in a console much less powerfull

you dont need to work on this game, just have dev background to know the x20 the power because of the cloud its bs,they put you some nice video and people will pull these gifs on any thread to proved the point as if thats is a proof of anything..seriously people :)

So the game wont use the cloud at all for destruction elements?

We had stuff like this years ago, on considerably weaker hardware, without the power of cloud or whatever else….I'm sure they're using the cloud to help, but it's certainly not necessary for the specific example shown in that GIF.

is this a joke post? I really can't tell

You're comparing destructible huts to the levelling of a dense, next-generation city?

with a game world less impressive

Actually, I was comparing it to his post in response to shooting holes in a wall. Obviously Crackdown 3's destruction and world is far more complex, as would be expected on hardware that is considerably more powerful. Whether you need the power of the cloud or 20x more computational power than the Xbox One possesses to do it, is the point of contention.

Looks very cool but I hope they do something with the animations, didn't like it in Crackdown 1. It's got no feel running about and far too twitchy. Destruction looks awesome.

maybe they used on some capacity..not in that 20x powerull and these gifs are done by the console himself, and btw these gifs are made on stations as a prealpha video,si lets wait for the final game,im sceptic sorry

is this a joke post? I really can't tell

these snarky and drive in post are the real joke to be fair

So what your saying is, you have no idea, thanks. I'd take the word of the developers thanks.

Yeah because that really is anywhere near close to leveling a city? I honestly thought you were being sarcastic with this post....

dont worry i know you question was loaded with malice, sorry this is not more a tech discussion is just people in his console war, bailing out,we will see who is right when the game is released i will mark this post, love you all

No they're not, they're done pre-recorded due to how temperamental/early it is for something like this. Especially pre-alpha. That's done on the cloud. Its the exact same which was shown on that demo which was shown at build like 2 years ago? This is the same, just applied in the Crackdown world on a very larger scale.

The company what are developing the code for this stuff specialise in it for petes sake.

That destruction footage looks amazing... I'm kinda disappointed that they needed to limit the cloud processing to multiplayer mode in order to compromise for those who want to play offline....

But I say, fuck those people :)...

My hype meter is now through the roof...

there are entire and big buildings to destroy in the game

With pre-canned particles. You are seriously stretching. You have no idea what you are talking about nor the complexity in running simultaneous physics calculations on that scale while maintaining CPU performance to run the game. I'm not an expert by any stretch, but you seem to be an expert so I would love to hear you provide me with a full explanation as to how this is achievable on a console?

Is M$ just lying and Cloudgnine a fraud?

;____________;

This looks amazing! I've never played Crackdown before but I... I love this! I really REALLY hope that this can come with the first two for free as backwards compatible games because I'm in day one.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.

CPUs in the new consoles are still pretty trash tbh.

I hope they clarify soon how the destruction will work in SP vs MP (and the scope of MP and destruction-- is it only competitive or are there cooperative elements as well?) They only showed off-screen footage when mentioning the single player, but all of the MP footage with destruction was on-screen; I wonder if that also was a deliberate choice by them?

I don't think the examples you posted show how server-side computations aren't needed for Crackdown. Many games implement some form of destruction-- you could have shown GIFs of ScreamRide and the one cutscene from GTA V as well, but the scale of destruction shown here is on another level entirely. From a technical perspective, the destruction shown here is the gaming application of the proof-of-concept shown at last year's BUILD conference at Microsoft shown Here:

EDIT: Even though you are responding to a more microscopic showcase of the destruction, it still looks like the level of detail is a step above games on console that don't have this capability. Either way, I think that JaggedSac is saying there how detailed the destruction is even when it is being used on an entire city.

Surely you aren't comparing the leveling of a city blocks worth of skyscrapers to knocking down a couple of barns in a barren wasteland...

I mean, you do see the tremendous amount of technological progress don't you?

Don't forget the fact that Twisted Metal 2 on PS1 had destructible environments in the Paris level.

Wow, that is some impressive destruction. I am excited to play this. I loved C1.

I hope the wing suit from C2 comes back though.

The trailer talked about "multiplayer experience" when talking about the cloud physics stuff.
I wouldn't expect to have server side calculations in the single player game. It would make the game unplayable with bad internet connections.

I kind of hope the city isn't destructible in single player because I think that would mess with getting the agility orbs.

I completely agree with all the points you've brought up, and have similar questions myself. On a side note, comparing to the original Cloud demo you've linked, it does look like there's been a fair drop in the number of particles exhibited in destruction, but this Crackdown trailer also has a considerably larger overall area with far more buildings etc in it, so it's possible they dropped the amount of particles per individual building, to pave the way for more destructible objects overall.

i don't think red faction had that, though...

It did. Well a form of it anyway. I remember writing my name in to different structures and rock surfaces etc. Instead of temporary bullet holes like with most shooters, it actually dynamically deformed the terrain.

It looks like UE4 destructible assets. The engine has it's own system built in. Basically you take an asset and move some sliders around to determine how many cracks/pieces fall apart and how much force it takes to do so, etc.
