Yes. This is the man right here.

MS needs J Allard or a J Allard equivalent for the next Xbox.

Man. You have no problem taking a shit on the Wii U but if the Xbone is screwed up then "I'm sure they'll take care of it".

Your fanboy is showing.

Huh? I always thought Green Slime was pretty impartial.

Anyway, this is good news. I honestly expect it to take less than a year but we'll see. Can't believe they took such a huge step back from the 360 with this. Seems to be the case with a lot of things regarding the Xbox One.

Ok I'm done being the Pete Dodd Defense Force.

This info isn't false. Whether you want to believe that or not is now in your hands.

Im going to bed.

Any sort of case you could potentially build to counter these claims is going to be damaged just from the above two quotes.

My biggest problem with the whole ordeal is that they had a solid setup on the 360. Why couldn't they port that over to the XBOne and tout that as a positive feature?

My sources on this story is not CBoaT. A lot of us do chat. Thuway and I do. Some mods here and I do. They've told me things that I didn't know... but i've never posted any of that... as it's not my info. Everything I've posted is from friends I have in the industry.

You've utterly missed my point. When one of your sources is CBOAT, and when you go on record being confident in what you've heard because of that, it damages the credibility of you and your other sources. At this point it makes me ask "Is Mortimer so obsessed with e-fame and being an insider that he's going to report anything he hears?"

Ultimately, it just comes across as a lack of judgment.

The image is there for all to see. You've admitted and explained the situation. I'm a bit puzzled why you can't see that people would be utterly skeptical in light of that, regardless of past successes.

I am guessing the reason this might take a long time is how the party system is used in game. The parties become part of a game party when someone starts up a game.. and even goes as far as to invite those in the party if someone joins a match.

That is at the OS level working with the games. I understand what they were going for it just is not ready for prime time and they need to revert to 360 parties with the better voice quality. But based on how it is at a system level and built into the games.. I bet this will be a challenge and no doubt a big reason why it might take some time.

Let's step back from the original rumor for a second. Let's deal with facts.

-Many websites and users have shown their disdain for the current Party system.

-Major Nelson has publicly acknowledged this criticism, and has mentioned he will "report back to the team" about the problems. He also mentioned no timeframe would be available at the moment, but that they're hard at work updating the firmware.

-There are other more serious issues that need to be fixed before Party systems will be addressed, such as only having 2.1 sound when using the HDMI input on XB1, among other things.

-The overhaul of something like this will likely take a lot of time. The holidays are approaching, so the earliest we would see this fixed? Spring timeframe sounds about right. It could be summer, depending on what else they have prioritized.

-This rumor states all of this, plus the potential of it slipping into late 2014.

So basically this rumor isn't totally "out there" or "blatantly false" considering we have solid evidence that this is happening. I'm not sure why people are getting extremely angry. Do they want the rumors to be false, and that MS is perfectly happy with the Party system and don't intend to fix it at all?

I didn't miss the point. I clearly stated that I've never repeated a cboat (or any other "insider") scoop as my own and that all of mine have come from people inside the industry. Why did you choose to skip that part of what I wrote?

I think you don't like what Im saying and think that attacking me will make it wrong... but that's not how it works.

The point of your post is to imply a false equivalency between a guy who is paid to spin and flat out lie for Microsoft, and famousmortimer. I didn't miss anything

Sure you did. Why would I trust anyone that outright claims to be a Sony fanboy with info about Microsoft? Would you trust an Xbox Fanboy with Sony info? Of course you wouldn't. And neither would I.

It is horribly confusing to someone coming from 360 and it should not have been. Now that I have gotten used to it, it's not that bad, but I can't think anyone looks at it and says "wow, this works much better than it did on 360".

The single biggest bug to me, is not being able to turn party chat on while BF4 is running. If I say "Xbox go to Killer Instinct" I can join party chat then go back to BF4.

Because he posted info about bugs in a beta, made a big stink about it taking months to fix, then corroborated Thuways rumors and it turned out everything they said was wrong was actually working at release. And now he's claiming he was right.

I guess not since FM admitted the info came from Cboat. At least Cboat had the sense to admit it would probably be fixed by the time it shipped.

can u not read johnny?

For fuck's sake how many times do I have to explain this.

Thuway makes a bunch of tweets with info he got in a PM from CBoaT. I know this because I got the EXACT same PM from CBoaT.

Now let's break down my tweet:

"For the record... everything @thuway is tweeting right now is what I heard as well."

TRUE! Because I got the PMs from CBoaT.

"So either verification... or we have the same sources."

We have the same source. It's CBoaT. SO THAT MEANS IM NOT VERIFYING IT. It's verification ***OR*** we have the same sources. It was the latter.

I did pass on, in that thread - which, mind you, was after it was proven that snap was NOT broken, i said that I had heard it was but never posted it because it didn't seem like a big deal to me.

I've been wrong about multiple things this year if you guys want to nail me on something.... it's there. But this isn't one of them.

Fuck I need some sleep.

lol holy cow

It's just way way too salty around here

It's a rumor..no need to attack Mort over it. Some of you need to act a bit more mature about this. It's not like Xbone OS is working great or anything to make you doubt these claims. If you don't believe the rumor that's fine, time will tell if it's true or not.

What's sad is how many things they were the industry leader on with the 360 disappeared on Xbox One and actually took a lot of steps backwards - cant see a list of people you just gamed with, can't accept a game invite if you dont accept it during the notification, have to sync achievements ala Playstation. Who's responsible for these braindead decisions?

i had no idea you could not accept it after, just during the notification?

That is bullshit and a step back

This sounds about right. I'd vouch for late august 14, if anything.

I really want to see this OS shit fixed.

I'm no developer...

Would games then have to be patched to work with the new system? That's what it sounds like to me. The "may take up to a year" may account for the additional time it'll take for the game developers to actually incorporate the changes into new and past titles.

I'm fine with the OS as it is, everything works as it's supposed to - for me. But if they can make it better, I'm totally on board. Bring it on. Why not?

Once the Kinect didn't recognize "Xbox Go Netflix" because I farted while speaking, kind of giggled too.

Doubt they do. It hasn't happened before with 360 OS changes. The closest thing I could think of is people patching games to add Avatar Awards. That's about it.

When did he say that?

Why wouldn't you trust famousmortimer's info on this topic when he talked about the problems with the party system well before launch?

“Let me get into some technical detail regarding it – on 360, the OS handles all of the party and chat functionality. All you do is hook up the XBL VOiP OS API into your game, and it does most of the work for you. With it results in is a shared experience across multiple entertainment. If you’re watching movies or playing games, you can do it together. However, this system is entirely different on Xbox One. So, lets say me, you, and Thuway have xbox one’s that are online. We are signed in our profiles. Sitting at the home screen, we are considered to be in a “Xbox Party” on the server. There are no more ‘party leaders’. With that said if any one of us decide to start a game, the party is shifted over to that game’s party system. Each game now has their custom written VOIP.”

“In essence, it is almost EXACTLY how it was on the PS3, and it is in those API “handshakes” that is breaking the online experience.”

http://mobile.theverge.com/2013/12/3/5170246/xbox-one-party-chat-problems-microsoft-fix

Microsoft says it’s working to fix several issues with its Xbox One party-chat service. The new and improved chat, that debuted as a separate app on the console, allows gamers to chat with up to seven friends during gameplay. However, Xbox One owners have reported several issues with the service, including the inability to connect to friends on occasions and restrictions on using the service while playing certain titles.

"I had a meeting today about much of this and I can say that things will get better," says Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), in a post on Reddit. "I can't offer a timeline of a list of what will be addressed first, but we are aware of the issue and things will get better." Microsoft’s party-chat service has changed significantly from the Xbox 360 version, forcing users into a separate app that snaps to the side to manage parties. It’s not clear if Microsoft plans to return to the style of system used on the 360, but the company is promising to address the connectivity issues at some point in the future.

NO DASHBOARD UPDATES JUST YET

Microsoft has not yet issued any significant dashboard updates to the Xbox One since its release on November 22nd. The software maker is expected to improve and tweak the dashboard over the coming months, with larger updates codenamed "Threshold" planned for spring 2015

One have two major qualms about GAF insiders including Mort:

1. They aren't insiders and they know far less than any actual insider does.

2. At this point anyone talking to Mort has to know that he is going to share that info with everyone, which calls into question their motivation and also makes it very easy to use him as a conduit for information they want public.

That first issue is just one of somewhat misleading billing. The second one is the key. Judith Miller repeated Iraq information from anonymous sources that told her exactly what she wanted to hear and exactly what they wanted the public to hear. In short she was used, or allowed herself to be used, to convey messages to the public as part of a PR campaign.

When someone tells Mort than the XB1 is unstable and crashing a lot who are they and why are they saying it?

Are they an MS employee that loves MS and the XB1? Probably not. Are they a disgruntled MS employee, someone who wants to see the XB1 fail, a guy at a developer competing with the XB1, someone who gets a kick out of seeing the information they shared go viral? Probably something along those lines.

Any time anyone shared secret info with Mort they must be thinking about it going public and what that means, and must want it to go public. Maybe it started as a guy who knows some people in the industry who share tidbits, but at this point it has to be people using him to get across what they want.

Simply repeating information from anonymous sources is extremely prone to abuse. The guy who said that the XB1 was very unstable - what happened to him? Nothing. He got the message he wanted out there, and when it turned out to be false there were no repercussions.

Edit: A lot of what Mort says comes off to me as basically true, but worded more dramatically than is warranted to make fairly normal issues sound major. It's like how Kotaku contacts the 8 most disgruntled laid-off workers at a dev and prints their office gossip as some sort of expose, billing the sort of stuff you hear at literally every developer (the upper management is fickle and asks for irrelevant changes!) as serious issues.

Holy shit at this thread and mort having to defend himself. MS knows they fucked up and they are working on it. However, it will take time. Sounds reasonable to me. I don't understand the reason for all this salt.

Hey Nelson get dat Digital Dolby 5.1 out the door first, c'mon bro, don't sweat the party system, get your priorities in order thanks.

Kinda sucks that a cool guy like pete gets so much shit for sharing some stuff here. I guess I kinda understand why gaming centric forums have a bad rep. Who needs that aggro.
