FRIDAYTON MK II: 5.5 million bears and salmon create unholy allliance to sack SONY HQ

People going crazy.

5.5+ (since it will be optimized going further, just like they did with ps360) gb for games going forward is an amazing amount of ram.

So where's Sony's statement?

Also lol at Sony still going 500mb more than the X1. Not that it's excused, I want my 6.5GB minimum Sony. Make it happen.

Ah, the news finally comes out. Not very good news at all, I think reserving that much memory for what should be a streamlined console OS isn't the way to go. However, if they can reduce it over time like they did with the PS3 (I don't remember the numbers) then that 4.5GB number should go up. Cancelling pre-orders over this, though? Talk about overreacting.

Instead of filling the thread with 10000000+ carbon copy complaints, why not tweet the guys over at Sony to try and get a response

Whoever else?

You and I may think it's stupid to waste power and resources on a pizza hut app that runs in the background of a gaming machine, but god dammit, every non-core gamer (99% of the gamers) wants it.
No, I'm more concerned with wasting power/resources WAY above and beyond what should actually be needed to accomplish the task. Running a few apps in the background shouldn't require this much overhead.

There may be some logic beyond this. Let's assume that Xbone's 3GB OS allocation is true. This means that all multiplatform games will have to run in and be optimized for a 5GB on Xbone. And what if some stuff from Xbone's OS features will get traction on the market? Isn't it smart to reserve the same amount of RAM for OS right now to be able to add the same features to PS4 OS if they'll prove themselves useful? And if not - no problem, PS4 still have the same gaming RAM amount available and SCE can increase this amount in the future in case none of Xbone's OS features turn out to be popular.

It's better to have options than be stuck in a situation where you can't add a feature to your OS because you gave all the RAM to games right from the start.

I'm not saying it's true though. Just that I'd do it like this if I was Sony.

Someone needs to dig up that Final Fantasy XIII betrayal post that Anihawk is parodying for the newer GAFfer out there. The reference is flying over a lot of heads.

Maybe it's because SONY is thinking about bigger things than pleasing basement-dwelling core gamers.
Gaming isn't about playing The Last of Us anymore. Gaming is about ordering pizza through xbox LIVE apps. Gaming is about talking to your mom through skype on a Friday night.
Future-proofing the system so that they can add more social features down the line.
Gaming is about dancing, singing, skyping with your mom and ordering pizza now. Sorry, but you core gamers are just gonna have to deal with it. There's not much you can do when you guys only make up 2 million out of the hundreds of millions of gamers on the planet.
Did you join GAF purely to post in this thread and tell everyone how terrible Sony's engineers are and that they need to get over their basement-dwelling selves?

The world doesn't want Pizza Hut apps on their consoles. The world has smart devices.

Not understanding all the crying going on here 5.5Gb is still an incredible amount, most PC games still don't access over 4Gb.

I don't think that mark cerny account is real, people have tweeted them, they know, hopefully they respond soon

Have we received any confirmation from any of the Sony insiders, like Thuway and the like? This new just sounds to dumb to be true.

GAF is funny lately

Bad news concerning MS or Nintendo=GAF ripping MS/Nintendo apart.

Good news concerning MS or Nintendo="They must be hiding something" or "It's not enough"

Bad news concerning Sony=A non-issue

There was an outcry when MS reserved 3GB, now it's suddenly not a problem? WTF

Where the fuck is Sony with the official word on this issue?

I just don't know you can go from a 512MB system reservation to 3.5GB.

Fucking ludicrous.

They have to find a way to match the XBO's instant switching. I'm wondering how much that initial reveal presentation for the XBO, regardless of how terrible it was, changed how Sony was going to approach their OS?

People STILLL going on about the video buffer? Lossless? GTFO.
It was revealed in Feb that the framebuffer goes right into an encoding chip that outputs MP4. Even at 1080p 15 mins, crazy bitrate, would barely be over 500mb. And there would be no point ever caching it in RAM when it could be spooled off onto the HD.

You technically couldn't have lossless, and it would be utterly POINTLESS if you could.
