"He had a handful of my ass.": Taylor Swift testifies in groping case against DJ

On the stand in her groping case, Taylor Swift was every woman. And that's what's so sad.
”He had a handful of my ass. I know it was him."

Taylor Swift is a pop star, one of music's most savvy businesswomen and a $280 million brand.

And yet, she was none of those things yesterday in a Denver courtroom, where she testified against a man who she says groped her at a 2013 meet-and-greet. Swift was just another woman in a world that requires women to insist — to prove, over and over again — that their experience qualifies as truth. In a world that decides, off the bat, that women are crazy or mendacious or simply wrong. And so Swift insisted, more times than anyone should have to and in increasingly descriptive terms, that a former radio DJ had the audacity to put his hand under her skirt and violate her.


Swift was questioned for more than an hour, an hour in which Mueller's attorney told Swift that she could have taken a break during the meet-and-greet if she was so bothered, but she did not. Her mother testified too, saying that the incident ”made me, as a parent, question why I taught her to be so polite."

Swift was unbowed, lighting the courtroom ablaze: ”It was a definite grab," she would say. Once his hand found its target, she testified, it ”stayed latched on to my bare ass cheek." Again and again, she described what she says happened. The Denver Post suggested it might have been the highest recorded number of instances of the words ”ass" and ”cheek" in the courtroom's history.


Mueller is also arguing that Swift's accusation has wrecked his career prospects and his name; for that, he is seeking as much as $3 million from Swift. (She is seeking $1, and in court documents said she filed suit only to ”serv[e] as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.")

In court, asked about the fallout for Mueller, Swift retorted, ”I am being blamed for the unfortunate events of his life that are a product of his decisions and not mine."

It was as if she really was speaking for every woman. And that's profoundly sad.

Why, why, why would she do this to a man who didn't grab her arse?

I mean, there's a chance she could be a witch trying to destroy this poor creature for fun, but compare that to the chance this is just another sleezy dude...

I know which seems like the safer bet to me.

Fucking horrible that women have to go through this. I'd imagine the vaaaaast majority of public groping incidents aren't reported for the simple fact they know they'd have such a horrible fucking time convincing people, let alone a court-room.

why the hell would he do that in such a public place. he first thought hey would be a good idea to grope that woman. then he thought why not doing it when taking a picture? is the picture not what happened but a random picture because thats just buffling.

I may not like her or her music all that much, but no one deserves to get treated like a piece of meat, least not one of the most famous pop stars on the planet.

Yeah he had various attempts at explanations, including that she was thinking of someone else and that one of his bosses told him he actually groped her in Denver at an event. That's pretty brazen, especially given the fact multiple people were already corroborating her side of it and a literal paper trail with the photo being sent to his employer existed.

Glad she outed this guy...honestly makes me more a fan of hers than anything she's recorded.
It takes a lot of courage to risk any bad press associated with you when you've got a brand as big as hers, nevermind any nonsensical backlash she might get for "making trouble".

I mean, that's what lawyers are supposed to do. But considering we have a photo I don't see must room for reasonable doubt as to her interpretation. I've managed to take photos with women and not have my hand down where it shouldn't be, doesn't seem like it's that hard.

As long as it is not lower than the hip, you should never worry. This is about more than just putting the hand behind her, this is groping.
