Despacito is the top YouTube video.. that doesn't make it a great song. Same with PUBG too. It is popular cos Streamers love it and often show the salt and rage. Audience love salt and buy something trendy. PUBG is the epitome of how social media can hype a game. Not to mention it is still early access and don't argue it is the first of its kind. I have the game too FYI.
What is with people saying the dumbest shit regarding this game? They can't help themselves.

Wtf is this shit. PUBG derangement syndrome running wild in here. Actually owning the game doesn't make the claim that the game is all hype no substance any less ridiculous.

Not my type of game but I love success stories like this. It could end up selling 20-30 million copies long term which is just crazy from it's budget / marketing point of view compared to something like GTA V.

There aren't any survival mechanics like hunger or thirst, it's basically just deathmatch.

Nah, survival aspects are literally:
1. Do I have health? If not, heal up
2. Ammo count
3. Space (you pick up backpacks to increase your space)

That's it. Also you can boost your energy with painkillers/energy drinks to get health regen and a speed boost.

Wait, how is it different from PUBG, then?

False, people play it because it's a great, fun game. Streaming has jackshit to do with it. Streaming doesn't make games have the phenomenal constant increase in active concurrent userbase like this for several months. I guarantee you that wouldn't happen if the game wasn't a great, fun game, that people love to play.

They are literally describing PUBG. I think there is some sort of miscommunication going around lol. There is no DayZ mode. Someone was comparing it to the PvP aspects of DayZ.

Ohh, ok, got it. It's just part of the game, not a separate PVP mode.

Ehhhh Twitch kinda does. Don't for a second underestimate the beast. But i agree if the game was garbage it wouldnt get top views; however, a "decent" game can be pushed easily to a hype-inflated frenzy via the big streamers.

You get it with every game. I've seen it in every OT from Drawn 2 Death to Destiny. As long as there is one person who cares about a game there will be another there to shit on it.

Best to ignore 'em

Every popular game gets streamed, and every stream adds to a games popularity. It's completely ridiculous to single out streams for this game as if they somehow discredit its success.

For example, Breath of the Wild was "hype inflated" (aka had good word of mouth) and popular on streams (aka popular), does that somehow take away from BotW being a good game?

People start playing because of exposure (Twitch, Youtube, Reddit, etc). They don't keep playing it because that, though.

Huh didn't know I put 50 hours into this game so far just because Twitch made me.

I actually thought I was enjoying the game.

PUBG is popular because of social media hype? Can we say that popular console games are popular due to advertisement?

It's popular because it is a good game. If offers fun time to both casuals and invested players, with incredible potential for both fun stuff and highly tactical play [and everything in between].

Well that's different. Large corporations telling me what I should like is much more pure than my friends telling me about cool stuff.

All this talk about getting banned for harassment and stream sniping is holding me back.
People are reporting that they are being falsely accused of these things? These reports are pretty high in number. Doesn't seem like a lot of these people were being dicks on purpose.

All this talk? Theres like 9+ million players atm, how many of those have been banned? How many have been reported for you to consider it high?

There are also a lot of stream-snipers so the problem for big name streamers is real.

Yeah I don't think it's in any way offensive to say that Twitch has boosted the success of the game. That in itself isn't claiming the game to be bad. I often hear "Twitch and Youtube is free advertising for a game" and "it boosts the sales" when talking about pubs forbidding or restricting what streamers and tubers can show about the game. But when people say this about PUBG it's suddenly all bullshit? Come on now.

Does it matter what the ratio is? It's not about the numbers obviously, it's about the mods giving off the impression that they will favour some streamer over the accused snipers and/or harasser. Being accused because some streamer said so? Fuck that noise.

All this talk is like, 2 threads on GAF... in 5 months, in a 9M player game

You won't be banned for either unless you actually do them. People saying that are just the usual internet mob that got pissed when people got rightfully done for being assholes so they started making up bans that didn't exist.

No, played with children for two months and then they move onto the next game.

See also: DayZ, H1Z1.

So you mean like... every game that isn't Dota 2 or WoW?

Anyway thanks for your hot take on the video game it was really fun to read please don't forget to like comment and subscribe

I've heard a few times now that the game runs like shit in a full game no matter the setup? This true?

And apparently the lag can be bad as well?

What a hilariously dumb comment, since the userbase has been constantly growing every single day after release without ever, ever slowing down.
Also hilarious to reference H1Z1, which is still one of the most played games on Steam.

Game seems to be laggy right at the start of the match if you are not on an SSD.

I usually get between 75-50fps on a 1060 medium settings at 1080p.

Ran like garbage on my machine, but my machine is 6 years old and was only mid-upper at the time. Seems to be poorly optimized for lower end machines.

Seems to run fine on newer machines, though.

Ofcourse it matters, if there has been 1-2 cases thats an infinitely small % of the playerbase and worrying about it is utterly irrational.

Also you mean the mods that banned their biggest streamer over a TK?

And uh... you are per definition "accused" if a streamer accuse you of it. I guess you mean banned, but thats why I asked what "all this talk" means because that would make it sound like it happens every week. Which simply isn't the case from my experience. I play squads with some 20-25 different people and nobody ever worries about this happening. (and we have had a few kills on streamers, one member even got called "an animal" by a streamer, obviously his proudest moment, even over becoming a dad)

Looking at the subreddit and searching for stream sniping and posts for the last week gives 0 instances of anyone being banned for it, rather it gives a bunch of posts where people discuss how to get rid of stream snipers because its a real problem.

The problem is that if any drama happens around a game reddit and steam reviews tends to get flooded with bullshit that vastly overstate the problem.

LOL
"PUBG is going strong only because of Twitch and it will pass because it's another bad game" is the new "Destiny 2 looks like a DLC"

It's really difficult to know where to start with posts as objectively ridiculous as this. Are you just trolling? You understand that the latter two of those games were massively mismanaged by their developers causing players to move on, right?

Children? I don't want to go all "takes one to know one" here but this post has me wondering if you could have presented yourself in a way that comes across less childish and uninformed that it already does and it's not coming to me short of using leetspeak or something.
