The Last of Us: New Previews

Aiming's fine to me, although bullets don't have the usual impact. Inventory management? I presume that's referring to the gun selection that works like Half Life, really. Too hard? Hmm, not really. The demo's really pretty short, too.

The demo's really good. Tons of atmosphere. My only real disappointment is that bullets still don't have the impact you'd expect from a game of this ilk. A shot to the chest should be severely crippling a human hunter, but they still shrug it off Uncharted style.

Uggggggggggghhhhhhh, Naughty Dog c'mon.

Bullet sponge enemies are pretty much the norm these days, so not entirely unexpected. I do wonder about one of the images though, is Joel choking out a clicker? Interesting...

Awesome how Joel's hands when aiming with a gun recognizes the wall when you are to close to it. He then moves the holding gun towards his chest automatically. Incredible detail if you ask me because I'm not used to this.
(have no experience in making gifs, so I rather show it per screenshots)

Starbreeze does this on Riddick and Syndiacte, fps though.

Pretty much deleted all my hype, tbh. Same cartoony bullshit. Here I was, thinking 2 shots would kill someone tops because they were trying to be realistic.

Yeah, that was my number 1 problem with the Uncharted games and the reason why I'm not buying this without trying it first. The fact their weak gunplay is back most likely moves this off my "To buy" list.

It just makes no sense to me. Guys in the E3 demo were stumbling from shots and even Joel got knocked back when rounds hit him. What's changed? Even in the newer footage I'm seeing, infected enemies tend to react, though it's hard to tell because they're twitching and stumbling around.

IDK, I'm really picky about stuff like this so I'll wait until I get my hands on it to judge, but I'm preparing myself for the worst....or should I say for "the normal" since 95% of shooters have the same issue.

On the plus side, this is way more intense than most combat this generation. The seamless animations are really, really impressive.

i came in with HUGE expectations, yet i was fucking BLOWN AWAY.

By "human hunters" I think he means the 1st stage infected who charge at you.

Hopefully he'll clarify though.

But Alan wake didn't really have that many closed space, as far as I remember.
Extremely excited about this though.

Yes it was good but could have been better with more open/varied environments. All they did was dump the player in some sort of jungle during night.

That there's a listen mode switch? Yes there is

Thanks man. There was always the option to not use it but I was afraid that the game would be designed around it making it too frustrating, if you can turn it off that shouldn't be the case.
None of the previews I've read mention this. WTF?

Edit: thanks for the pic Stryke. This is great news.

reading those previews, one could see that TLoU would be a 9 - 10 game, but then the same sites that says "im stunned" puts a fucking 8 to the game.

I dont believe the previews, its always the same "game is awesome, im stunned, the pinnacle of mature gaming, blah blah blah"... 7.5 or B-

I haven't really been following this game much not to spoil it for myself, but I'm intent on buying it - my only worry is longevity. Has there been much about how long the game is and if it holds up to multiple replays? Too early for that maybe?

Just these days when I buy a game I need to know it's going to last a long time.

Nd says that this is the longest single player that they have ever made.

I haven't played any Uncharted games so that doesn't mean much :3

It has multiplayer too though. Either way it looks like something not to pass on, but still waiting for reviews, if it's not OMFG!!!!1! level of awesome I can wait till it's sub-£20.

Any Multiplayer info fellow GAFfers? Sorry to ask before watching the previews but I wanted to avoid Spoilers or some Single Player videos before I play it myself.

Thanks in advance.

I just saw Eurogamers gameplay and read Joystiqs preview and wow. This game is fucking stunning, it just went from me buying it at around $50 to a day one purchase. The whole world seems fantastic. I'm ashamed at myself that I actually doubted ND in this game.

BTW you guys sure that wasn't PS4 footage?

I'm weak. I went all this way and didn't watch any footage until today. I'm sold. Day one. Going to be a blast.

Nofi - looks like your major complaint can be turned off.

I'm gonna be going through this with listen mode turned off.

Aye, I know. But some bits of the demo felt (to me) like they were recommending it.

If it just highlighted a rough position and not a specific enemy type etc I wouldn't be so objectional. It's too specific, and a neat feature is spoiled by making the game too easy.

TLOU should focus on Listen Mode more, but make it less obvious. If you see what I mean.

In any case, the game is great.

Thesixthaxis' comment is atrociously stupid. The listen feature isn't there for you, it's to ensure that first time players of games like this can have a good time finishing the game without forcibly changing the experience for you.

The guy who wrote responded right above you. May want to save such hyperbole without playing it?

Maybe they should have made a mode without the listen feature. Or when you choose the easy difficulty mode you have this and with the other difficulty levels you don't.

nofi's comments suggest that the feature can be turned off but that it's something important and mandatory for certain parts of the game. And having to use something like this often so you can be sure you're not stuck because of this is stupid.

To nofi : Is it like the scan feature in RE Revelations? I find it boring because it seems that you have to use it. (speaking about the Wii U version, didn't try the 3DS one).
