Oath Keepers to Arm 50 Black Protesters in Ferguson with AR- 15s

It's like a checkmate against racists. If police open fire, they're racist. If gun control laws happen because black people are open carrying guns now, policymakers are racist.

Kind of smart.

Stuff's been cracking through on the libertarian part of the conservative side re: the local government pillaging the citizenry-that RedState article.

This is...not exactly how I would have expected momentum to play out. It kinda makes sense though- on these issues the easier things to get progress are the ones that affect all races on various marginal levels (bodycams, for instance), rather than the ones unique to black people.

Guns are the main power that the police have over black people. The oath keepers want to conduct an experiment where that power imbalance is leveled. The purpose of this experiment is to see if the police will behave differently in the face of armed protesters. Will the police be more aggressive or less? Will they be more respectful or less?

The oath keepers view this as not just a racism issue but also an issue of government authority. Police brutality is not restricted to black people. The oath keepers want to find out what the police will do when their authority is challenged by an armed group.

What??? Are you a friend of mine on Facebook or something?

I think what people are hinting at is that the Oath Keepers are arming black people so the self-fulfilling prophecy of black people who carry getting shot happens...the sentiment I'm getting from some replies in the thread is that the oath keepers want the people they arm to get shot. On purpose.

The Oath keepers must be democratic plants. Like, these guys must have Bill Clinton and Trump on speed dial or some shit lol. That or the Ferguson police must be operating the wackiest sting operation this country has ever seen.

I am so looking forward to FOX News' reaction to this. Expecting a fuckload of hypocrisy.

Pretty much page one of the Black Panther handbook.

Seems like more of a PR stunt for the Oath Keepers than anything else in this context, though.

Are they trying to get black people shot or what? Because this is how you get black people shot. A black man can't even carry a toy gun in a store in this country without getting shot, what the fuck do they think is gonna happen when they give black guys real guns?

right cause mike brown would have just what whiped out his piece and asserted his 2nd amendment rights like a fucking BOSS if these dudes were around 12 months ago...

Uhm, mind you, i'm from germany, but this doesn't sound like a good idea. Fewer weapons on all sides would be better.
This just sounds like a horrible "cold civil war", when each side starts to up their arms ...

Oath Keepers? Uhh, that's not the crowd you want to fall in with.

THE .50 CALIBER Bushmaster bolt action rifle is a serious weapon. The model that Pvt. 1st Class Lee Pray is saving up for has a 2,500-yard range and comes with a Mark IV scope and an easy-load magazine. When the 25-year-old drove me to a mall in Watertown, New York, near the Fort Drum Army base, he brought me to see it in its glass case—he visits it periodically, like a kid coveting something at the toy store. It'll take plenty of military paychecks to cover the $5,600 price tag, but he considers the Bushmaster essential in his preparations to take on the US government when it declares martial law.

His belief that that day is imminent has led Pray to a group called Oath Keepers, one of the fastest-growing "patriot" organizations on the right. Founded last April by Yale-educated lawyer and ex-Ron Paul aide Stewart Rhodes, the group has established itself as a hub in the sprawling anti-Obama movement that includes Tea Partiers, Birthers, and 912ers. Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, and Pat Buchanan have all sung its praises, and in December, a grassroots summit it helped organize drew such prominent guests as representatives Phil Gingrey and Paul Broun, both Georgia Republicans.

Now Pray is both a Birther and a Truther. He believes he is following an illegitimate, foreign-born president in a war on terror launched by a government plot—9/11. He admires soldiers like Army reservist Major Stefan Frederick Cook, who volunteered for a deployment last May and then sued to avoid it—claiming that Obama is not a natural-born citizen and is thus unfit for command. He spends idle hours at the now-quiet base researching the New World Order and conspiracies about swine flu quarantine camps—and doing his best to "wake up" other soldiers.

Where they dovetail with Ferguson:

Rhodes responded with a breathless column starring a despotic president, "Hitlery" Clinton, in her "Chairman Mao signature pantsuit." Would readers, he asked, obey orders from this "dominatrix-in-chief" to hold militia members as enemy combatants, disarm citizens, and shoot all resisters? If "a police state comes to America, it will ultimately be by your hands," he warned. You had better "resolve to not let it happen on your watch."

"You need to be alert and aware to the reality of how close we are to having our constitutional republic destroyed," he said. "Every dictatorship in the history of mankind, whether it is fascist, communist, or whatever, has always set aside normal procedures of due process under times of emergency...We can't let that happen here. We need to wake up!"

He laid out 10 orders an Oath Keeper should not obey, including conducting warrantless searches, holding American citizens as enemy combatants or subjecting them to military tribunals (a true Oath Keeper would have refused to hold José Padilla in a military brig), imposing martial law, blockading US cities, forcing citizens into detention camps ("tyrannical governments eventually and invariably put people in camps"), and cooperating with foreign troops should the government ask them to intervene on US soil. In Rhodes' view, each individual Oath Keeper must determine where to draw the line.

From the podium, ex-sheriff Mack told the crowd that he wished he'd been the officer ordered to escort Rosa Parks off the bus, because not only would he have refused, he would have helped her home and stood guard there. These days, he said, it's not African Americans who are under attack, but Christians, constitutionalists, and people who uphold family values: This time "it's going to be Rosa Parks the gun owner, Rosa Parks the tax evader, or Rosa Parks the home-schooler."

More guns, stop big brother. The right-wing loves them because Obama's in office, but that would turn if a GOP president was sitting in office.

As a non-American, I don't understand the mindset of any black Americans who are pro-gun. The black community in the US is disproportionally impacted by gun related deaths, both from crime and the police.

Fighting for your 2nd amendment right to bear arms seems like it should be way down at the bottom of the list of civil rights to address in the light of all the other forms of discrimination still being faced.

If the black people carried guns they would be in a position to return fire.

lol people in the US really say things like that, though.

as fellow non-american, looking at gun violence numbers in europe vs usa, i can see clearly why guns are very hard to get license for in Europe and almost impossible to get license to carry in public. We are better off for it.

Whatever the OKs agenda here, I'm kinda in support of this...

Gun laws in the US are out of control, but the problem of deep-seated racism and racism oppression through fear is very real. A demonstration like this could actually work and send out a very strong message provided the OKs maintain a tight line in the march, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the black protesters and not ducking out at the first sign of trouble.

The cops wouldn't risk the PR fail of opening fire on a protester group made up of black americans and white OKs, since it would be nigh impossible to spin it as "black gangbangers open fire on police during a racially-fuelled protest rally".

The OKs presence also makes it impossible for the media to spin a group of 50 armed black protesters as "OMG! Armed black militia invades Ferguson protests" or "Police engage terrorist army at Ferguson protest rally".

Their (the OK's) goals may not be aligned with the black protesters in Ferguson, but it's undeniable that there is a lot of mutual gain to be had here provided it doesn't all go tits up...

It makes sense for the Oath Keepers to align with the group that is actually oppressed by the (local) government, as it proves their points and can get new members.

Not all that surprising if you understand that the Oath Keepers would prefer every citizen defend the Second Amendment and demonstrate by open carrying, regardless of skin color. I am, however, surprised that the Huey P. Newton Gun Club hasn't been out in Ferguson considering they're trying to become a mainstream, black, NRA alternative.

What could go wrong?
This doesn't seem to be a good idea. Black men with guns gives the cops more reason to shoot them and claim self defense. All life matters so why give anyone an excuse to terminate it. There has been to much innocent blood already spilled.

Black people are people just like you and me and they deserve the right to sit at the front of the bus with their AR-15's.

This sounds dangerous as fuck.

Please don't do that. I don't want to see "50 thugs shot by officers in Ferguson" on the news.

Fixed. I've had Fox PR training.

Pretty sure their main power sources are: The Willpower and support of America regardless of what they do, The federal and state governments, and those pesky laws that target blacks disproportionately.

I understand your reticence but personally I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. I've been wanting to see exactly this (more black folks open carrying) for a while now.

And suddenly gun reform will be popular! Great plan! Black people with guns is as scary now as it was back then when the Black Panters did had them. If the Panther party could get the NRA to support gun control imagine what the BLM movement could do.

This is the most transparent shit ever.

50 black people armed with AR-15s? They've claimed self defense for toy guns and skittles. No way this ends well.

The right to bear arms is the last line of self-defense against tyranny;
How can people honestly believe this in the 21st century? You're little band of merry men armed with AR-15 couldn't do shit against the U.S. military. At best they could conduct a small scale insurgency but without the support of at least part of the military or the full backing of foreign governments they have no chance of overthrowing the shackles of tyranny.
