CVG: Microsoft to reveal 'major 3rd party game' comes free with X1 [MCV: FIFA 14]

Dear god can you imagine the hilarity of that.

Though there would no way that R* or MS could keep that under there hat could there? But then you wonder why MS would let Sony get the jump on them with the GTAV PS3s. Maybe they had something else cooking with R*...

Spencer better have a GTA V tat.

Yeah MCV are terrible in my opinion. They don't vet sources well enough, if at all.

CVG does, so we'll see.

I think it is a bit late in the day for this. Pre-orders can be cancelled of course, but most people who want next-gen will be pre-ordered by now and with Sony not guaranteeing you a console if you pre-order now in the EU and MS ditching half of EU this year and also claiming that every console they'll be able to make will be sold going by their pre-order figures I can't see the benefit of this to them, I can't see it bringing in that many more sales - especially when they can't make enough to satisfy demand (according to them).

Also they're launching in November, and FIFA is out next month - many casuals who buy the FIFAs and CODs aren't going to wait.

Fifa? That's a very interesting move. Could be a very good one for MS/XBone too in EU. Damn I can just imagine the amount of money they must have spent on this deal tho...EA won't just leave that money on the table.

It probably won't of cost as much as people think, we are talking probably 10/11 months worth of potential sales (until Fifa 15 releases) on a brand new system, how many units would EA of expected to sell anyway in 10 months on a brand new system?.

It's obviously not FIFA. The game is coming to other platforms so it's not an exclusive. A few seconds of rational thinking is all it takes to come to this conclusion. I hope it's not that Ubi Kinect game lol. No idea what it could be. Maybe Football Manager?

Are we sure this isn't just something that's lost in translation, and it's not referring to the free game that people in delayed regions will get with their Xbone?

It's EA. There is a special GamesCom bundle being offered around Cologne now. PS4 or Xb1 with BF4, NFS Rivals or FIFA 14 for 399/499. Don't think retailrs are dropping these at a loss.

I feel as if these articles can't both be right. If it is FIFA, then it really isn't a "unique exclusive" (unless that was just poorly worded); and if it is a "unique exclusive", then it can't be FIFA. It seems as if the only sure thing is that the XB1 will have a game bundled with it at launch.

OTOH, MCV is a retail trade paper and this is something retail may be getting wind of now to prepare promo...

When it comes to retail orientated rumours I'd lend a little more credence.

Well 99% of his posts or of a negative vain. That being said he did say some good things about Black Tusk's game recently.

That doesn't make sense. He's a leaker, he reports facts. His opinion, if he ever states it, is irrelevant. His posts come off as negative because there's been a lot of negativity surrounding Xbox One since it was first revealed.

Yurop is Sony-land, no way MS could get EA to hand over FIFA exclusive modes and free game bundles without paying a very hefty sum.

Good for them, FIFA is shit.

Free FIFA pack-in: plausible
FIFA MS exclusive: impossible
Exclusive next-gen version of Lost Planet 3: priceless

Man, I can't believe how much money MS seems to be throwing at this whole thing to keep it afloat... 3 billion on the chip alone... all these "early DLC's" and if MS paid EA enough money to give FIFA to 8 countries for free? Jesus... how much money are they spending!?

If it's FIFA 14 that is huge, but I really doubt it as FIFA sells at least 5 million on 360....that is unless MS paid EA a shit ton of money (very unlikely).

Fifa would be a massive win for XBO in Europe alright.

I don't see how it's impossible, just insanely expensive. EA simply takes Fifa, slaps in some voice commands that no one will use and an import-your-face feature, calls it FIFA KINECT and gets a few dump trucks full of cash from MS.

It makes the One closer to PS4 in perceived value for fans of the franchise in Europe, is technically an 'exclusive' and still doesn't preclude EA selling Fifa on every other platform under the sun like they need to anyway.

They'd lose more if the Xbone sunk. Besides, this appears to be good for the gamer whose buying the One and good for the publisher.

Even if the XB1 comes with FIFA a PS4 + a copy of FIFA is still cheaper than an XB1.
I know it get's shit on by the core gamer but don't forget that the box comes with the Kinect sensor. With a free game it makes a pretty good deal, this will cost MS and reward buyers, for them it's a losing proposition in favour of shifting units.

Cool that they're providing more value. Still an uphill battle on price and limited launch countries though.

PS+ plus users will feel like they're going back to the days of the console pack-in game with a handful of IGC and F2P titles on day one for PS4. XB1 needed something like this.

And it can't be FIFA if its a third party exclusive, right? It's gotta be a Kinect game. Need to provide some proof of how voice and motion control is so Important To The Future of All Entertainment.

Not to be a negative nancy but why not just drop the price a let people choose the game? It's not like they're going to buy the console without buying a game.

That's not how these deals work. In order for the publisher to "lose" revenue from the pack in game they need to be compensated for it. Microsoft can't just pay off all of the publishers who have titles at launch.

That $3 billion price for the chips is a lifetime estimate for AMD on what they'll make on the Xbox One not how much Microsoft is spending upfront. They have $1 billion reported in games, $700 million in new infrastructure for Xbox Live and $100 million in the controller.

How is it a megaton? Maybe I'm missing something - won't it still be available on PS4 at the same time? AND cost you less for the machine + the game?

The assumption I have is the Xbox One has >$100 in profit margin

So its less about paying a shit ton and more about making less.

Securing FIFA as a pack-in game would be pretty impressive. It would also be very expensive for MS though, the brand name is huge and the game sells so well that I doubt EA would compromise much on the amount they receive per unit versus what they would get at retail; I imagine a game like The Fighter Within would be much cheaper and get people to use/attach Kinect.

It makes zero sense to me. If EA doesn't hold back the release of FIFA on PS4 till the XB1 is released, then you can still buy FIFA earlier and cheaper with the PS4 than the XB1.

Why not bundle an actual exclusive instead of a game that'll be released in September and potentially October for PS4?

There is no way it is FIFA by the way. EA has had the game available for preorder on all systems already. They wouldn't just retract those preorders or promotional materials. The exclusive has to be something that is either already a known exlcusive (DR3) or unannounced. Could be a Kinect FIFA Trainer, hence why MCV would report FIFA.
