PS Vita PCH-2000 | Light and Slim. 6 Colors. No More OLED, Instead Cute Penguins

Hi! Can someone with a PS Vita 2000 tell me the FCC ID on the back of the unit? I'm importing one & Fedex needs the FCC ID for some reason. Thanks.

EDIT: Never mind! Thanks, though.

The OLED screen itself is better (besides oversaturation of black and the mura), but I like everything else about the 2000 better and after a couple of weeks with the 2000, I'd say that I certainly prefer it. Battery life, size, and weight, as well as the slightly better feel of the buttons (and L and R triggers) win out for me.

No issues with the LCD screen whatsoever.
How about the yellow tint?

How do you know if its charging? I think the PS button doesn't have an LED anymore.

Also are there ghosting on the LCD screens?

This is poor advice as you're not just buying a screen, you're buying a complete portable console and you should really consider every aspect of the new model compared to the old one when making that decision.

Vita TV + the 2000 will be a great combo for those who want to experience Vita games on a high quality large screen HD display at home, then play the same games on the go on the very comfortable 2000, with its light weight, thinness, improved form factor, extended battery life and other notable enhancements over the OG model.
This puts it very well, nicely said.

There are the extra LEDs on the top for power, notifications and charging:

And from this thread:
The screen looks far better in person than in any pictures or video posted online, which is why I am not going to bother posting pictures here. The colours are more subdued compared to the 1000's OLED, but it is a sharp, vibrant, high quality LCD with no ghosting or other noticeable flaws. Great viewing angles too, and no perceptible input lag. Side by side, the main difference I notice between the 1000's screen and the 2000's screen is the 1000 is brighter, with colours that feel oversaturated with a bit too much contrast. The 2000, on the other hand, sometimes feels like the colours are a bit too subdued. Something in between the two screens would be ideal, but this is really just being nitpicky. They are both great screens in their own ways. In fact, I have found PSP games look better on the 2000's screen, perhaps because the OLED exposes more of the artifacts/problems with the original graphics?

What are the chances for Sony to use a Triluminos display (like the Xperia Z1) on the next Vita model (Vita 3000) or is this not be possible due to the costs?

Went ahead and ordered one (white on white). Wish they had something in a darker red (ヽ´ω`)

Jeez, the blue/white value bundle is already sold out on Amiami. Guess it's time to shop around and see if anyone else has it for a somewhat reasonable price.

I can't wait to see more comparisons between the two. I really like the design for the new model more.. but I love my OLED screen. Well, whenever this comes to the USA, I'll keep an eye on it.

Since we have new people looking at the thread here are the impressions I posted before with a bunch of hands on videos:

Played a few more hours last night before bed. Played some Hotline Miami, Uncharted, Lumines, Resident Evil 2, Spelunky, and EDF 2017. Since people are still asking here are some bullet points on the PS Vita PCH-2000:
Speakers are louder by about 25% (as shown in 4th video)
Headphone output is louder/more powerful by 25%
The screen looks much better in person than on a camera
Colors are still very vibrant (see video 4)
It fits well in old cases since it has the same width
Wifi seems better and FASTER (see video 4)
64GB card isn't faster
The new cases for the Vita kind of suck. (Video 1 and 3)
Brightness is more than bright enough
I have no problem retiring my OLED
Overall it is a beautiful console with a lot of improvements. I will not be missing the OLED.

Here are the other 3 unboxing and hands on videos I did if you missed them:

So there has been no announcement for a North American version yet??

Unfortunately, no. It'll probably come some time in the future, but it'll be a while (early next year?). That's why I've ordered my new Vita directly from Japan.

Cool videos, thank you for taking the effort!

Took the plunge as an early Christmas present to myself. Have the reversed X and O buttons ever given anyone problems, or is it only a matter of getting used to them in menus?

It arrived. Holy hell is this a sexy device, and it's so liiiight did they replace the insides with air? This thing better turn on when its done charging.

What are some good places to buy a 2000 from for importing to the US?

I got mine from NCSX for about $240, shipping included. Nippon Yasan and Amiami are apparently good/reliable places, too, but Amiami tends to sell out quickly and take a while to restock.

You can of course buy from Amazon marketplace or ebay, but the markup there seems to be higher. Play-Asia is also overpriced.

Thanks! Nippon-Yasan looked great until I realized that they don't use SSL certificates on their site. I know NCSX is reliable, so I'll probably get it from there.

as for the current deal of the original, do u think i better take it , or wait till 2000 gets around?

i need a vita, but not now, only 3 games in mind currently, but for this price it's either take it or leave it cause i know its original price would be around $222

Does anybody else think the color temp on the OLED is too blue? The new one while not being a super high-end product actually looks closer to calibration standard D65 but I cannot tell by screens in truth.

Personally I don't miss the OLED of the first model at all. The 2000 is a much slimmer and ergonomic model. Also there are so many improvements from the buttons to battery life to mic output.

Many thanks to AtomskEater and everyone else in this thread -- UPS delivered mine from NCSX.com early on Wednesday. That was great timing, as I've been able to play it every now and then this holiday weekend. I got the blue/white 2000 and I love the look. Most of my portables and other electronics are black, so this is different and provides a nice contrast. I like the weight and feel compared to the original model, and the screen is not an issue with me. I've played a bit of Tearaway, Gravity Rush, and Soul Sacrifice so far, and I think I'm really going to like all of them.

A note on warranties: NCSX.com ships and replenishes stock quickly, and may be one of the best options for importing a Vita 2000 in the US. They stated that they will work with Sony Japan to cover the warranty, should anything happen within the first year.

Thank you all again for the advice.

Have there been many reports of dead/stuck pixels? I'm thinking about importing a 2000, but I'm afraid of getting stuck with a unit with dead pixels.

Well this is alarming. My vita won't come out of sleep mode. Holding down the power button doesn't do anything, the green indicator is on but the screen won't turn on. Guess I'll have to let the battery run down, however long that will take. In the event that something is seriously wrong with it, I dont suppose SoA will be able to perform repairs. :'P

Regarding stuck pixels, I haven't heard any reports of it. My screen was dead pixel free, I'm sure it happens but pretty rarely?

I had this happen to my (original) Vita. I let the battery drain, charged up again and never saw it happen again.

I know the popular opinion is to buy the current Vita while they're still available, but I'm actually holding off for the new version. Everything except for the screen seems to be better on the new one, and even that is arguable because I don't want to deal with the downsides of OLED, especially burn-in. For some reason I thought it already launched over here, but when I went to stores, I saw they were all still the OLED version, and then found out the new version only launched in Japan. With the way this system sells in the West, I wonder how long the current stock will last.

Good review, particularly this part:

Yeah. Many complained at the Nexus 5 for having a "washed out" screen when it was in reality really well calibrated. Here it is on the left/top compared to a random AMOLED (Moto X).
Saturationschart.png
saturationschart.png

Being off the scale isn't good when the software doesn't thinks the peak is lower and oversaturates. We see some LCD panels (LG G2 as an example) peak at the same accurate value as other LCD panels, but hit that peak faster to look oversaturated.

A couple of weeks ago famousmortimer said that he has heard that the 2000 should come over around January/February, he just said it during a stream and didn't give any indication to the state of his source.

I got my 2000 from NCSX today. I haven't really played it yet, but I've tried a couple games side by side with my 1000. So far, I really like what I've seen of it. I can't believe how much thinner and lighter it is than the 1000. It's even more of a difference than going from PSP 1000 to PSP 2000. I like the screen, too. Everyone's been going crazy over the OLED, but I think I like the 2000's LCD screen more. I definitely like the colors on it more than the 1000's OLED.

Sorry to bring back from the dead, but can you comment on the shoulder buttons and the quality of the new casing, is it similar to the PSP 3000 plastic, also is the front touch screen seem cheaper or same quality as the 1000? Thanks!

I've had mine for a while now and I absolutely love it. Apart from the LCD screen, it is better than the 1000 in every way.

All of the buttons are more satisfying to press. The new casing feels more comfortable to hold, especially with the more rounded edges. Never had a PSP3000, so I can't compare. The touch screen is as responsive as before, but the colors just can't compete with the 1000's OLED screen. I'm really missing that OLED! The only other complaint I have (and a very minor one at that) is that the rear touch pad feels a bit too small now. But that's mostly because I've gotten used to the old version.
