid for 13 years. These aren't nintendo reps. You have to understand. If you don't get samus returns, nintendo isnt going to see that it's because of the amiibos.

Some of us don't want these shitty plastic figurines. It's a wasteful and unnecessary method of content delivery.

Paid DLC >>>>>>>>>>> stupid plastic trash.

Guilt tripping people? Really? Ayy lmao.

Calling Amiibo physical DLC is putting it nicely. At least traditional DLC is available to everyone. I'd call it limited quantity content.
