Hyrule Warriors (Zelda Musou) (Zelda Dynasty Warriors) announced

Interesting!

Did you play either of the PS3 versions of WO3? Curious if all have their own issues (do all have bad pop-in?), and how much extra content is in Ultimate? Nothing I'll miss?

The PS3 version of WO3 runs fine, it has a bit of slowdown when a lot of enemies appear on the screen but it isn't anything major.

The PS3 version doesn't have awful pop in. Both versions run fine, but both will have slowdowns where there are tons of enemies.

And that's the PS3 version of the first release right? So it seems tech-wise they're no roughly identical, so not really like other Wii U ports that seemingly got the short end of the stick.

Does WO3 have English voice acting?

Sweeeet.

Probably a way for Nintendo to get some different fighting/battle mechanics into the next Zelda game!

Graphics are a little unstylised which is weird but like the less bulkier look, definitely needs refining but a cool announcement for something that's in its early stages.

Damn, the cheesy voice acting in SW2 and such watching on YouTube is a riot, why have they shied away from that?

The main games usually have dubs, I assume they skipped out on one for WO3 because of the amount of characters/they didn't seem to confident on the western release.

I think it'll be fun for what it is. Some people are being too hard on it. If Metroid can do pinball, I don't think a Zelda musou is that big of a stretch.

Anyway I hope it does end up being canon with a decent story. How long do these types of games usually last in the story mode?

Depends on how many factions there are. I'd say maybe around 8-12 hours. 15 at most This isn't including the ton of replayability there will be though.

I also find it interesting you seem to be locked to one character as opposed to switching between 3 characters.

I can't imagine Link is the only one.

That's my hope. That would be the perfect place to put it really.

The kingdom looks pretty well established already. I mean, I know they completely remodeled the dungeons from ALttP in only a few hundred years, but building a huge castle takes time.

Link with a scarf reminds me of the noncanon Skyward Sword prequel manga:

But Zelda being in the game and Hyrule existing makes it unlikely to be before SS.

Why is warrior's orochi 3 hyper still 60 bucks on the wiiU eshop?what does tecmo take me for? Did they not know I was going to buy this game just now thinking it was at most, gonna be 30 dollars?

They should have reduced the price there long ago. If you can find it in retail it should be 19 dollars most.

Well Hylia looks like Moe Zelda, and we don't know if it's actually Hyrule

That's what made it the best thing to announce first. Like, what the heck?! Can't wait for more info on this game.

"Welcome to this Nintendo Direct, here's a trailer for a game you never heard about, you never knew existed and never knew you wanted."

That's pretty much how the Direct started.

After a huge bang I expected more big announcements, at least a big brand-new game to finish, but the rest kinda paled you know? :( We all expect MK8 and Smash.

The bait and switch on the Smash trailer was brilliant.

... I would have liked Kirby in Mario Kart, though. :(

We can only hope.

My theory? What we saw with Link switching his items/weapons is akin to DW7/8's own weapon switch system, and would be something accessible to every playable character. Of course, each of those chars still has a default weapon of their own that is exclusive to them. (Ex: Zelda can perhaps use the same items, but can't use the Master Sword.)

To say the least, I would think that'd work out well, if indeed Link is meant to not be the only "warrior". But we'll certainly see, won't we?

...........................This is a REAL THING?

When I first read about it a few days ago I thought I must have been high or dreaming. Waking up groggy after a long night and seeing the game's title posted in the morning I was totally WTF

Kinda excited because it will be the first "Warriors" game I will have ever played.

This could be real good for a "dying franchise" like DW if it exploded in sales...we can expect yearly entries.

Or it might hurt the Zelda franchise like what Metroid other M did to the Metroid franchise..

Now that I think about it. This is the first Warriors Spin Off based on another videogame as opposed to an Anime, or Historical event right?

Or was there another one?

We have no proof that Other M has damaged the franchise other than internet opinion-mongers trying to make it so.

Other M was a mainline game, this is a spin off. The Zelda CDI games didn't damage the brand, I doubt this could be worse then those.

I think that's true. Closest thing would probably be the Takamaru cameo in SW3.

Well sales AND fans recepution has spoken.

But the point is did Other M irreparably damage the Metroid brand, or was it just a situation where Nintendo was largely done gambling on it before Other M? The series was never as strong a seller as Metroid fans would have liked. As such, I would argue that we were never going to get Prime 4 (for instance) anyway. Or Dread.

Sales for Metroid have been going down since the first of the Prime series. Whether not Other M was really damaging to the franchise or not won't be known until the next game of the series is released. Fan reception towards the game may not have been great but that doesn't mean they're still not fans of the Metroid series.

Dead Or Alive and Ninja Gaiden character also appear in Musou games, but yeah I didn't count the cameos, was talking of the first time a musou game is based on a video game franchise.

You are right. But I can't help but feel that this game might take some of the spotlight for the next mainline Zelda game. (That is if Nintendo decided to show it next year)

I guess we will have to wait and see if Nintendo is really done with Metroid franchise.
They seem to be done with many Like Starfox. But they might continue with spinoffs like that..minimal risk+ testing the waters for different genres Nintendo can get into.

nintendo has said like twice that they are not done with the metroid franchise, if you paid attention to the last 3 years metroid also still gets top billing in dozens of promotional material and such

I don't necessarily think that they're "done" with Metroid. I just think that it's failed to perform as well as they would have liked. I think a game like Other M is really something that only had the potential to help, and that it's commercial/critical failure (and I'm just guessing at the former as I don't have good sales figures for it) at worst just confirmed what they already knew: Metroid is a fairly niche series. But that doesn't mean that I think they are done with it.

Considering how different from the other game in the series Other M was, I don't think Nintendo will come to the conclusion that because that failed, future Metroids similar to Prime or Super would fail too.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. Thank you.

I honestly hope this is a "Zelda Generations" type game with minimal story that just kind of takes you through familiar environments through new gameplay and visuals. Like we get to see The Great Sea/Forsaken Fortress, Termina, Skyloft, OoT/TP Hyrule, etc with modern visuals.

I don't think that's going to be the case. I don't know if the game will be canon but I'm pretty sure its going to have an original story with that blue scarf Link has on being of some importance. The scarf was shown in the Japanese logo and any time an item appears in the logo its important to the story of that Zelda game.

I wonder if the story of this game is going to be considered canon and have a place in the timeline. I don't think it will though because wouldn't that make it a "main" Zelda game?

no... sorry but that wont happen. the games are not even similar from a gameplay perspective.

Link = average/all arounder (Master Sword exclusive)
Zelda = range based (Light Arrow exclusive)
Shiek = speed based
etc

I just hope its the dw battle system with all the different combos and not the shitty one with just like 3 variations of the same crap

It would reduce this from buy to rent for me.
