I guess I should have saved my Wii (instead of selling it in a combination frustration over the quality of Skyward Sword/Xenoblade never coming out... and then only a few weeks after I sold it, Xenoblade is announced for NA. Damn you trollin' me Nintendo!), since how am I going to transfer the insane amount of VC shit I purchased to my Wii U now :(

Payback for all the Nintendo trolling you did. :p

But as an answer, you may try contacting Nintendo and seeing what they say. I've heard previously in certain circumstances they are able to put VC stuff on a new Wii console without having the original one with all the content licensed. Like if someone's Wii got stolen or whatever. Might not work but probably worth a few minute phone call.

I think you're SOL in that case :(

My issue is that my Wii has corrupted system files due to a power surge, so I'd have to pay $80 to fix my Wii just to transfer VC games over to Wii U.

Okay so I got good news from my local Toys R Us. They still have basic models for preorder. Unfortunately I cant make it there until tomorrow morning so I'm praying they don't run out in the mean time. This has lifted my spirits on this whole subject though. They'll be closing in a few hours do I'm guessing my chances are pretty good.

It's not trolling when you really feel a certain way and go out of your way to articulate at length why you feel a certain way. I know you ":p"' but I just felt it had to be said, because the fears I had about Wii when the system was releasing pretty much all turned out to be true about the platform.

I am definitely way more positive about Wii U, but I wish they had a transfer system that WASN'T tied to the system itself. I mean when I go to my Nintendo account it shows most of the VC games I ever purchased, but I guess that won't count as proof? That said, it's not a big problem because I doubt I'd play many of the games I had purchased very many times again anyway. Only I'd re-purchase Paper Mario and all of the Zelda games again, but that's it.

I think you're SOL in that case :(

Wii VC compatibility sounds pretty awful on the Wii U anyways. Last I heard there was no tablet support for visuals and you have to start up in "Wii mode" to run the games which sounds like you're running the Wii OS.

well that's ok about the screen controller, because if I'm in my house I'm playing it on the TV. That functionality really has no use for me at all even for the regular games. But the "Wii mode" thing sounds pretty lame. Even VC games need that, not just the disc based games?

"Wii OS" doesn't run while the games are running. Some homebrew guys posted an article on it a while ago, but basically, when Wii boots a game, that game owns 100% of the system. "System-level" features have to be hardcoded and included with every single game (ex., the many different IOS versions that actually make it to that players can interact with the system in the first place.)

So at worst, Wii VC games will be running 100% on the hardware and we won't get the Home menu or anything else without quitting the game (somewhat like playing DS games on a 3DS.)

*grunt*

I guess it's not a big issue to me, since the only games I intend to backplay on my Wii U are Paper Mario VC/Zelda VC titles and Xenoblade (since I missed out when I sold my Wii). Oh, and maybe Last Story despite the middling response to that game.

Maybe slip in Boom Blox and Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 from time to time as well.

Does anyone remember the initial Wii allotment?

I'm suspecting:
NA: 1 million
Europe: 1 million
Japan: 500,000

In NA:

Wii: ~500k launch (~1.1 million all of 2006)
360: ~325-350k launch (~600k all of 2005)
PS3: ~200-250k launch (~700k all of 2006)

I can only find a figure of four million shipped worldwide by the end of 2006. Japan received 400,000 units.
It sold 476K in November 2006 which should be a pretty good approximation of the launch number.

I looked for the December 2006 numbers as well but for some reason I can't find that NPD thread.

Does anyone know if there are still any DX systems still available for pre-order anywhere? I hadn't know about the Nintendo-Amazon feud so I was mistakenly waiting for their pre-orders to start. I have been checking around but everyone seems to be sold out.

There are no DX preorders available anywhere. You'll be lucky to find any basic units available at this point. Lots of stores will tell you to check back in later but I have a strange feeling that you'd end up waiting until the second shipment and who wants to do that?

:/

I actually like the white but, since I am going to buy Nintendoland anyway, it makes more sense for me to buy the DX pack.

I guess I'll keep looking around.

Online you can still pre-order a Basic from GameStop.com or a Basic Bundle from Walmart.com.

The Deluxe, yeah that's sold out pretty much everywhere both online and instores.

Yesterday people were saying the Deluxe bundle kept coming back in stock briefly for a few minutes at Walmart.com throughout the day. If you were quick enough to get it in your cart and go through the checkout process before it sold out again the order went through.

I want to know how they expect people who still have their Wii to do it. Assuming it works just like the 3DS, do they really expect me to hook up the two systems to two separate TVs and keep going between them to get this transfer thing going. How annoying. I thought Nintendo said Wii U is going to account based logins.

No, I am sure that is not how it is going to work. I guess we will know when they announce something.

Why would you need two separate tvs?

The Wii U has its own screen, and as far as we know, can be booted up to the menu without being connected to a TV.

Quick question guys

I preordered from Toys R Us online last week. It said that they would put an autorization hold on my account, I cheked out with paypal. So after a week no activity has happened in my bank account. My paypal account does show the transaction. So is this hold just for closer to the launch or when exactly. I really don't have that amount in my account just now, but by that time I will...Am I screwed?

I preordered at Best Buy and they canceled my preorder because they had a problem with my credit card. I received yesterday an email about that. I'm going to wait on Amazon. They never had a problem with my credit card. We're lucky in Canada that Amazon still sells Nintendo hardware.

I assume that the wii u will have to be in wii mode to do the transfer. That would mean you couldn't use the second screen. I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Paypal typical doesn't do holds. It takes the required amount at the time of purchase and keeps it unless the transaction is canceled. If you don't have the amount in the bank, you may be hit with an overdraft fee.

I doubt it. Itd likely have a separate section of the nand dedicated to Wii, and it would just copy the content over to it in one block, with shortcuts on the Wii U's memory. Its how the 3DS works with DSi Ware.

Do you have any word on how UK pre-orders are going, Rich? I remember you saying you had an ear to the ground with this sort of thing in previous threads.

i am all set for the xfer, we have 2 wii's- a black without GC ports and an original white one with GC ports. and have a deluxe wiiu ordered

one wii does not have ANY VC games(the black one), the other does(and wiiware stuff), we are initially- going to put the wiiu where the black wii is (my son's bedroom) which is hooked up to a 720p tv, and xfer the wii vc games to the wiiu.

then once we get an HDTV for the living room (we have 4 HD tv's in the house, just not one in the living room) the wiiu will go into the living room, the black wii will go back into my son's room and all will be fine. the wiiu in the living room means -barring interference- the gamepad will be <30' from every bed in the bedrooms and ~20' on the first floor from every room- the wiiu will be almost centered in the house when it is in the living room..

Man this year's black friday will be a blood bath for wii u. I would never risk my neck in that shit. but i'll be picking one up in March 2013 for MONSTA HUNTA!!

Just called my Gamestop again for the hell of it to see if there was anyway I could at least get a pre-order in for a Basic. They said that I could, but it would be by way of the good old waiting list. He said if I got on now then there is probably a 50/50 chance of me getting it before Christmas, but they will not know more until launch gets closer. You could hear the frustration in the guy's voice as if he has been dealing with a lot of demand and he suggested that I better get on the list if I want it any time soon. Looks like I'll be heading there shortly. Better than being left high and dry until next year some time.

No link, but the second month was about 604K.

I don't see why that would be. It's not like there's any existing Wii->Wii transfer ability it would be using.

I thought for VC transfers all you needed was an SD card in the Wii to load everything on and then transfer it to the U via the SD.

Pretty sure Im unable to do it since my Wii is Homebrewskied. Dont really care anyway. The Wii is gonna get boxed up with all my VC content on it and I have no problems re buying necessary classics like Chrono Trigger and Super Metroid again for the U. Shit, I've owned those games like a dozen times anyway so what's one more?

Not defending Nintendo or anything but, doesn't your TV have more than one input? I still have my old CRT from 2005 and it has the components. I would have assumed I could just switch inputs to do the transfer.

Is everybody here thats just now trying to preorder is like legitly late like you didnt have the funds? Or is this a Oh shit lemme find one or just straight up clueless as to when you could of preorder?
