My take….
it’s a live action remake .. which will be trash by default..
Under the new operations at Disney It would have probably been thrown to Disney+ like Peter Pan if they didn’t make such a big deal out of it before.
Just like the other live action remakes Disney will keep the animation as the main look of the character on all merchandise and what not.
Most important:
If this movie means I see more little mermaids at Halloween from all walks of life then it’s more than anyone could ask of a trash live action remake .

I don't believe that, and the fact that you just pointed to another comment section that would be filled with criticism doesn't help your argument. It's EVERYWHERE on that little mermaid trailer. Comment after comment of nothing else, until you sort by the latest posts, which are almost universally negative.
I don't trust that this is organic. There would be at least a few comments upvoted like crazy with very specific, original, and funny insulting comments, like any other video. You tube comments can be like a caption contest in that respect. But with THIS there's nothing of the sort? First you tube gave companies a way to hide the dislikes from a mass audience, and I believe this is now what they're doing with the comments sections. At the very least, they're removing any genuinely funny popular criticism and only leaving this garbage, but I think they're filling it with this crap themselves.

I am very confused as to what you are talking about now.
I am on about the comments that go "I like the part where Han Solo tells Sebastian 'come with me if you want to live" (or some shit, I just made this up). The meme is that Hollywood is increasingly getting more outlandish with the whole "subversion of expectations" and people are calling them out. You think Disney and other corporations are willingly ratioing their own promo material and have "bots" come up with disparaging meme comments? How does that make any sense? Unless you have a reading comprehension issue which might explain your earlier post. For the record: these are not comments praising the trailer lol. On the contrary.
The reason you see so many of those "I like the part when" comments is because, in the case of that Mermaid trailer, one point four million people disliked the video and that's just an estimate by the dislike plug-in so it could be much higher even. People are fed up and are partaking in some wholesome memeing.

What you see as disparaging comments, I see as nothing specific. Just a sea of nonsense that prevents any actual discussion of the product being sold, and also hides a vast majority of negative comments. I think any company would rather see a wall of "I like the part where King Kong said 'I'll have what she's having" rather than comment after comment of people saying the movie looks terrible, that Disney ruined a classic, that they're canceling their Disney subscription and subscribing to HBO Max, ect. Or the alternative is they could turn off the comments section, which would certainly result in bad PR and articles being written about the fact that they did that. It's too much of a beneficial situation over the alternatives. With that being the case, I believe at least some of this is manufactured and / or very heavily curated.

However this meme transcends that by simply pointing out how utterly vapid and ridiculous the entertainment overlords have become, something that everyone can get behind, with these absurdist and ironic takes. It's smart way of calling attention to the decline we've seen over the past decade or more with regards to entertainment media.

To me, this would have been the PERFECT use of "Roger Rabbit" style blending of live action and 2D animation. These are kids films, so the whimsy would have worked, you'd get all the emotion, and you wouldn't need to even redesign these iconic characters. The "animal mascot" is such an elemental part of Disney films like, to render them in photo realistic style is horrifying.

I think because that's advertising fraud. This kind of meme template makes it easy for a comment to be generated and there's less liability since spam victims would be Disney themselves and YouTube and they wouldn't sue themselves. And this fools normies who then also engage and comment in the same meme format which mixes with the bot comments which then obfuscates the bots.

My last word: I think you were right.
Reading the article, I don't think the writers were using "emasculating" in the same context you are. They were referring to putting the male characters into situations where they might act unheroically. From a comedy perspective this is pretty common, hell, you could consider Arnie in Junior, Kindergarten Cop, or Jingle all the Way to be "emasculated" in a similar way because he is defying the strong male role for COMEDIC effect.
This is different that having all the males be constantly rescued by women, never take initiative, and being, in general, a passive beta cuck.

Which is exactly what it is. They cast Captain Kirk, but in this he’s a fast talking former spy-rogue (well a Bard) who along with his Chewbacca (Barbarian) sidekick and a not-Luke (So-so Sorcerer) and a wild shape Druid is trying to rescue his daughter from the Lando (con man) who double crossed him. The movie is an action comedy and is funny as hell. As much as I want Drizzt, I want a whole line of sequels with this cast and they can have the TV series focus on Drizzt.

Nah mulan was way worse. Atleast the lion king kept the themes of the original.
Mulan kept the name of the main character.
That was it.
The story about a normal girl finding herself in a threatening scenario and challenging gender conventions became about mary sue who is better than you at everything

Almost all of them have made over a billion dollars... My favorite one has been Aladdin. Beauty and the Beast is a close second.
No doubt. Its so weird because something that big usually has a tangential appearance in my life. I have a diverse circle of contacts IRL and I volunteer/coach kids. Never hear anything about these movies.
Damn, now you make me want to see a gender flipped Mulan where a GUY has to impersonate his SISTER when the town has to provide a woman for the Emperors harem. The guy dresses in drag and has to constantly deflect sexual advances from the Emperor, fake being female when exposed to the "All women" harem politics (how does he shower? How hard do you hit in a pillow fight? Why doesn't he know about make-up? He learns about the "g-spot", he teaches the girls to act in a direct manner to get what they want, be self-sufficient and not rely on men or just their looks, etc), and, of course, falls in love with one of the other harem girls and has to reveal himself and escape with her.

I'm pretty much over any casting issues at this point because there seems to be so many other things to focus on with this production but just the racial component in the period setting does lend itself to these hot takes. Setting this in a more modern time might have side stepped some of this. More SPLASH, perhaps. Ursula could be an evil supernatural youtube thot that steals her voice to go win some sort of "The Voice" show and Eric is one of the judges rather than antiquated nobility.Obligatory,
