I got this strange feeling that a lot of money exchanged hands left/right for this game.
Not sure why but just a hunch as it was down in the dirt then suddenly it's almost godlike status when in reality it's still the same.
Something just feels off in the way it's being praised, not to shit on the game but it stands out a bit too much.

same bullshit
In the last few years, the fashion has moved away from overly familiar pissed-off mid-30s white-man protagonists. A young woman is the star of The Last of Us Part 2. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey featured a woman as an (optional) protagonist. Gears 5will star a woman. Even Battlefield 5 made the effort to subvert narrative shooter protagonist norms.

Sony Bend stayed with straight, white Deacon St. John, but has softened him.

To add to that I've also seen some on this forum called his looks that of a douche and hoping to change outfits.
Quite strange as it was the same with the inFamous: SS character back then, IMO it looks more like someone you'd come across in everyday life.
Ah well good thing my purchases aren't based on what others think.

When was it down in the dirt? It's always looked promising.

That was the impression I got reading the responses in the threads after it's initial showing and media coverage.
TLoU clone, looks generic and bla bla bla and held that position since then, now suddenly it's super great according to pretty much all previews.
I find it funny hence my remark about money as it stands out like a sore tooth, but whatever really.

That was the impression I got reading the responses and can be re-traced from the threads that spawned after it's initial showing.

You don't judge a game by forum users. LOL. Most of the media were optimistic and just pointed out a couple of things that needed sorting out, like the framerate. Other than that it's been positive. These previews are exactly in line with what I expected. I said around 80 - 85 on metacritic and it's looking about right.

ou also do not or should not judge games based on "journalists".

People who played it I think at Pax came out very positive and thought it was fun. They had 2 different modes. The survival one in which you kill tons of zombies in a pit? and a story part.

IIRC IGN did a video / interview about that didn't they?

Solid previews, they usually don't mean much as most of the time they are positive, even for bad games, but I'm expecting good things from this one.

a solid game coming. anyone who expect a crackdown should read the previews.
Meh!, good previews, it's all well and good.... Perhaps a solid rated game (say low-mid 80's)......The question is "will you have FUN though"...?.....Those highly rated games are not normally half as fun as some lower rated games.....hear...

Or maybe the delay gave the devs enough time to continue working on the game.

I kinda wish the politic deal didn't have to pop up in every thread, but I get it. Journalist Person said it, so it gets discussed.

Just tends to dominate the discussion once it inevitably gets sparked in any given gaming topic.

I miss the simpler times.

I still think this will be better than RDR2 but it won’t garner the same scores due to not having Rockstars name on it.

Well if Anthem should have taught us anything, pre-release coverage is not to be trusted. That said, I actually think Bend just may have quietly turned the ship around while everyone was busy writing this game off.

I’m not gonna let some odd “he’s a white guy” comments bother me. Really has nothing to do with the game, just some writer trying to snag some spotlight

I agree. Nowadays it feels more like they're deperate for attention by throwing those words.

To be fair it could have been in the same ballpark, the earlier bunch of previews were lukewarm.

Nothing like a racist disguised as a diversity expert. I'm putting them in my block list.

It's the easiest degree you can get, all you need is grade two math (count all the way to 10, then substrat points for every white characters you see, especially if they don't have a good explanation for their existence, or they were originally a women who transitioned, especially if they were a black woman who was forced to transition to white dude in order to gain white male privilege! See I could write a great scenario!).

Same goes for NPCs, they should represent all human populations, no matter when and where the game takes place. Every time you speak to someone, they should start the conversation by telling you which pronoun you should use when referring to them, a deep explanation of their sexual preferences, then proceed to tell you how to get to next town.

Now I don't read that kind of content from any of the big media outlets, it's just too cringy to read their social "analysis", they often jump the gun, and it feels out of place.

Most YouTubers are better, however, those who specialize on political commentary to oppose the SJW crowd often have their own problems, so yeah, it's not like we can just all read EGM and be happy.

I'm finding it really hard to get hype for this game knowing TLOU2 exists. It's almost like I don't wanna fill up on appetizers when the main course is on it way.

I would love to see internet nerds go up to a 1%'er and say they look like a douche.

:pie_invert:

And if they're talking about his face, then all they did was model Sam Witwer (the actor) and put them in, just like The Force Unleashed.

Apart from being post-apocalyptic, and featuring zombies (I'm sorry, "freakers" and "infected" - it's totally different, innit?) I don't see the similarities. This seems to be more of a traditional contemporary open-world game, whereas I expect TLOU2 to be still a more linear experience (whether it be "wide linear" like UC4).

Having said that, the previews are looking good. I'll wait for the reviews, but if they're decent, I'll pick this up.

I think it's the zombies overall...like...i think im burnt out on playing zombie games. Resident Evil, COD: Zombies. Like if I'm gonna play a zombie game this year, it should be the best Zombie game.

Apart from that I suppose there are some other things I'm a bit concerned about. I've seen a lot of the story elements but what I really wanted to play this game for was the 1 vs 500 zombie experience. That World War Z type scenario where you're running from a horde. Is this still in the game? I feel like I've asked this before.

Uhh, yeah? That's like one of the main selling points of the game, if you're so inclined. This is from PAX South, so an old build, but to give you an idea.

40 hordes!

So many games. So little time

One of the more critical previews of Days Gone:

Interesting.

Couple thoughts:

He seemed eager to prove already skeptical view on the game heading into his preview event, which sounds pretty cool by the way

Says he doesn’t like, or avoids, the new Far Cry games and Assassin Creed games. I haven’t played FC in awhile but the last two AC games were freaking great, sorry

Keeps comparing the lack of production value in Days Gone to “Sony standards.” Is he referencing God of War solely?

Don't really know of any PS Exclusives that are a massive fail so I'm going to still give my hopes up on this one! It looks good!

But it's still a Sony exclusive, so it kinda has the same free card.

I admit I haven't seen the new trailers yet as I'm at work, but I saw a lot of footage last year, where this game looked like a very unpolished indie game. From the view of the replies though, it sounds like that's changed.

The game has always looked good to me. I was hyped about it since its first reveal. Day one for me, No Regerts!

Don't think this game was ever portrayed as down in the dumps. The problem was Sony themeselves making it seem that way. Game was announced years ago, yet gamers never saw much of anything except some trailers and demo vids that showed the same kind of stuff...... that scene with Deacon running away from zombies and he shoots them and triggers traps.

Game comes out next month and there's still hardly any info.

But maybe now, the floodgates will open up.
