BIT.TRIP Presents: Runner 2 Future Legend of Rhythm Alien |OT|

Unfortunately on the PC it seems like I have to choose between V-Sync and noticeable lag, or perfect timing and truly hideous screen tearing. (I went with the screen tearing.)

Otherwise, though, the game is fantastic so far.

Yeah, I've also noticed the input lag.

In the second world and absolutely loving the game. Playing on the Wii U and haven't even turned on the TV since I bought it. Perfect game for when you're sick and just lying in bed.

The bullseye is kicking my ass...

What key do you press to dance on the keyboard? It looks like R-CTRL under the settings but I guess you can only do it at a certain time?

What I wouldn't do for a Wii U right about now... 200%'d the first RUNNER and I've been following the dev blog religiously. Huge Bit.Trip fan; I have all six WiiWare games, SAGA off of the 3DS eShop, and incidentally acquired the Steam versions of BEAT and RUNNER through various bundles.

(Get the Steam version? Oh no no no - call me a purist, but Bit.Trip started on WiiWare. Damn right I'm grabbing that sucker with a Wii U.)
And the best version of the saga is still on Wii, in the form of Bit.Trip Complete. I'd pay for the challenge levels to have them on Steam in the form of DLC, if the price was right.

Yeah right after I whined about that I tried windowed, haha. Helps a lot, yay!
I was going to ask if you'd also tried D3DOverrider for vsync + triple buffering, but it sounds like windowed is the way to go. Oddly enough I might have played BIT.TRIP Runner in windowed as well.

About half way through the first world and I love it! The Retro stages are awesome too, love the way they look.

So good. Playing Wii U during hockey and going full screen during intermission.

How many worlds?

I'm playing Donkey Kong Country Returns right now for my first time and the beach levels in both are eerily similar in look ha.

So... I'm getting puzzled by the Wii U version. I'm playing on the game pad, and I feel like the timing is slightly delayed...

I'm not sure that it is, but it doesn't feel as "snappy" as the original. It might just be the animation, but the game doesn't seem to be as "clean" in indicating the music/game flow. We'll see what happens as I progress.

(I've also noticed a few random bits of frame stuttering/jumping on the gamepad... I need to try it on the TV and see what it's like.)

I do get a slight delay when playing on off the Wii U Gamepad.

Not really that big of a deal, even on Rather Hard.

Amazing game. Just as I remembered it from last year, just WAY more polished.

Forgot to link my stream, but I played the first two worlds

Game is beautiful but it often clashes with the gameplay and makes it hard to see what's coming up ahead. Other than that, ace game so far

Nice, you died a lot less than I did on my first run of the first world.

I've been having some trouble with the art clashing with what's going onscreen as well, but I'm red/green colorblind, so wasn't sure if it was just me.

I haven't noticed too many delay issues, but I may have already gotten used to it. I did have the gamepad stutter a couple of times though, resulting in death. I imagine that has more to do with interference with the console than anything else.

That tends to happen when the gamepad is losing signal. You might be playing too far away from your Wii U.

Dumb question, but what are double and triple perfects?

Getting perfects on all three difficulty settings is a triple perfect. Double perfect is any two.

Dumb question, but what are double and triple perfects?

Getting perfects (including bullseyes I believe) on two and three different difficulties. For example, beat a stage on easy, normal, and hard, getting all gold, power-ups and bullseyes = triple perfect.

Edit: Beaten above.

Get on eShop to buy this, see it's $15, buy Gangnam Style Just Dance DLC instead.

That's a hard sell considering they just put the previous game up on 3DS for $10.

Off topic: why does it take 54 minutes to download a DLC song?!

Will QA for food.
I reeeeeeally have the itch to buy this right now, but money is tight. I'm also terrible at these auto-running rhythm games and I know it'll be on sale via Steam in a few months. Although I'd prefer it on the eShop. Harmoknight and Toki Tori 2's pending release must also be considered, since I don't have the resources to buy up all the eShop goodness I want.

Just turned off V-Sync and yep no lag. Those series of quick steps aren't as terrifying as before. This is something that will probably be patched right? It plays so much better with no V-Sync...

How do you open key vaults and what does it mean by Beat the key? One more question I got perfects on level 1 beat the Boss but there is one level near the boss I still can't access.

There are alternate paths on some levels which lead to new levels, a la Super mario world.

Um.. you should be able to just hold down the Power button on the Wii U gamepad to turn the system off, correct? I know I've done it in other games.

When I do this with Runner 2, the gamepad turns off but the system stays on and freezes. When I turn the gamepad back on, nothing works and I have to pull the plug on my Wii U.
I'm having this problem too, it also freezes if you try to close the game and return to the Wii U menu. So the only way to quit playing the game is to have your system freeze and unplug the power cord from your system.

Runner 2 is a really great game and I like the off screen play in the Wii U version a lot. If you're worried about being bad at auto-runners, every level has an easy difficulty setting and optional checkpoints you can use. The game is really as difficult as you want to make it.

I'm terrible at the cannon launching, I had to replay almost every level several times to get the Perfect+. I'm playing on normal, I'll probably try the other difficulties after beating the game once. So no Triple Perfects+ for a while for me.

Beautiful game, beautiful soundtrack, awesome game. A worthy successor to the original game, and I'm loving the new art style.

yep. Noticed this as well. Someone in the Nintendo Downloads topic said to try and redownload to the game. I might try that. Will that erase all my progress I guess?

I think you may be able to choose to only delete the game and keep the save data. I haven't done it before so I can't say for sure.

This game is all that I hoped it would be. It makes me a little sad that the Wii U leader boards are already so busy. It's not my fault I had to work all day! I'll be running and running to earn some points...

holy shit, how did i not know this came out?

i played through the first one while i was laid up with a ruptured achilles tendon last year. i have loved the bit trip games since beat, but runner was the first one i was able to finish.

those who have played it, what do you think of the art style?

Same here, got home from work, downloaded the game and some of those high scores are already so ridiculously high.

Wow, this game is fantastic. I'm playing on pc and loving every minute of it, it's so much better than Runner 1, artstyle and all. I'm even nailing bullseyes left and right, the trick is to stare at the cannon for a few seconds to gauge when its tilt reaches the absolute center.

Looks like there is an issue with the game on the Wii-U

Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien causing Wii U lock-up?

I got an email from reader Marl0 about a lock-up issue with Runner2 on Wii U. Every time the reader tries exit the game from the Runner2 main menu, the Wii U goes through an endless loop of returning to the Miiverse screen. This requires an unplug of the system from its outlet to fix.

I can vouch for this issue, as it's happened to me three times now...and I've played three times today. We're also hearing about some menu option issues, but those aren't as widespread.

oppps banned site.. sorry.. but twitter seems to indicate that the game has problems.

I too had to unplug the Wii U when I wanted to exit the game. For a second I thought I had bricked my console.

But this game is beautiful. I love it. /tear

Really enjoying this game. Not sure where all the retro stages are (though I've only completed the first world and completed about 4-5 stages in the second), but I hope to find them all at least.

Though gotta love doing a great run and screwing up the bullseye! D:
