I thought that you were saying that video games didnt have the "power" of hollywood. They do. Hell, look at Ellen Page Simulator, that's pretty freaking good for 2013.

Try 2005.

PS3 is an 8 year old console with mid-range specs for the time it released. What pisses me off is that the best looking games play like interactive tech demos.

Hardware and software are different. The software that can produce this is from 2011 or 2012. Could we get better on high end PC? Probably.
Hell, the best PC in the world have beaten two humans at a game of Jeopardy. Soon.

Are we talking PS2 level tech or current gen? Because there is a bit of a difference.

we talking whatever. You're never gonna see Avengers-level CG on a videogame cutscene till quite a while from now.

(also hopefully never because pre-rendered cutscenes are the worst)

Well its mostly because movies can do what they want. They dont have that much hardware limitation. And a movie is 2 hour long where a game is 5-7 times that too.
But maybe next gen.

Oh...never seen that before. I would think it being a hype/viral/PR video they'd want it to spread has far and wide as possible. *shrug*

Sega went far and ahead to take down everything about Shining Force on youtube. Probably so that the new Shining Force would be the top research result.

Something just donned on me, what if Mogren IS a PS4 and that's why they've been holding out showing him entirely?

That just makes the questions in the interview even more godly.

"Will the phantom pain be coming to the PS4?"

"I can't confirm that
because I AM the PS4.......contracts and all that, you know how it is Geoff
"

Just to rustle SalsaShark's jimmies :p

Regardless, I hope there's a payoff to this. Otherwise this would be the dumbest promo ever.

yeah, the whole point of me using #teamfun is because #teamreal was starting to get name-cally and it was bumming me out.

It was all fun and silliness the first dozen pages or so. But there is a boundary between "haha okay guys that's funny" and "holy shit, you are mental". I'm looking at you Kyoufu.

Seriously, for me, the fun has been sapped out 10 or so pages ago. Now you guys are just being plain foolish. I'm out; I don't want to be among the crazies here. Also, in before nofunallowed.jpg.

I'd be very surprised if this was CG. Still, the fact that Kojima is able to wring out this much mystery surrounding a game that we already debunked long ago is pretty admirable. Gotta love the guy.

The Truth is part of the Cobras. His special power is that he's completely made up of CG.

He looks so real that he blows your mind. Killing you instantly.

Argh I don't feel like going over the clips and timestamping everything again but basically:

1- Every time the camera or Snake stares at a bright light, there is a hissing sound heard. This happens in both trailers.
2- When Snake or the camera looks at advanced technology, the screen starts to fade out and "lens-flares"-like effects appear that are unrelated to what is happening on screen. This happens in the GZ trailer.

Basically, the patient is in coma/reliving memories in Virtual Reality, and when his eyes are exposed to bright lights in the memories or when he sees advanced technology, it triggers a waking-up effect until he stops staring, probably a side-effect from his brain starting to "remember" that what he is seeing is fake when exposed to things that are similar to what is around him in the real world (advanced technology and bright laboratory lights above his table).

A bit like how you wake up if you die when you are dreaming, because surely you couldn't be dying for real.

I heard this theory before. I think that's pushing it too far. My money is on those orange sparkles of light being checkpoints; nothing more.

But of course, I wouldn't put anything past Kojima, so who knows.

I will say the fact that he and Geoff weren't on camera together was weird, but for me that's the only thing that suggest something is amiss.

It would make no sense at all for them being checkpoints considering where they happen, twice in the same cinematic no less lol.

This is all so stupid, but I think it's great that Kojima is fucking with fans so hard. The man really seems to put a lot of effort into everything he does. I'm really looking forward to see whatever it actually is he's working on.

The flow and pacing of the interview felt like the two men were not in the same room. Even for a scripted fake interview, it felt "off".

I was a little skeptical at first, mainly because they always mess up with lips in cgi, but then I remembered Audrey Hepburn. And then I wasn't sure because the wrinkles around the eyes seem too real, but then I remembered the Luminous Engine old man. Knowing that technology has advance to this stage now combined with the fact that they bandaged up his entire face so they could completely focus on those two facial areas and not even have to worry about hair has me 100% on #TeamCG.

its 35 pages later but i'll still respond:

that's not my point. My point is that the top CG production companies work on Hollywood. ILM shits on any videogame. They get more money to work with.

Have you seen some of the stuff movies do these days? There are two kinds of "special effects" these days--the kind you're supposed to see and be impressed by, and the kind you're never supposed to notice. Most of the photorealistic human animation is the kind that you're never supposed to notice--I think the last high-profile one was the CGI Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator: Salvation in 2009. I'm struggling to think of examples after that, but the reality of it is the majority of the situations are things like putting actor's faces onto stuntmen--the kind of stuff they hide as well as possible anyway.

Davey Jones is a great example of CG everyone thought was real.
