Wait on the Winter sale, IMO.
Will do. I'm in no hurry to play it, to be honest.

$5 each, right? Not even Tony could get all that for five bucks, lol.

Any Point n' Click games on sale or going on sale soon?

I assume several will be discounted as part of the Autumn Sale, which should start in ~1.5 weeks.

I don't plan on spending much during the Autumn Sale. The LucasArts' stuff I'm missing (I don't trust Disney to keep the games around), any Capcom Dailies (you can't be sure when they'll go on sale again), and a few indies here and there should do me. The Christmas Sale is just six'ish weeks away, so it'd be wiser to show some restraint and wait on anything I don't immediately want... unless they show up as Daily/Midweek/Weekend Deals during the non-sale interim.

I don't know why, but Cities in Motion completely grabbed me by the balls over the last 3 days. I can't really put my finger on why I have found it so addicting, but I wasted 9 hours of my day off today playing it.

So, just started playing RAGE - got everything maxed out, but can't turn on the Texture Detail option because an pop-up is telling me that I don't have the sufficient cores for it.

i5-3570k/660ti

Game is locked at 60fps and plays smoothly. However, I am not impressed with the textures. There's even some texture pop-in with the Texture Cache option set to Large. Tweaked some settings - looks alright to me.

Funny you mention that, cause this Friday's Amazon/Gamespot PC DD deal is $10 for the following THQ games:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Metro 2033
Red Faction Guerrilla
Homefront
Red Faction Armageddon
Space Marine

All redeemable on Steam
I need to stop buying games anywhere but Amazon. Just bought Space Marine a few days ago for like $5. :/

I'm still wondering how long these good DD deals will last from Amazon.
Since if it's anything like the Video Game Credit they used to offer sooner or later it's going right back to sucking over there.

Mothership Zeta down. It was kinda fun, more of a dungeon than anything else, got some nice new energy weapons from it but that's about it. Better than Point Lookout but I didn't enjoy it as much as Operation Anchorage or The Pitt.

Now the only add-on left to beat is Broken Steel.

That's really going against the grain, usually Point Lookout is considered the best by far, and MZ the worst by far. Personally I didn't love any of the DLC, but MZ drove me insane on Very Hard so I lowered the difficulty to Very Easy :)

Started replaying New Vegas, began a new game on hardcore. Let's see how far the back-to-back Fallout marathon goes.

I don't see how or why Point Lookout would be considered the best out of all the add-ons. About the only notable thing going for Point Lookout was it took place in a sizable location that actually required a decent amount of exploration. The story, characters, questline, dialogue and rewards were all terrible. Desmond is outright the worst character in Fallout 3, easily. His try-hard dialogue and terrible VO made him immediately unlikable.

Yeah like I said, I didn't really enjoy any of the DLC. Point Lookout is just the one I've heard being praised the most, precisely because it's the most non-linear.

I played with texture detail turned off anyway, as it started to grate on me that all it seemingly did was add a grainy noise overlay on every texture in the game.

man fuck the world, id 5 is GORGEOUS

I dont play my games sticking my face against textures. If only id was back into the engine game more seriously.. im tired of UE3
It looks great at times, but I just couldn't shake the feeling that I was in a world full of jpeg artifacts sometimes.

That's precisely what the option does; it's just a sharpen filter, nothing more.

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
Just had my less-than-sober friend lead me through Sen's Fortress in Dark Souls. That might have been the best worst experience I've ever had with a game.

Currently installing 21GB of RAGE. What'd you all think of this game?

Despite all it's flaws, it has some of the best FPS combat in any shooter in recent years. The shotgun in this game is a thing of beauty. The game also has some really nice level design and artwork, especially in the latter half. My advice would be to stick to the main missions and avoid the side quests which always send you back to the area you've just cleared.

Why? Are the prices on the winter sale lower than the rest of the sales/dailies?

In many cases, yes, especially in regard to recent titles. I figure if I'm going to be spending a large chunk of cash and there's a bigger sale just around the corner, I might as well wait and have my money go a little further.

spindoctor hit it on the head. Very nice feeling combat. The guns are great. Level design was pretty spot on.

Do we must perform this dance every 6 months, life?

Steam Sales Rules:

1) Only buy games on Daily Deals
2) Wait until the last day of the sale to buy a game you want that wasn't featured on a daily deal.
3) If a deal looks too good to be true, take it. It probably is a mistake. (see rule 4)
4) Secret rule number 4: 75% off is a good enough discount, it'll probably never get more discounted than that. The only scenario where it'll get cheaper is when the regular price drops outside of a sale and then it goes for 75% off again on the next sale.

Special Autumn Sale considerations:

Daily Deal prices might not be repeated on the Winter (Christmas) sale, so rule number 1 still applies. However, it has happened before.

Regular non-daily discounts will likely either be repeated or topped on a daily featured sale in the Winter (Christmas) sale. Since that is only weeks away, rule number 2, "wait until the last day of the sale", actually means "wait until the last day of the xmas sale".

Errors still happen, so if a newish game is listed at 75% off when the sale comes up or the daily deals refresh, you might want to buy it. It's probably a mistake.

Pretty good game that unfortunately was one of those shooters that wanted to try and be a RPG at the same time. To be fair to id they worked on this game so damn long that back when they started, that horrible trend was only just beginning.

It has "quests" and by quests I mean things that tell you to go to the next shooting building that you were going to do anyway. It has a couple of nice looking settlements but there's not much to do in them other than buy/sell and go to the races. It has a half assed crafting system too.

It could have been a lot better if they tried to flesh out those RPG elements or take them out altogether and make an even better FPS. But I still really enjoyed myself for most of it.

Oh fuck, I'm still missing the classic LucasArts adventures. I hope they don't get removed :-/

I need KOTOR 2, several other Star Wars games (enough such that purchasing the pack would be cheaper than buying them individually, assuming they're all discounted by the same factor), Armed and Dangerous, and Thrillville. If Disney does the unthinkable before the Autumn Sale, I'll cry.

Oh gosh, I'm having a hard time resisting Black Ops II. Why is it that the one Holiday release I want is the only one without any discounts around release? $40 and I would be on that shit. :(

I'm getting that season pass, I'm loving the game, I'm about 4 and a half hours in. So given all the backlash I assume it goes to shit later on, but so far the combination of Prince of Persia and Diablo is fantastic.

That length probably still has you on the 1st world which wasn't so bad.

The next world is when the game reaches joke-level with the amount of fetch quests you'll have to do. And then the last 2 worlds don't even really qualify as worlds since they're so small.

Yeah, I'm still in the Tree of Life word, those news are not pleasing. :(

Just bought. We'll definitely shoot some bros/zombies together soon. Semblance, if you're out there, you better give us a holler if or when you get on board too.

I suck pretty bad too, which is OK as long as I don't take the game too seriously.
