What do you think of the people who use the pejorative "SJW?"

People who say things like SJW, White Knight, Cuck, etc, are people who I have no business with.

All opinions invalidated, no discourse necessary.

I will instinctively think they're a moron who hasn't ever had to introspectively examine their own privilege. And I'll also take the label as a badge of honour at this point, because given how widely pejoratively applied the label is these days, an "SJW" is essentially someone who is not a cunt.

About the same as I feel about people who throw the term "Nazi" at anyone who doesn't share their exact views.

Throwing it out casually as an insult devalues the actual term tremendously.

It shows that someone is intellectually inferior, not discussing in good faith and is not worth the effort to respond. Same with PC. And then they will go and quote MLK, one of the biggest SJW.

Me expecting people not to be bigot is considered PC. Go figure.

Nah, its meaning still roughly means "cares about LGBT people and/or women, and is therefore a miserable pussy." It exists to shame people who care about minorities and oppose sexism. So it's used mostly by nasty scum who don't respect everyone's basic human dignity.

Also see: cuck. Used to shame people who oppose racism.

Basically, anyone who uses those terms disparagingly without the excuse of honest ignorance is a human failure unfit to live in a pluralistic civilized society.

I don't know, I've people throw this term haphazardly at a lot of different people with different ideas and even at some people who agree with them.

Why can't you just acknowledge the natural superiority of straight white entitled sexually frustrated neckbeard slobs?

They're probably thinking of the old outdated definition, which used to refer to histrionic concern trolling. It's flat out irresponsible to use the term SJW now if you're not a giant asshole, since it's been so thoroughly co-opted by giant assholes.

The perversion of the term sucks so much, because there used to be completely valid use cases for it. The person who takes the most minuscule stupid thing that doesn't really matter and pretends like it's the most horrible thing that ever happened is a real type of person and SJW was a pretty good way to describe those people.

But then the Internet got it's shit covered hands on it and the term now means "Person who isn't an evil dickhead"

anyone who uses "SJW" non-ironically is not someone worth listening to in any context.

These internet assholes think being an "SJW" is the worst thing someone can be. I've actually seen a comment from an internet poster that lumped "SJW" in with "Nazis", "fascists", "communists" in a list of horrible people types ending with "etc".

All these terms have lost any meaning over the past years. Everytime I read stuff like SJW, being triggered, microaggressions, political correct, etc, etc. It is thrown around everywhere and doesn't mean anything anymore.

If you think fighting for social justice is a bad thing, you're probably incredibly ignorant in your privilege

They're probably an idiot harbouring some despicable views.

Haven't been wrong so far.

We should rocket them into the sun.

We should catapult them into the sun.

All of these. Also, they're most likely violent, cowardly, extremely sensitive assholes who label people they disagree with as snowflakes and cucks, while being so themselves.

Fuck 'em. If someone is using the term non-ironically they've not worth giving the time of mind.

If I gotta chose between being labeled Social Justice Warrior or bigot, I'll choose SJW every time. It's not even a contest.

There's nobody who isn't a bigot using it pejoratively, so whatever. Use it. Let me know who you really are. Thanks in advance.

A couple years I used to use it unironically. Unfortunately, it quickly got co-opted by bigots. So if I'm weary of people who use it.

The word is Social Justice Warrior. Someone who fights for social justice. Someone who sees the plight of different minority ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations and works fervently toward righting wrongs aimed at some of the most vulnerable and used people in society not just currently but throughout human history....And it's used by some people as a pejorative to instill shame in people who care. I consider those people either ignorant, lacking in empathy or both.

It makes you sound like a fucking moron if you try using it as a slur.

See also: white knight, "virtue-signaling", professional victim, PC gone mad, etc

Yeah basically. I used to think that SJW was reserved for the people on the left side that are as ridiculous as Rush Limbaugh is on the right side. However, as it is now, if you lean left at all, youre a SJW.

It was an ironic term, hence the "warrior" part.

See Hugh Mungus meme. That's a SJW.

they aren't the masters of it at all, they're blatantly misinformed and have shown their hand at being kind of stupid several times, like when Ethan went all-in on CNN and then realized he dun goofed.

I used to LOVE Ethan & Hila, but their war on the media and generally being kind of ignorant has turned me off of them so badly.

oh, fair enough, i totally forgot about that WSJ / PewDiePie period. You're right.
I mean, they were smart enough not to publicly back JonTron.

There was a very very brief period of time when it was used to accurately label people whose entire existence revolved around creating nonsense injustices to make a scene about in order to get attention. These people weren't interested in making a difference or righting wrongs. They simply wanted to feel smug, superior, and the center of attention.

Very quickly though, as usual, the internet turned it into a broad insult for anyone with a sense of right and wrong who cares about people other than themselves. Now when I see people use it negatively, it's a good bet their are grade A pieces of shit.

I honestly like the term itself, as it sounds noble and could be appropriately applied to people who stand up for what's right.

Then the internet got ahold of it.

It's disturbing that so many people see social justice as a bad thing.
Arguably worse is how these types of people have so many views about a type of person they've never met. They saw a tweet or a youtube vid of a college kid way the fuck elsewhere and now they get so mad at a boogeyman of their design that they pre-react to people who aren't even there.

What about people who use Pepe?

All I feel is complete and total embarrassment for the person using it. Seriously, these people look so damn lame when they write this term. Even worse are the people who actually say it in person. Seriously, nothing makes me cringe harder than the people who actually vocally say it out loud and actually mean it. Ethan and Hila from H3H3productions are generally witty and entertaining people. However, anytime one of them says "Social Justice Warrior" seriously in a video, I can't help but zone out. I'm no longer processing what they're actually saying, instead, I'm thinking "Man, these people sound really fucking stupid right now, the fact that they are unaware of that is HIGHLY concerning."

This SJW term is thrown around so commonly, it hardly means anything at all. Everyone's a damn SJW these days. You write/vocalize something progressive, and you're a damn SJW! Think Trump is acting like a complete idiot, and you're a damn SJW! Browse/post on GAF, and you're a damn SJW! The fastest way for me to stop talking someone seriously is for them to use this "insult."

Do you actually feel insulted or angered when someone uses the term "SJW?" I actually use to a couple years ago. However, these days, it just feels like a joke. It feels like a fad that should have died a couple years ago, but it's still here trucking along...likely forever at this rate.

SJW is not different from anything else. Like other terms, slogans and symbols it is co-opted by different groups. There is no unison on what it means. And that's not exclusive to SJW. That has pretty much been the par for course for any number of words that separate the left and the right. What does it mean, how do you use it, and how dare the other side think it means what I and my ilk think it should mean?

To some people SJW is a term used for preachy tumblr-esque idiots who are as embarrasment as their far-right manchild mirror image on reddit and 4chan. For others, it's just a term for standing out for decent values.

I can see the term being used in both ways. It's not that different from "liberal" or "feminist". I think I can be called both of those in an insulting or positive way, simply by the token of the sender.

It doesn't bother me, because a label is not who you are or what you stand for. Every label or symbol means different things to different people, so when someone calls you something, it's their own world view that is inflated on it.
I cannot decide if you think being called a feminist or a SJW or a liberal is more offensive or more positive. Incidently that is why I don't think it's a good idea to sum up your person or values in a term or symbol.

Yeah, I had to utterly drop H3H3 after they started leaning hard into this anti-feminism, anti-PC, anti-media thing. It feels like they're entrenching themselves in ignorance (mostly Ethan). Like, don't model after your fucking YouTube commenters, man.

I use it as a "litmus test" term to filter people out. As soon as I hear it come from someone's mouth, chances are good this is a person that can fuck off into the void.

For me, varies. At minimum it indicates someone whose understanding of online discourse is ultimately limited, at worst it's someone actively anti-progressive and hateful.

I've a friend from Singapore, and one former associate, who basically run along this spectrum. The former is just... not that well engaged with western media circles, and so easily mislead by memes or hot takes shared to them through other friends. However thanks to us discussing this stuff a lot in terms of fiction and representation, he's learned to increasingly apply a critical gaze to that stuff, and he's increasingly rendered 'Social Justice Warriors' in air quotes when discussing such arguments, implying his doubt in the validity of the term.

The latter though... hoo boy. Puts up a cheery front, but very much plays ignorant when you call him on out on casually claiming that 'SJWs', alongside multiculturalism, socialism, and the left in general, are somehow ruining western culture (of which he is a big fan). Spent much of last year 'asking' what I thought of the possibility of a 2017 where Trump runs the US, Le Pen ran France, and Nigel Farage (fucking what) was in charge of the UK. Explained to him every time on why all three of those were horrific choices both in terms of politicians and their probable consequences, and he would regress to, "Yeah but what if?"

Stopped associating with him, and while these two do know each other IRL, the former has been distancing himself from the latter as he's become increasingly aware of just what the latter's rhetoric even means.

I've quit watching multiple niche YouTube channels when they suddenly posted videos complaining about 'SJWs' in their hobby or fandom. No people are not ruining your hobby/fandom because they want more inclusiveness, no it does not need to be a fucking boy's club, no most people aren't trying to make you feel like a bad person for enjoying something like MGSV when they point out the absurdity and grossness of Quiet's design or the fact that tabletop miniatures games severely lack in female representation.

It's overused, but I do think it has a place in describing the kind of person who feigns enthusiastic outrage over minor cases of political incorrectness - 'Hugh Mungus' 's detractor comes to mind. Or that Uber 'Hah-wah-e' woman.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
I imagine there is an extremely large overlap between people who seriously use the term "SJW" and the kind of person who calls un-racist people "nigger lovers"

It's generally a really good signal that a person you're about to engage with is not a well reasoned individual.

In most cases, that means they quickly become a person I am not going to engage with.
