True, and seemed like it's a game crashing mess, I think people underestimated what to expect since people who saw it thinks it a huge deal, even bigger than 720p embarrassment.

So the news that online connectivity, friend lists features such as requests, grouping and transitioning into MP games will not work for MONTHS after launch is not news?

Because its wild speculation, at best, plus software issues are fixable. Hardware issues aren't fixable and will likely only get worse as this generation continues.

Online play isn't broken. Party chat and app-switching authentication is. This sucks, but I was honestly expecting something much much worse.

Over the months I've become more interested in Mort's style of reporting than the content— It's becoming obvious that he's not handling the internet/social media spotlight very well, and it's pretty unfortunate.

The denial is strong in this thread.

If XBL has problems at launch, it will be a monumental fuck up. MS's defining achievement this gen has been it's online service, and it is reason for many preferring the XB1 this holiday. The COD/BF dudebro market is MS's bread and butter and failing those people will be a HUGE deal in the future success of situating the Xbox as the preferred online console of the generation.

It's hard for this to feel like a big deal until it's a reality. If we hear this shit come launch day, and the day after, then we're gonna see a shit storm of epic proportions.

Yep.

I find it pretty silly to panic about software releasing in a month. Beta is always a mess. 8.1 Windows was broken as shit, they fixed it pretty quickly.

So yeah, I'm not going to make much of a temporary problem.

ESRAM however will remain a problem for Xbox One till the end of the generation.

I guess Kevin Dent is having a meltdown. Guy made himself seem suspicious on GAF with some dubious sounding points on why he's "pro-xbox".

MS better get a handle on this quick, gamers may be willing to accept a week or two of live being borked but months sounds like a near death knell for the system's prospects.

EDIT: Seriously though I still don't know who this guy is. All I can find is he he heads a mobile social game studio or something? I don't understand his connection to xbox development.

Megaton if the statement was, "It won't be fixed in time."

Unless there's some real proof to these claims I would hope that people peg this purely as speculation and take it with a grain of salt until some hard proof surfaces.

No he's a cool guy. Just don't appreciate the over hyping that surrounds his stuff before he reveals it. I expected something bigger then this although it's bad and shameful on MS I thought his post would be worse.

i've played on both extensively, never saw xbl as having a significant advantage. maybe at the beginning of current gen, but definitely not now/

Hey, someone should add this to the quote in the OP, since people seem to be too lazy to read the whole thing. Online games are not having issues, parties/online UI features are. Yes this effects online play with stuff like invites, but a lot of posters seem to think the whole XBL is fucked.

The short story is that Xbox Live and the OS, especially in functions that involve XBL, are a complete fucking mess. One source says we aren’t talking weeks until it works correctly but “months.” Things like parties dropping people when moving from one thing to another. Connectivity issues. Missed invites. Friend requests not working, etc.

He then said “If all you are doing is running a game and that’s the only app things are fine.”
