Is SCE even going to say something tomorrow? Some of the translation made it sound like even that wasn't certain. ". . .if they choose to." What. Between that and the Sony guys here going "Wat" this all sounds like some bullshit.

Also, free ps4 plox <3 Sony.

Story comes online

"The RAM on the PS4 is rumoured to actually be 5GB DDR3

We have asked Sony to comment on this

Update: Sony refutes the rumour, confirms what was already announced

Thanks for all the clicks though"

Also, I understand the tweet to be referring to spec issues. Not about production or anything.

PS4 is still on target for Holiday 2013.

Eurogamer Spain……
I wonder why the main site doesn't publish anything about it.

This got me thinking: maybe it's just Spain-related. Possibly, PS4 won't be available in Spain this year.

That'd make no difference to everyone else but I'm sure those living in Spain would be pissed the fuck off, and of course, it being a major territory Sony would want to address

Sony's going to announce bad news about PS4 tomorrow? Well, this sounds weird to me. I mean, companies don't just come out and announce bad news about their product - they try to hide it, or make it look like a "good" thing.

Also, what this guy is doing is bad journalism, in my opinion. It's like: "hey, I've got some bad news, but I can't tell what it is right now. So, I'll just post this on my twitter just to mess with people".

It' not bad journalism at all. In fact it's very common practice. If you have a big story the company may ask for time to respond. You can either give it to them or go ahead and report it but that will tarnish your working relationship. I'm sure they don't want to lose future Sony swag so they are giving them an opportunity to have a response ready.

PS4 RAM is downgraded to DDR3. GPU is 50% weaker. All consoles will now be sold with the PS Eye. Price increase by $100.

this is not surprising at all.

microsoft had a vision at the beginning of the generation to advance gaming in new ways. gamers didn't like this vision and tore them apart and sent death threats to poor old bill gates. and you know what? microsoft listened. they changed the always onlline, they're letting indie gamers make game. they're humble about their mistakes, even if they werent mistakes but just anger of gamers.

sony on the other hand are getting caught in their own web of lies. indie devs have to pay $2500 for a console to play games, which is insane, the 8gb ram is a lie and kaz has a meth problem apparently. it's going to come tumbling down when gamers realise the ps4 is just a big fat lie.

Somebody's mad. ;)

Grammatical errors aside, you didn't read the details. The dev kits are $2,500, but Sony has been lending them to many devs for nothing.

It's pretty much the only thing that differentiates the PS4's RAM from that of the Xbox One (other than X1's 3GB OS RAM partition), and devs seemed genuinely excited at the prospect of working with it in a next-gen console. I would consider it a selling point.

You know 8GB RAM doesn't preclude terrible games from being made right?

It also doesn't mean games will be any better than they would have been with less.

We've had some pretty amazing games this gen on consoles with less than 1GB. Hell, less than 512MB.

I just spoke to my source within Sony and while he's not 100% on all the details, I did manage to squeeze something out of him. Newegg apparently ran out of GDDR5 RAM and Sony has desperately been looking for a new source to buy in bulk. The predominant rumour within Sony is, they might downgrade to GDDR3.5 and limit to the amount to 3.5GB and 2GB reserved for the OS.

That sounds plausible to me but take it with a grain of salt. Trust me however, the guy is solid.

I permanently banned my 6 year old daughter from using the PS4 for mistakenly sending grief reports as it's too hard to watch or talk to her
Announcing that you are holding a scoop for a statement makes no sense.

If you have a scoop you are confident with you post it, and then later post the follow-up statement as another article, double-dipping on the storys hit count.

Holding an article/scoop whilst getting technical confirmation for an article you don't have full confidence in however, is a different matter. ;)

Maybe Newegg will have a sale and the price will go down. RAM can get cheap on Newegg.

That explains my canceled order of GDDR5 RAM.
