343: Halo 4 is best/fastest selling game in series, will do better on quality 4 Halo5

With regards to both SP and MP, Halo 4 is easily the worst game in the series. I even think it's outright bad on both fronts.

Wut. I never said or meant that, as anyone who knows me would understand. I am simply talking about sales. Which continues to be true. "Best and fastest selling." Totals and pace it reached those totals.

The press misquote circle is rather unfortunate I feel, since this will likely be the story that hits half the blogs.

I thought we were supposed to be The Rookie?
lol I thought all of the squad were cool and interesting (Buck specifically is my favorite Halo character) that the rookie ends up seeming like the odd guy out.
though its fine for his sections of the game and matches the atmosphere.

Least favorite Halo for me for a lot of reasons.

If I were to rank them in order of my personal favorites it would go like this,

Halo 3 > Halo 2 >Halo CE > Halo 3: ODST > Halo: Reach > Halo 4

Technically, yes.

I still think Halo 3 has the best sandbox moments. Halo 4 is fantastic though.

I still have a bit of 4 to finish but I tend to agree with this so far. Halo 3 just seemed more 'open'. I can clearly see the path they want me take with Halo 4. It is gorgeous so I can understand them losing some 'open' for visual fidelity but I wish they hadn't. I'd always rather have something with more choices and variety and a visual hit then something that looks pretty but limits my options.

I really like the personal touch in 4 though, the cutscenes, the dialogue, it's great, much better than the past. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel but they did an excellent job.

At first (to make an analogy) I thought it was about quality ("best") and speed ("fastest"). Now, it reads like acceleration ("fastest") and quantity ("best").

Yea, so many of the responses were because of misunderstanding.

People hate Halo 4 now?

I still have it unopened, but I swear it was being praised by great numbers on this board upon its initial release, and now I see it being dubbed one of the worst entries in the franchise by a lot of folks?

It's a good game but definitely not the best Halo. I enjoyed the campaign though but get the feeling they could do so much more with Halo 5 and it's sandbox. The Prometheans weren't that fun to fight and the weapons were nothing special. Reach, CE and 3 are above it for me.

Halo 4 plays great, and it looks great. The gameplay itself though perhaps needs to evolve, more environmental interaction, more dynamic gameplay beyond the nice AI that the enemies have.

I'm weird in that my two favorite Halo games are Reach and 4. Granted, I only started playing Halo around Halo 3 though. I can see people's complaints regarding enemy encounters in 4's campaign (Spartan Ops makes up for it) and the ordinance drop/perk stuff in mp, but I think the good stuff outweighs the bad.
Honestly, I don't see why they can't introduce like a barbones playlist to appease the Halo 2/3 fans who don't want anything to do with perks and want the old weapon drop system. I personally like Reach and Halo 4 because they actually changed up the old Halo formula and allowed those new to the series to get into the MP without being outright slaughtered by the pros. The good halo players are still going to be good regardless if there's perks or armor abilities or whatever. I know I'm in the minority.

You do? I haven't seen that.

Personally i think its the worst campaign so far too. Story is incomprehensible, prometheans are terrible, it ends with a QTE, its a bad Halo game.
Id rank the campaigns as 3>Reach>ODST>CE>2>4

I only rate CE so far down as its level design has aged appalingly with all the cut n paste areas. Its still a fantastic game tho.

Halo 3, CE and ODST are fantastic. Halo 4 and Reach are alright. Halo 2 hasn't aged well at all. Talking about the campaigns of course. Halo 4 does have the worst soundtrack by far though.

Besides the bugs you encounter now and then I thought Halo 4 was pretty great at first but now I feel like the maps got old way too fast and made multiplayer boring. I was always able to play reach for years without getting tired of the maps. Maybe its the lack of including forge maps.

You've just described the story in the campaigns for me in Halo 1 through Halo 3. I couldn't grasp hardly any of the Halo fiction until I watched Halo Legends. Four is pretty straight forward for a Halo game and is in IMO the best story in a Halo game. Their biggest mistake was hiding those story terminals, but even if you don't watch them it's not a hard story to understand.

Forge maps will have their own playlist shortly (so as not to "taint" other lists). And there's a new map pack coming soon (with some smaller maps).

Although the community isn't as large as the Halo 3 days and they don't have certain playlists that I want (Team Doubles, Team Snipers, and Multi Team!) I love the multiplayer gameplay way more than the previous games. There definitely is room for improvement.

This is great news. I hate the DLC maps so much because they are also so big. More small maps is fantastic. Is KoH ever going to come back as its own playlist, and will extraction ever get its own playlist? I really miss KoH and it almost never gets picked since it seems people mostly pick slayer when it comes up in the DLC playlist.

Good for Halo 4, it was fun with a friend but otherwise I was rather iffy on it, but they made improvements to it that imo Bungie took too long to do.

It's subjective to say whether a certain game is the best in it's series, unless it suffers from a bunch of technical issues. I would hope that 343 wouldn't release it if they didn't think it would be the best game so far.

It's stupid that people care so much what 343 says.

especially since we didn't say that.

I am not saying Bungie is an awful dev like the other guy but I think it is clear that in terms of making Halo games 343 is better. The jump in graphics is massive from 3/Reach to 4, and I think all the additions that they made to mp have worked out great.

the leap from 3 to reach was larger than the one from reach to 4.

ODST worst?

Any particular reason why?, not a fan of the hub world I'm guessing?

I also thought ODST had the worst campaign (still very good, mind you, just bettered by other games in the series). I loved the atmosphere in those parts, but the hub world was a huge wasted opportunity. A few blocks for you to explore, but practically nothing of interest to find - phone booths, a few weapon caches, some winks to the fans and that's it. 99% of the doors were locked, and those that weren't usually didn't lead into anything particularly interesting. Most streets and squares looked very similar, and most importantly, the city didn't look like a real place that people lived in, inside and out. Half-Life 2 nailed that, but most other FPS games set in urban parts fail to provide the same believability. ODST failed hard, the whole area was oh-so-obviously artificially constructed for gameplay purposes and little else.

The flashbacks were typical Halo - and I mean that in the best sense possible - but some of them felt uninspired, and the whole experience was very disjointed, while at the same time failing to be varied enough (you were supposed to be playing as a set of different characters, yet all of them basically felt the same). I also thought the characters were underutilized on the narrative side, especially the AI who was featured prominently in the marketing campaign. Maybe it was purposefully subdued because they didn't want to come off as ripping off Portal, but it still should've been utilized better.

So while I respect the intention, the execution was not that great. The whole subgenre doesn't play to Bungie's strengths, and it showed.

wait so it actually meant fastest and best selling? half this thread is fucking "oh I agree best halo ever. lol bungie"

I wonder what 343's creation would have looked like without Microsoft standing over their shoulder the whole time. Then again, Microsoft created 343. I guess I'll never know...Frankie, get fired so you can tell us about the development process and how you guys really wanted to create a proper Halo multiplayer. And you can pull a George Castanza if you're not sure how to get fired.

Why are you implying that somehow Microsoft put the chains on 343 right away?

This is GAF of late. Is all about articles which are incorrect, and a bunch of people posting about the title, and ignoring the contents of the thread.

I'm having a good time with the game, even the online which 3 and reach kind of lost me in. Game has problems but I hope through patches they can fix a lot of it.

I play Halo solely for multiplayer and having fun so it's a solid game for me. I just wish they were quicker with balancing and updating their playlist. Where's meh griffball? Snipez? Maybe even action sack w/ Binary Rifle + Thrusters?

A few other things:
-I think the game needs a few more "staple" maps comparable to Haven
-the ranking/leveling system is too finite and i can see people maybe getting bored when they reach it
-fix the problem where teams are split unevenly

Did expect 343 to be tech gods straight out the gate with their first game. Already part of the elite.

Dat next gen graphics.... i cant wait.

Game was awesome. I agree on the sandbox aspect though. Not enough enemy variety with the Prometheans. Some moments felt too linear. Other than that, it is great. Too many pessimists on these boards.

I can agree that, taken as a whole, it's the most complete package in the series
I can't

What did we gain

Spartan Ops
Loadouts
A tad more customisation (skins don't count it's a lame way to extend the armory)
Commendation expansion
Regicide
Extraction
Dominion
Ugly new armour

What did we lose

Frame rate
Firefight
Many of the legacy armor set that had became fan favourites
Campaign /firefight
Pro-pipe
Campaign scoring
Long progression system
Multiple custom options and game types
Invasion
Elite player models

In terms of complete package what about Halo 4 feels complete? The erratic frame rate? The broken file sharing options? The chopped on
Half recording features? The textures not loading when you scope across maps?

Framerate?

What game did you play because HALO 4 has some of the best fps in a HALO game. You could be confusing for lag in multiplayer cause in singleplayer and multiplayer there is literally no dip in the fps just check eurogamer analysis of the fps. It's 30fps 99% with no tear because of vsync.
