Codemaster hints at DiRT 4

Two main things are satisfying handling, and plentiful, fun, long tracks with good variety, both visually and the nature of them.

As an addendum, the fast stretches of road in Dirt 2's deserty stages were pretty intense as it felt like you were one slight mistake away from it all going to shit. Having a limited amount of rewinds prevented it from becoming frustrating and at least for me created a really engaging challenge.

1) pure rally; long, tight and challenging stages, special stages and rally cross, no gymkhana or other gimmicky shit

2) stage creator

3) realistic physics and feel, the game needs to be developed first as a true rally simulator ala richard burns rally, then sugar coated for the casual player with a default setting that has all sorts of driver and controller aids enabled like gran turismo / forza

this way both the hardcore and casual player will be catered for, codies will make more monies and everyone will be happy

4) customizable cameras like colin mcrae rally 2 but with a wider working range

5) ford capri, escort and sierra

Grid Autosport will have demolition derby, so consider picking that up in June.

Also, the less we use the 'S' word the better... =p

Oh I had no idea.
I heard Grid Autosport was going to be less arcadey than the other Grids though and I only really like arcade racers.
Decisions decisions.

My bad...I missed that part. I guess it's multiplayer only? It really doesn't fit in the new career mode they've been talking about.
I don't see why it wouldn't be in single player too.

Anyway I'm sure it's entirely optional if you really don't like it for some reason.

1. Focus on rallying and nothing else.

2. A career mode with different countries.

3. Unique tracks, as in I don't want to be playing the same tracks multiple times in one career like in the previous Dirt games.

This, plus:

4. Realism, both in artstyle as well as driving itself with varying weather effects.

5. Virtual Reality support such as the rift, this would make me very happy.

Most of it has been said but I'll echo it.

1. Rally, Hillclimb, Rallycross and Trailblazer.
2. Much longer stages.
3. Oculus Rift Support.
4. The same multiplayer progression as Grid Autosport where you need to purchase your own cars and they degrade if you mishandle them.
5. No Dudebro things.

1. Longer, narrower stages
2. Hillclimb like Pikes Peak
3. Rain/Night
4. Historical races
5. Dirt 1 with Dirt 2/3 physics

What 5 things are most important for you when it comes to the next DiRT?

1. Rallycross that replicates GRC or FIA rules, like joker laps and realistic tracks. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQjgN9Xvqns
2. A professional vibe for career, so like Autosport I guess, rather than the RV or follow Ken Block around feeling of Dirt 3.
3. An aggregate of all Rally and Trailblazer courses from Dirt 1 - 3, plus a few others. Seriously, give me too many tracks. At the very least I want to see stuff like Australia from Dirt 1, or just all Dirt 1 rally tracks with better car physics. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEeKMlnpCYc
4. For "fun" or alternate/party modes, have "All Cars All Tracks" be a feature or a cheat, same with Grid Starts on Rally/Trailblazer tracks. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZUeA0yQKBw
5. I actually enjoyed the Gymkhana stuff, but please keep it separate. With Autosport making that clear distinction between the different disciplines, I think the same would help Dirt 4. Rally/Trailblazer/Rallycross/Gymkhana/Trucks?

Not sure whats up with all the gymkhana, always thought that was a big thing with rally games.

Id love for their to be better friend intergration, have options for it to be like the Trials games where you are constantly trying to beat friends times.

More rally, less whatever else.
Longer tracks.
Diversity.
Weather.
Career mode.

If you guys like the way cars handle in Dirt3, that's fine with me even if I would prefer something a bit more realistic.

Codies if you were to keep rewind in for Dirt 4 that's cool but make it only rewind your position, not your lap or course timer so rewinding 10 times makes you a slower driver.

There was a game that did that (SSX) and it made it pretty much useless. Flashbacks in a Dirt games were a way for people to salvage a run after a mistake without having to restart the whole race; in SSX once you'd screwed up and rewound time, you were always so far behind if you were going for a medal you were almost always better off restarting.

I think a better idea is options like they've done where you can turn them off altogether or limit how many you have, giving you more XP or whatever.

Exactly... The idea behind rewinds in Cody games or Forza is that if I'm doing a 40min race and crash in the last corner of the last lap I don't have to throw my steering wheel through the window. Nothing is forcing you to use them and they are obviously disabled in Multiplayer so no harm there.

As was said before, this entirely ruins the whole purpose behind rewinding. I too played SSX. It was pretty great, but rewinding made it completely useless.

Man SSX was such a good game. Just had some problems that could easily be done away with to reveal some really great stuff underneath in a sequel.

Will they really say anything more about DIRT when Grid Autosport promotion is in full swing?

Maybe a summer Dirt announcement for late fall /early 2015 release
