Mr Plinkett reviews Ghostbusters (2016)

Pretty much how I feel. Great break down of why it didn't work. It wouldn't matter who they cast. They had a good list of talent. But nothing for them to work with. Too demanding of how much they asked them to improv. No cohesive ideas for the story and a director without any sort of grasp on the source material.

Just hope we don't have to wait another five years for another plinkett.

Seriously, i'll be happy with one a year with this quality.

You don't get to bring friends.
Good to see Mr. Plinkett review as I find that he notices those little things like the crew in the behind the scenes of filming.

I mentioned this in the RLM OT but after a while I found it hard to tell what was the original edit of the movie vs what Mike or Jay over-editing of the cast talking over each other/improv

Video was good, I'm glad they didn't really focus on the female angle or bitched about feminism or something.

The Plinkett edit vs original edit where he just cuts out all the pointless dialogue was amazing. The importance of letting scenes breathe was really highlighted well in the review. The zoom ins on random crew member of the behind the scenes footage had me rolling. This was my favorite Plinkett review since the star wars prequels.

I mean, the movie was bad, but this is the 4th... 5th video they've done on it now?

the other videos besides half in the bag were trolling the audience members that reacted as they did after their half in the bag.

Similar to how they kept trolling fans after the rogue one review and the reactions.

But, let's me honest. The real reason Mike loves the first Ghostbusters film so much and hates this new one is because Mike believes in ghosts. The first Ghostbusters took ghosts seriously and treated them as real. This new 2016 version did not. Also, there was that ghost sex scene, and it's obvious Mike envisions himself in that situation getting to fuck a ghost. Mike believes in ghosts, he wants to sleep with a ghost, and any movie that detracts from this is a bad movie to him. Never forget he used to watch all those reality TV paranormal shows, and probably masturbated to them.

this is the third video they've done about the film itself, and there's been a decent stretch of time since their last video

I've got 4 by my count.

We've got 2 reviews, 1 video that's a lengthy breakdown of the cultural reaction to the movie, and one trailer response.

They've got a real bone to pick with this movie.

This makes so much sense!

... I thought it might have been a bit redundant, as made evident by my post?

What's with the defensiveness over me pointing out how many videos they've made about this movie?

But did you watch it? It's not redundant at all. It covers several things that weren't in earlier reviews.

primarily because prior to this thread we had an announcement thread to hype people up and it ended up boiling down to people saying how RLM is shitty, discussing some of their controversial statements from the past, and it eventually turned into 3-4 posters just using the thread as their playground to the point a mod had to come in and say on both that thread and this that if you want to participate in the thread you should at the very least watch the video.

If you watch the video you'd see he brings up points they haven't really made in the other videos which were like early thoughts on focusing more on the drama surrounding the film vs the film itself.

Welp, I certainly wasn't one of the people persecuting that thread. I've been watching the video too.

I'm simply pointing out that this is their third video analyzing the same movie. It's noteworthy.

Ya'll need to relax. It's a YouTube review about the Ghostbusters remake.

It's their 3rd analysis of the same movie...?

I'm not dying on this hill. I'm just making a basic observation here. No need to get this bent out of shape about it.

im not bent out of shape, it's just obvious you didn't watch the video and yet claim it's redundant

What is up with this guy's voice and delivery and why the hell is this video an hour long?

It's long form film criticism (with jokes) and he's playing a character that's been established in this format for many years. It can be weird and off-putting, but if you can roll with it there's some good stuff.

Great review. Plinkett is always great, even when I like the movie he critiques, its hard not to agree or refute points he makes. I'm surprised GAF liked this episode, I remember the reaction threads last year defending the movie.

Its a perfect example of almost everything wrong in Hollywood right now. Especially with Sony Pictures.

... Jesus, I've watched all their Ghostbusters 2016 videos and am mid-viewing of this one.

You need thicker skin on this subject matter. Honestly.

If you watch the video you'd see he brings up points they haven't really made in the other videos which were like early thoughts on focusing more on the drama surrounding the film vs the film itself.

I legitimately don't understand this sentence. Can you retype it?

They made a video focusing on the controversy about the movie a year ago and a separate video that was about the film itself. I don't think you're making a sound argument here on how someone can't proclaim this video seeming a bit redundant.

but the other videos aren't really analyzing to this level though. We had a half in the bag discussing their early thoughts after watching it, and other various troll videos. This is an actual review to the similar vein of his other plinkett videos which go much more in depth on his thoughts over the film itself.

edit: and yes it also shits on Sony pictures a bit.

It's their media output- they can put out 6 more videos if they feel passionate enough about it.

The original is one of the producers favorite films, so yeah, he feels compelled to express his disappointment in the shitty remake.

I would say this is the 1st analysis of the film. Previously there was an analysis of the furor surrounding sexist youtube comments for the original trailer. Before that there was a regular review of the film.

They spent a lot of time with it because Mike and company really love the original. This film really pissed them off. Drafting off the backlash to it probably helped.

Edit: one of those is a trailer "review" making fun of trailer reviews. Not really the same as the others.

They had at least as many videos for The Force Awakens, and they loved that movie.

Oh of course. I am in no way complaining about the number of videos.

I'm merely pointing out that I think they have a real bone to pick with this movie if we're at their 4th video about the movie, 3 of which were some form of analysis.

They've said many times, even long before this abomination existed, that Ghostbusters 1 is one of their favorite movies. That, plus the reboot is pure trash that deserves to be skewered.

Well, it's not redundant. It's probably the most thorough video takedown of the movie out there, at least that I'm aware of.

They've made two other videos that total somewhere around 1 hour of analysis about this movie, which is my entire observation. They've covered the same ground, IE, reviewing Ghostbusters 2016 and commenting on the gestation of it.

They've done a considerable amount of videos for Ghostbusters 2016.

They do have a bone to pick with the movie. Which is why they're picking it. :p

Oh, and they certainly do, and that's clearly obvious. I guess everyone here assumes the reason to point out said obvious is to suggest they have malicious intent beyond critiquing a shitty film.

they most definitely have a bone to pick. Particularly Mike, the voice of Plinkett.

But this isn't any different to the back to back videos they made after Rogue One. They also just did like 3-4 videos for Transformers where fans expected them to watch the films and instead they opted to just troll the fans by having the videos be a black screen with transformers sex noises.

They are petty when they dislike a film and there is negative backlash over their opinion or refusal to acknowledge said film.

That's cool.

They had yet to do a Plinkett video on it, so here we are. It's good. How do you feel about the actual content of the video? I think that's a more fruitful discussion than lamenting the existence of the video, something which can never be undone.

I really don't think they'll bother, but I hope you're right.

They love taking down Sony trash but even that's a little too easy of a target.
