I think people are needlessly worrying about stuff they have no control over. We're customers. It's not our jobs to worry about these things. And if it is a mess, we can just return the system.

I don't get the crazy concern. We're not MS employees or stockholders--I speak for myself here.

Customers should worry because they don't want to buy a product that doesn't work as advertised. Also how are you going to return it if it isn't physically broken? Most store return policies will not allow you to return it if the product has been opened unless its in exchange for another.

why are people melting down over some dude on here wanting a product to fail?

Nobody is melting down. That's a bit hyperbolic don't you think? People just call the guy out on his bullshit statement that X1 buyers should admit defeat if the system launch is as borked as this thread can lead us to believe.

EXACTLY!

Competition is the best thing about capitalism. It has companies fighting for the consumer. MS forgot to do that and Sony gave them a swift reminder. Current gen in the beginning it was reversed.

Competition is the life blood of the console industry. We need it. Without it gaming is doooooooooomedbender.gif

I agree with the competition part, but not th capitalism bit - the endgame of capitalism is monopoly, which is why we have so many laws that try to prevent that from happening.

Still, an absolute Xbox fail wouldn't be a good thing. A kick in the teeth to knock lose some hubris ... That I'm ok with.

If the xbox one crashes and burn do you think journalist are gonna blame gamers for being entitled to waiting them to take out the drm and therefore ruining their special butterfly?
Definitely. This whole launch was kind of eye opening to the jounalist side of gaming. Or lack there of. Thiss goes deeper then the xbox and ps4 development

There are probably a fair few people who would be happy for MS to drop out of the console game if it meant Valve's Steambox were to replace it. Between a Wii-U, a PS4 and a Steambox, there's a hell of a lot more variety in that combo than there is in having "HD twins" than there is currently.
I also wouldn't completely discount what's likely to happen on the "microconsole" front over the next couple of years.

Then Sony would eventually do the same thing. I am not advocating MS dominate the gaming world (In fact 100% the opposite.) I don't want any company to dominate. I want to see both of these companies go to all out war with each other for the consumer.

This is where we disagree.

If MS were to ultimately fail and leave the business, the market is too large and someone else would fill the void. Sony would not be left in the business alone, someone else would compete.

I'm all for competition. I'm also a believer in the survival of the fittest, especially in markets. As it stands, MS needs to change their focus or they'll wind up getting rolled this generation.

War of Tanks, all these current issues. 720p, deals not to mention other platforms (dedicated servers with COD), yield issues (shortly after the Tier 1 launch countries were halved), the Xbox 360's detailed specs, the new SDK having problems and less performance way before anyone uttered anything about launch issues and much more. But keep trying.

war of tanks I will agree too I don't kn0w how you would know about that...
the other stuff I'll just not comment on and just say

most leaks that have been worth their weight in whatever have been from random people or those hackers, ie xbones original specs, ps4 having 8gb gddr ps4's original specs etc

I agree. I don't like these sweeping generalizations. Also Jschreier, mad respect to you the last few days. Definitely be keeping a closer eye on you.

I respect him for coming here and actually posting instead of shit talking from twitter. I look at you Gies and Kuchera.

I don't care if MS fails, but the sheer disaster of recent Xbone news makes it impossible for me to feel and schadenfreude as regards Xbox fans.

I am an Xbox fan, even though I'm buying a PS4 first. But I do want to see some of the insulting fanboys at the Xbox One reddit eat crow.

That said, I like it in general when rude people eat crow. Always good times.

If this stuff is true its gonna be a terrible launch. But I think the xbox is too big to fail. Its probably gonna take a beating this holiday. Its gonna have a real problem with its image too. I'm guessing that by march they will have their stuff together and probably do a relaunch. The good news is that they will probably have some kind of ambassador program. I honestly hope they make it through this because competition makes all three consoles better. The reason the ps4 is so good is because of how good the 360 was last gen. Same thing will happen with the Xbox Two.

They are terrible on reddit. They yelled at me for canceling my preorder and waiting until this whole launch mess blows over.

How many members of the games press can you even name? Don't group hundreds of reporters into the same category based on a few people's tweets.

How dare you Scherier! You think you're better than anyone else, you press sneak fuck?! ALL MY MEN ARE DEAD :p

Still can't believe that was a term someone actually used

Well well. I don't remember the last gen war being so interesting. This only help me to not purchase all three console.Off topic I am also planning to switch from my lovely lumia 520 to an high end IOS /Android phone too since the xbox division treat gaming on the phone like a bastard child and not releasing completed games and keep removing games from the marketplace , not to mention years late ports if there are any ports.

That's just one part of that conversation, he added later that nothing is known.

@zjonesyy 20m
@jackfrags @preston647 no he is trolling , he just tweeted jack 7 mins before this tweet asking which was better ? So he has no clue :)
No, he didn't! Jack Frags didn't say anything afterwards.
Of course he has a clue. He played it and has tons of video material.

your certainly wrong there.
with how poorly Nintendo is doing and how expensive it is to manufacture videogame hardware I don't think anyone else would ever launch a home videogame console again

if one of the richest companies in America cant do it then who else could?
\there is a reason apple hasn't made a home console it is not economically viable. Most interested in games will focus on cheaply made mobile games with no creativity because that is where the money is.

I wasnt on here for the last gen war pre-launch... I imagine it was the opposite of this time around.. PS3 and Sony getting shredded to bits?

Competition though is what prevents monopoly. Even if a monopoly happens another product will eventually come around to attempt to dethrone it by providing a better experience at better value. Ex: Sony had monopoly last gen, 360 (Due to a number of factors not necessarily "Better" console) busted that monopoly this gen and led to a more even playing field.

A good kick in the teeth every now and again is always a good thing. The company has to come back swinging for your interests.

Then the entire thing starts all over again.

Because at that time it had competition. Add few more years without competition and PS3 happened 599$
The issue is quite the opposite. The problem with the PS3 is that Sony was trying to use it to compete on multiple fronts, just like MS is trying to do with the XBO. They both lost focus and couldn't as effectively manage the broadened scope of competition they went after.

I'd imagine a lot of those 'fans' are actually shills. If here at GAF we've had 'landslide' numbers of shills being banned, a site where we have an approval system in place, it wouldn't surprise me if the number of shills posting at an open forum like Reddit numbered far greater.

MS has changed their focus though (For now). They got rid of DRM. They responded to consumer backlash, and Sony's competition and have responded accordingly.

Not defending them by any stretch, but they are essentially doing exactly what they need to do to stay competitive.

Some people are frustrated that MS has not directly responded to the rumors. Honestly, I dont think they can. At this point, the waters are WAY too hostile to get into. I work for a small regional wireless carrier. Anytime we try to respond to an issue public, we get shat upon. Social media and forums are a very hard place to address the public.

I am not saying I DO know how MS should respond. I have no idea what they can do to dispel any of the rumors or negative thoughts right now.

I wasn't here for it, but I assume and hope that anyone who said that the PS3 was worth $600 at launch because it was much more powerful than the 360 got what they deserved.

Sure, but the asshole comments are getting voted to the top.

Then go to the PS4 reddit. It's mostly civil.

And again, I've never owned a Sony product until this gen.

Unless Sony or MS eff up in such a way that they can't fix issues period then I don't see what the big deal is. I didn't expect either console to work perfectly day 1.

Seriously. They're trying. I'm sure they'll get back on track just fine by the end of the year, and we'll see a generation similar to the last one.

Dumbest thing I have ever heard here. Actually wanting a console to fail. THOUSANDS of jobs at stake, and a product that some people enjoy. Frankly I wouldn't play games any where near as much if Halo wasn't a thing.

Just out of curiosity, would you feel this way if Nintendo or Sony had tried to pull this DRM crap?

If you don't want it don't buy it, but don't wish for it to fail. So stupid.

I don't want them to fail, but I want them very solidly in 2nd or 3rd place. Not because I hate XBOX (I don't) but because I EVERY company to realize trying to pull that crap is a very, very bad idea.

I bet you desperately wanted Steam to fail too?

No, but I must admit it'd be amusing for the PC Master Race crowd to lose their collective minds over it.

I was lurking then so not sure if i remember right, mostly PS3 have no games after launch and some Nintendo are going 3rd party / to fail wth the wii ( and DS (lol 2 screen , touch screen). I remember people warming up to xbox360 or maybe its just me since i was brought after MS announced a shit lot of Wrpg and JRPG.

Noting so extreme and negative too.

Off topic but Nintendo really dropped the ball on wii after 2010 :(
Still love that little system :D

The only thing I recall Sony getting called on prior to launch was $600. There weren't as many people distilling every bit of information though. This is definitely a new generation. I really think with so many third parties involved in the success or failure of a product you don't get to control the message nearly as much as you would like. People don't know shit about the new iOS device until a few weeks before launch and then boom they sell millions of $500 devices.

About 20-30. Maybe more but definitely can name about 25-ish.

I didn't expect to be quoted by you and put on the spot. Of course I'm generalizing/exaggerating. I don't expect my statement to be taken seriously by anyone. But if you're asking me if I think every single person in the games press is cut from the same cloth, then no, I don't think that.

The only response you will get from anyone in official capacity at MS is "Everything is fine, we can't wait to see what gamers think on 11/22."

"We will let the console do the talking when it's released"

Etc.. Etc.. Etc.. They are in a lose/lose/lose situation.

I'll wait till launch day to actually see what's going on, too many shills are overcrowding actual news about the systems.

Can we name all the crickets making noise in the absolute silence of the games press as regards these really big problems?

You guys have access to potentially damaging info and don't share it. This is across the board. Submit a reason for this near-universal silence or accept our speculation.

You guys have fallen down, don't blame us for noticing.

Edit: If either Sony or MS were to fail that would leave the other with damn near a monopoly. That is the LAST thing we want.

You're acting like a "damn-near monopoly" being created out of all of one console's competition fucking up too bad to gain any significant marketshare hasn't happened twice already. Both times, someone else came along and smacked them off the throne when they got complacent and started thinking they could get away with screwing consumers and/or developers.

When a company fucks up, it deserves the consequences of that fuckup, even if the consequence is them dying and their competition having a monopoly. I'm not saying MS has crossed that line, but "there will be a monopoly" and "people will lose their jobs" aren't valid reasons for them to stick around if they do.
