What are alpha textures?
It's funny because alpha textures are transparency effects, which is what's hurting performance in the Titans I believe, but he's probably referring to lower resolution textures, as were featured in the alpha test to reserve space.

What's being implied - The Xbone can't handle the game with the beta textures and 792p at a high frame rate and they need to cut back to keep 60fps.

Sorry but I think that I'll go with the devs on this one.

This would be hilarious.

I hope the party chat is fixed by then.
What would you say if Titanfall had its own separate partychat?
That was in the TF software and didn't utilize live at all?
That was a huge violation of xbox guidelines? But MS granted a waver cause so much is riding on TF and the proper SDKs weren't ready (and still aren't)?
So if you are in a xbox live party of 4 and go to play Titanfall as a party... lauch the game, then enter a private lobby and your live party disappears?
Game puts you in a separate party system instead?

fix this shit Guerrilla.

That's some high risk/ ambitious stuff he claims. I guess we will see how deep inside Cboat is on March 11th

You don't need to add the sources, they are in the OP. If you hit the arrow to the right of the poster's name it takes you directly to the original post. Just in case you didn't know that already.

They were added after my post, the thread that popped up 2 mintues before this one got locked because of no sources.

so the beta will have a higher resolution and better textures than the actual complete game?

I don't really know what to say other than "wow...they are so screwed"

Compromises being made at the last minute for an Xbone game?

That's a bit hard to believe...

Don't care. Framerate and gameplay are king.

Is framerate king again? I thought that had changed to 'friends list is king' after the Digital Foundry BF4 comparison articles :p

Jesus christ, it was a legitimate question. I think there's a clear destinction between the two "dont care":s. But oohhh sorry I said something potentially negative about your favorite game/console.

So you just like making assumptions then, huh? Titanfall and the XBO aren't my #1. I purchased both the Wii U and PS4 before my XBO and play them more. Nice try though.

Textures is the only thing that I wonder about. Resolution makes perfect sense, party system if the march update isn't up to snuff

RSTEIN

Comics, serious business!
"Don't care" as in "I still think Titanfall is awesome" or "I don't care that the Xbone seems to have problems with coping with a game that a PC cheaper than an Xbone can play at higher resolution"?

Every. Fucking. Time. Can you get the fucking master chief on you overpriced porn hub surfing machine? Why don't you go download some more jerk off instruction videos.

The resolution keeps Titanfalling (sorry can't help myself).

Anyways, I'm interested to see if these rumors turn out to be true.

So, you getting the 360 version then? Or the XBONE version that's really just the 360 version in a different sleeve?

It's amazing how the most basic of posts can spark this kind of mini-backlash. I'm pretty sure he isn't saying graphics are completely irrelevant, but rather that things like gameplay and performance matter far more. I imagine he's perfectly fine with both the graphics and the overall aesthetic of the game, and hearing that it runs at 720p does little to shift his opinion on it.

And considering that the 360 version of the game is being developed by a different studio, I'm not really sure you can say it's "just the 360 version in a different sleeve."

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
What I wrote in the other thread: I can see why they would go for 720p, and it would be a good move, but I am skeptical about the textures. You know why they would want to do that? The beta had better textures after all and did not run like shit, if I am not mistaken. Why would they downgrade textures when they have so much VRAM? (Assuming they are not using the ESRAM for texturing, but even then this would be weird). As a cross-gen game, the memory footprint of the game is probably low, meaning that they must have most of the game partition's 5GB of memory available for textures, and that's a lot. If I am not mistaken, texture quality is almost exclusively dependent on the amount of available VRAM (and after that the performance of the texture streaming implementation).

Isn't that assumption true?

That's my interpretation as well, but maybe somebody has confused alpha-version textures with alpha blending effects.

It didn't have framerate issues to the point I noticed. If there was I wasn't aware while playing

Maybe you didn't notice, but it had MAJOR framerate issues once titans began to populate the map. Framerate suffered heavily. I saw major dips down to damn near high teens "slideshow" status.

To be fair: that was true, the frame rate took a noticeable hit in the beta, especially inside of a Titan. If Respawn are going to lock the 60FPS, they're going to have to either optimise a bunch or make some cuts, and resolution and texture quality are two such options for said cuts.

To be completely fair: that's based on the performance of a beta. I didn't think anyone thought it wouldn't have rough spots but apparently I was wrong. This just goes to how strong the narrative is against how weak the Xbones guts are.

They were added after my post, the thread that popped up 2 mintues before this one got locked because of no sources.

No worries I didn't catch that.

Why the hell would the textures be downgraded from the beta? If he is right it makes no sense.

As quite a few people have stated elsewhere in this thread:

"Framerate suffered quite a bit during the beta, struggling to hit 60, and falling into the 40s when Titans are running around the map, especially inside of Titans"

Downgrading the textures and lowering the resolution to 720p would ease up on system resources to help make the framerate more stable.

Digital Foundry:
Probably the biggest surprise is that, based on our testing, frame-rate doesn't quite remain locked to 60fps - not especially noticeable in most situations, but definitely more of an issue inside the titans. Bearing in mind Respawn's dedication to the locked 60fps experience, we hope that further optimisations are in development, but the videos on this page should give you some idea of the game's current performance level.

Is it really that unbelieveable?

Shouldn't you be working on a new GIF right about now?

Still, in a generation where fists are being banged on tables for full 1080p, this does seem like a compromise - and one that speaks to the team's determination to hit 60fps first and foremost. By and large, Titanfall is a healthy 60fps shooter as promised, but only as long as it's played with an on-foot Call of Duty mindset. With Portal 2's Source engine at its core, it's as fluid and responsive as you could hope for when pistolling Pilots and kicking AI grunts.

However, it all changes once you buckle into a Titan, and in this build we see lengthy passages of play (particularly by the end of a mission) falling within the 35-45fps range. Neither one of the levels on show is especially worse than the other in this regard, and it's clearly the barrage of alpha effects that ends up pressing the hardware too far.

3rd time?

Yea, I got back in the day for Gears 1, then sold it a bit after for financial reasons. Then I got one again for Gears 3, and sold it mainly for the reason that Gears Judgement was a failure in my eyes. Now I'm buying one again. I could afford the Xbox One, but there isn't a reason to buy it if I won't be able to play with my friends. I'll probably end up getting either the PS4 or the Xbox One this holiday, but I'm leaning more toward the Xbox now because of the Gears acquisition, although Gears 4 probably won't release until 2016. As you can see, I'm all about Gears haha.

Well considering how the Beta performed on XB1 when a couple of Titans was on the map at the same time Im willing too belive this.

MAJOR?? you sure about that? I do not remember seeing anything that would be considered "MAJOR".
