Long queues of people waiting outside the stores for MH4 in Japan today

Took my 3DS out today for the first time in Japan. Walked like 15 minutes to and from the grocery store and had 9 street passes of people playing MH4 lol.

Why it take them so long to put ink in the printer?

Wow, seeing those pictures makes me glad I didn't go wait in line this morning and instead just preordered it online. I wonder what the lines were like in my area of Japan? Nothing like Tokyo I'm sure. Still it would be fun to wait in line again. Did it once for Xenosaga.

Every time I look at the Vita and it's two analog sticks I just close my eyes and shake my head. Man, the potential is wasted. Sony dropped the ball letting Nintendo swipe MH from them.

Why does every thread which mentions MH entail 'Vita this, Vita that'?

Isnt it time to get over it already. MH isnt coming to the Vita anytime soon. Only had two years to digest this.

Is it just me or is the lack of girls/women you ever see in these type of lines in Japan strange?
Around here at least its always about 4 girls to every 10 guys no matter the game, system etc.

Goddamn, I think I'd just buy the digital version if I saw a queue like that.

God damn. 3DS sales about to reach god tier.
They need to shift more than half a million units to reach 2012 3DS tier. The lines are impressive, but let's not go too crazy.

Not that I have a horse in this race, but what is stopping capcom from porting MH4 to Vita at a later date? I very much doubt it will happen because the Vita is dead, but nothing ive seen suggests that Nintendos MH was anything but a Userbase decision, not a paid exclusivity agreement.

Believe it or not, the only reason I think MH isnt on Sony platforms, is that Sony refuses to pay Capcom for it, especially after the SF x T debacle.

Poor vita owners. I know some of then are still salty. I never liked MH per se but even though the argument is decades old, it still sucks. Either way getting it on a 3DS isn't out the picture.. I'm sure almost all vita owners have a 3DS.

Edit: Why does people keep saying Sony should of Moneyhatt? Here's the thing... Capcom regardless of money has the right to say no in which I think they definitely did. Since Sony showed no support whatsoever in the West and with a list of other things, Capcom could have just used that as a reason to not team up with them, then seeing the sales of the Vita compared to the 3DS.. It was obvious and easy route forward. Nintendo probably didn't need to work hard to secure it. Sony messed it up themselves. No money was going to fix that and I'm sure Capcom well admitted that multiple times. It's was all about getting MH on a popular system that would guarantee sales. That's it.

That's what Capcom said, but MH was one of their more popular franchises back then, yet they decided to NOT make it in HD even if it was sub-HD. Sony could have helped them somehow like Nintendo has. Nintendo hosted the servers for online, the same happened for Ultimate and even published it in Europe. I think those kind of incentives, moneyhat or not, outweighted their loyalty towards Sony.

I think it's wrong to represent Capcom as having loyalty towards Sony; what they had was loyalty to the PSP userbase. They didn't assume the PSP userbase would necessarily translate to PS3 success or future Vita sales, and as such were open-minded about where to take the system next.

That's not to misrepresent Nintendo; I'm sure they lobbied hard - but I think Capcom were viewing it as a clean slate, not as them pushing against an existing loyalty.

I don't care about MH anymore but i hope this game meets Capcom's projections.I hear they are in a very bad financial state.

Seeing pictures like these kinda makes me sad. I wish we had the same kind of enthusiasm over here (UK) for video games. We usually get a couple of people standing outside a Game store for COD or Halo but that's it. Even the launch of GTA next week will be nothing compared to these pics.
Why do so many people in Japan do this, are they against ordering online? Or do they see queuing as "the thing to do" when a high profile title is released?
Anyway I love it, wish I was part of it!

The secondhand market is huge over there.

While their are people buying a new system with their game .their are many who buy the system and game second handed. then play and finish it and then resell both and get money again to buy something else.

100% digital would make this impossible.

I know your joking. but i honestly think Sony doesn't really care ATM.
would they have wanted to have those sales? sure .

But right now they are focusing on launching their new console and Vita TV .
Everything else is secondary right now.

MH4, Pokemon, 2DS, Zelda, etc. Something tells me the 500K difference won't be hard to reach. Real question is, how far beyond that can it go.

It always amazes me how popular this series is. Its essentially just a co-op boss rush.

Same here, I got bored of it very quickly. But the same can be said about things like Fifa or COD. Fifa for me can't touch the sheer joy of local multiplayer PES in it's PS2 glory days (PES4 is still my favorite soccer game ever).

If you're in Japan, what's there to be upset about a game coming to 3DS and not Vita... and how many people in Japan own a Vita but not a 3DS?

Same reason people get upset in the west when a company moneyhats a game into being exclusive.

People have only one console, or they prefer one over they other and think it stinks when the market is distorted through bribery.

In fact, taken to extremes and forgetting about games for a moment, that kind of behaviour is illegal. Paying companies to blackball competitors is anti-consumer. For example, Intel paid OEM pc makers in the mid 2000s to not use AMD chips in their machines despite AMD having the much better products, thereby pushing AMD into near bankruptcy a few years later.

its sad how a thread to celebrate the good sales of a game has become the usual vita bashing by some people
Really, come on people, it got old after the second page. Bet you wouldn't react like this when the PS4 launches and is competing with the WiiU.

This game will do very well, makes me even more interested in getting it when it's localized. (A WiiU port will also get bought if it ever gets made)
