343: Halo 4 is best/fastest selling game in series, will do better on quality 4 Halo5

Framerate?

What game did you play because HALO 4 has some of the best fps in a HALO game. You could be confusing for lag in multiplayer cause in singleplayer and multiplayer there is literally no dip in the fps just check eurogamer analysis of the fps. It's 30fps 99% with no tear because of vsync.

This is simply not true. Frame rate is the worst in the series.

I know the difference between lag and frame rate and halo 4 frame rate can get very bad at times

While I've never faced framerate issues in SP, I have found it to be an issue during the first spartan ops mission map.

I was really impressed by it. Fantastic graphics, great Campaign, Spartan Ops is a good addition and the multiplayer has evolved while still feeling like Halo. Great -but please bring back firefight, I have some really good co-op memories from ODST because of it.

Halo is my favorite gaming franchise ever. Halo 4 was a decent purchase, I got about a months worth of play-time out of it. The Multiplayer was the worst I've played in any Halo game. I went back to Reach more than I am for this crap.

Bring on Halo 5 I guess

I'm not making this up it's a problem the community has been vocal about. Check GAF's own Halo topic it's frequently commented on.

Proof is videos that monitor short term examples of gameplay.

And I'm only talking about solo here. Split screen can get to near enough chug status

mmm hmm

I think a long term example shows more proof of fps than some 10sec vid could.

Yeah...this is HaloGaf now.

Definitely a great first installment from 343, though this is coming from someone that is single player campaign focussed. I played Halo 1 2 & in a row prior to Halo 4 so feel my 1st month of Halo 4 can be compared with thee previous games with a fair degree of freshness.

For me the Halo main series runs as follows:

1. Halo CE - original and best, no matter how many times I play through I have a blast and still have new encounters. Never got the hate for the Library etc.

2. Halo 4 - I had a blast with Halo 4, and to be honest I think there are 2 main reasons for that; it seems clear to me that 343 went back to CE for their main inspiration which may explain some of the 'smaller' scale levels compared to 3. Additionally Halo 4 had NO BRUTES!!! I fucking detest those monkeys, never enjoyed fighting them, and found the Prometheans coupled with the other Covenant staples in Halo 4 to be a vast improvement.
Oh and I don't care what people say, but Halo 4 (at least on my TV) was a MASSIVE graphical upgrade to previous games. However, it gets minus points for dissapearing weapons! That is a major PITA on Legendary.

3. Halo 3 - Enoyed it much more than the time I had with Halo 2 in my replay run. Loved Campaign Scoring and it's something I miss in Halo 4. That said, Brutes suck, and Halo 3 is mostly Bruteville.

4. Halo 2 - Really surprised by how much I disliked it sandwiched in between CE and Halo 3 during my replay run. It was so cheap in places (Sniper Alley, Cairo Station Cargo Bay!) and I generally didn't have anywhere near as much 'fun' as with CE, and subsequently 3 and 4. Narrative execution was poor as well. That said, playing as the Arbiter was a plus point.

This order could potentially change on subsequent playthrough's of Halo 4, and I shoudl also qualify that I've alwasy been a predominantly solo campaigner, and I could easily see people who loved co-op in Halo 3 having more issues with the scale than I did.

Halo 4 got back that alien otherworldly feeling that CE nailed. Really enjoyed Davidge's soundtrack too.

Oh, and Frankie if you are reading, ditch the QTEs for Halo 5 and keep weapons persistent mmkay? Thankee!

If the framerate dips, I haven't noticed it. I've had Spartan Ops lag with a million crawlers spawning in and moving all over the place on Valhalla with 3 players, and that sucked, but in campaign or versus? Nope.

I can believe it sucks for splitscreen though.

Here's a DigitalFoundry video of a particularly action heavy campaign mission with framerate:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy09HLGoKLc

Any videos like this that show the dips? I'm usually really sensitive to this stuff, and did notice it in Reach, campaign and multiplayer.

For those questioning frame rate dips: they are most certainly there. Especially in split screen. I know a few gaffers that have given up entirely on split screen because of it.

Categorically wrong. Halo 2's framerate even in single player is consistently bad. Halo 4 is nowhere near that. In fact except for a spot here and there, it's exceptional.

Great game but they do have a lot to work on. 343 should be proud of the SP though.

The framerate in MP can get baddddd. Some of thew worse dips in the series and that's not lag happening either. Spartan OPS can get particularly shitty.

Let's get this out of the way, the ONLY place framerate drops is in Split Screen.
This happened to me too and I found it very odd.

BUT
I need everyone to understand and read this, play Split screen a few times. Because the first time I played complex in 2 player split screen there was more lag than I've ever experienced in any Halo multiplayer. But every subsequent time I played Split Screen there was absolutely no lag whatsoever, and I have weekly 4-player split screen get togethers. So I think the game is caching the multiplayer or something. Because the framerate dip is very temporary, and don't let your first experience sour your thoughts on Split Screen. I guarantee you will see a massive improvement if you keep playing.

It's beautiful but probably my least favorite now that the newness has worn off.

Story was crap and the multiplayer maps are such a bore. That said, I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Go in the center room in Complex and throw a grenade while looking at the display thing in the center. Play some 5v5 on Complex and go to the top of the center structure and look anywhere but your feet. All of the new DLC maps(especially Wreckage KotH) have framerate issues. Vortex has issues on open side. Dominion becomes Powerpointy after a few minutes. Play any matchmaking in split screen and you will have issues. It's a part of the reason why I stopped playing(I can't play with my roommate) and I know Hydra's playtime went down as well because of the split screen frame rate.

Yeah...this is HaloGaf now.

It was corrected a while ago, but it brought up the question of whether the original misquote was true or not (disregarding Frankie) and people are still talking about that topic...it's not rocket science as to how something like that unfolds.

There are quite of few that went to 343 Industries after Reach was completed. As you may know, Frankie is at 343i and a big persona of the franchise. Mostly anyone who wanted to stay with the franchise at Bungie left to keep working on HALO.

Can not wait to see HALO 5 on next gen tech. Going to go bananas over the graphics and see what they can do with all the power for battle scenes and encounters.

I disagree. I thought the campaign (and especially the ending) in Halo: Reach was much better. Also, while I think the game looks great and has great art direction, I think that Gears 3 remains the best looking game on the 360.

I thought the campaign was pretty poorly designed. How much padding can you put in a 6 hour story? Apparently, quite a bit.

Thank fuck you can skip the tram sections.

I'm really surprised you rank ODST last, especially when I feel the campaign came closest to the Halo:CE for me.

Did you not like firefight either?

No. Firefight for ODST and Reach was a laggy mess for people on slower connections. Imagine playing Halo with a 2-3 second pause in between for every second of movement.

As for ODST, I spent the first half an hour lost in the hub world as the telephone wouldn't ring. I eventually finished the game, but the experience was really disjointed. All the levels just seemed like subsections what you would find in any Halo game (i.e. tank section, stop for cover and kill sniper) What really killed it was the incessant beeping when your character had low health.

Disagree completely. Halo 4 is the Halo 2 of this generation except that it's multiplayer isn't as good.
Here's my issue with things like this being said, and it's not nitpicking on you. I look at it this way: I am now giving Bungie the benefit of the doubt for Halo 2's campaign because it was obviously rushed and many things they had ambition for were missing. It had awful pop-in. Still, despite all those problems for them, they still made a decent campaign and had some memorable moments and levels. It wasn't CE by any stretch of the imagination, no other Halo campaign has been for me, but it still is far and above what anything Halo 4's SP brought to me. Halo 2's SP still had a great well told story, had some excellent (new) characters in the Prophet of Truth and the Arbiter, and had some fun, entertaining levels. I don't think there's any of that in Halo 4 at all. None. The bulletin about improving Halo 4 going forward can't fix that.

The MP is as big as a disappointment but we kind of felt that was coming based off all the material and information we've received (by fans no less) throughout the summer. Loadouts, most of the AA's, overpowered weapons, lack of key features and gametypes from previous Halo games, lackluster map design especially for any objective based games, JIP and kill cams are a joke, it's just a mess.

The SP was amazing, anyone who says otherwise is just trolling or didn't play Halo 2/Reach. They definitely brought it in another, more character driven direction, but it's also not too far off from what Halo was.

The graphics shouldn't be possible on the 360. It's absolutely cheating. The disc has more RAM on it or something. It's amazing.

The MP is arguably more important in a game like this, and it fell terribly flat. The UUs still playing it dropped like a rock after the third (maybe second?) week.

I thought it was fine until the last few hours. I was so sick of headshotting those dog things with that forerunner rifle by the end that it was actually making me feel physically ill.

Ah, okay. Was pretty sure that may have been the case otherwise Halo 4 wouldn't have been received as well.

I'm surprised to see so many people calling 4's soundtrack the worst in the series. It certainly wasn't implemented well, but I thought songs themselves were better than a majority of what was featured in Reach and 3.

In terms of graphics, yes it's the best Halo to date.

But the rest? They sacrified "Firefight" for "Spartan ops" and it just has no soul. Microsoft gave 343 a lot of money and ressouces but as we say here in Germany "Money doesn't shoot goals" (related to soccer).

I thought Reach had the weakest. I definitely like what 4 was after, although none of the songs are truly memorable to me. I was hoping for even more electronic stuff based on the promethians and the world you're fighting in. It looks like they borrowed a ton from Tron: Legacy visually and that turned out great, I wish they would've done the same with the audio.

the plot was a joke
the campaign was short
the maps are mostly bad

Better than Halo 3 but worse than the first one and maybe even halo 2 at least for the plot.

I like the Infinity multiplayer menu track.

Felt like many of the Halo 4 songs didn't build on top of themes (e.g. Halo Reach Lone Wolf )

I have had a ton of framerate drops when playing 8v8 on Shatter.
