F-ZERO (SNES) is 30 cents FEB 20th to MAR 21st on the Wii U eShop

No.

The SNES game is leagues better than the GBA versions, IMO. It controlled like a dream whereas the GBA games were MUCH more "slippery" and hard to control. I never cared for the GBA F-Zero games despite loving the original. SNES version has fantastic music which is again better than the GBA versions.

if you use the tapping the accelerator trick in the GBA games, most of the issue is gone and the games handle very close to the SNES one. you also need to use the ships that handle good since a few handle horribly even with the trick (same is true for the SNES game)

the fact the SNES game reuses a lot of tracks with minimal changes makes it drop in ranking for me. the GBA games have at least a complete set of new tracks and don't resort to copy/paste midway through it (though GPL did use the copy/paste shamelessly to double the course count)

the GBA games are pretty underrated imo. they stand toe to toe with the original and beat it in several areas. i guess this is a bit like the situation between Super Metroid and the GBA Metroids where the GBA games get little appreciation compared to their predecessor despite being pretty good games that do several things as good or better.

Yep, Climax is amazing and has the best soundtrack. Too bad in never saw world wide release.

Should have been F-Zero X

if they had announced the N64 for VC that'd be preferred but we're out of luck for now.

but, when the time comes, we need to go and ask for the Expansion Kit to be included with FZX. it is a crime to this day that the game is missing the features included in the EK. hopefully Nintendo listens like they did with the 60hz issue (though making a new ROM with the EK stuff is gonna take more effort and is more unlikely seeing how they operate)

Looking forward to picking this up when I get home and playing on the pad. And sometimes on the TV with one of these:

Wait a minute. This thing works with the Wii U?

This looks really clean on the Gamepad. Really happy about that. Looks much crisper than Balloon Fight.

The scaling used in Nintendo's SNES emulator has always been ultra sharp.

SNES games on Wii VC look razor sharp, they appear to be using the same base for the Wii U emu.

Came out in Europe too. Nabbed one from the Stars Catalogue a while back but not had anything good to use it with. Until now!

This is the first VC game I've downloaded for the Wii U. Maybe this is a dumb question:

I can't find it on the channel list after I downloaded it. Where is it so I can play it? Please tell me I don't need a Wii Remote.

Press the Home button, go to Download Management, pick the download and Install it.

you need to install it first. check the downloads on the home menu.

I don't get Nintendo, they overprice they hell out of their old titles and then thay put a sale at 30 cents...

I guess it's some sort of strategy to get people to buy the Wii U earlier but still it's a bit weird.

First game is a classic, sure. But hasn't exactly aged well, and the GBA versions are essentially much extended versions of that game.

Would much rather have seen an update of F-Zero GX (imo the best in the series), or heaven forbid a NEW F-ZERO GAME! Nothing has filled the void left in the racing genre since then.

Dang, I thought this was supposed to be updated separate to the eShop and would be up already :(

It seems for whatever reason NoE decided to wait for the eShop's official weekly update on the 21st instead of putting the new 30 30 30 game up and on sale on the 20th like the rest of the world.

Honestly this .30 cent scheme is brilliant, you can't just buy .30 cent games you have to at least buy 5 dollars on the WiiU eshop meaning most people will probably end up buying all the .30 cent games released.

Downloaded F-Zero during the Sony Presser, made me laugh

No, you can just spend 30c if you want to. Just hit purchase, then pay by credit card.

After playing with this for an hour I can't get over the crappy image (macroblocking?) that appears on the top third of the Gamepad. It appears where that gradient is overlayed to help the road look like it is moving fast. Even messes up the edges of the font and plays havoc with all the fast moving bitzy graphics on the road. Guess a limitation of the image transfer and compression. Unfortunate.

You know I was slightly disappointed that the back L and R triggers only brought up the Wii U menu. Then I remembered I could change the controller mappings! I'm so glad controller mapping is apart of the new VC

bought

Is it just me or is the filter they're using for this not as blurry as the filter they are using for the NES Ballon Fight?

man this game is great

The only 2D F-Zero I had played previously was the GBA version and I really didn't like it at all. I'm glad that it seems to be a problem exclusive to Maximum Velocity, because F-Zero SNES is super fun.

Will purchase this weekend.

Surprised the eShop is using a $1 dollar = $13.3 Mexican pesos exchange rate.
Nintendo has always used a cheaper rate :(

so after 30 days I can't play this game anymore of I purchase it for 30 cents? So I'm renting it basically?
No. You own it. You're paying 30 cents to OWN it.

And still not in the UK. I bought my Wii U for this game (okay, I was always going to buy one anyways but with the barren schedule, F-Zero on the Gamepad for 30p pushed me over the edge!) so not to play it yet is PAINFUL!

For the first time on the Wii U, I'm getting some major compression artifacts when playing this game on the gamepad. Other than that, feels great.
