Nice, great pics. Was gonna ask how you managed to get ENB to look like that since usually it's contrast hell, but I see you're one of the few illuminated ones :D

I previously asked about Steam achievements disappearing being linked to using the console but it seems that whenever I use the 4GB.exe they also go away, does this happen for any of you guys?

Yep..

I was also wondering if there is a way to quicksave in NV if you're using a controller?

Those screenshots remind me of my conflicted feelings about The Pitt. On one hand, I think it's some of the best writing from Bethesda period bar maybe Morrowind, and it feels genuinely well-written (underdeveloped maybe, but that's it). On the other hand.. the gameplay is kinda bad.

I am so furious right now, I could scream.

I've spent all day trying to get New Vegas to run with a few mods and it's just not doing it.

I've went through FNVedit to make sure that everything was in the perfect load order and that the merged patch made everything compatible. My computer has more than enough power to run the program. I have the 4gb setup, stutter remover, proper nvse to load the 4gb patch, the CPU tweak in the ini, archive invalidated turned on, boss verified load out, and the game just crashes after a few minutes. Every fucking time.

I know, for a fucking fact, that it's not the mods, since none of them clash with each other, and I just can't think of anything else that I can do. I've spent several hours download, redownloading, tweaking... I just can't get it to do what it's supposed to fucking do. Can anybody recommend something for when the game crashes when entering a building, leaving a building, or when just standing in place for less than a minute?

Uhm.. that kind of crash sounds like a missing master. Can you check if it works if you disable all mods momentarily? From there you can start activating more and more of them until you pinpoint the exact problem.

Yup. With nothing on but main game and DLCs, I can get to the inside of the saloon, maybe, and when I try to leave it crashes.

The only mods I'd have on would be NMCs texture pack (edit: with all the mods turned off). I will say that, for some odd reason, the floor in the saloon is black with the rugs and such showing, so something's wrong with the game loading textures but I'm not sure what.

EDIT 2: Yeah, I'm at my wit's end with this. I reinstalled NMC's texture pack, same results. I can start the game, I can get out into Goodsprings. However, after 30 or so seconds or entering a building, if the floor even appears, the game crashes to desktop. It's not the mods, there's no missing masters, there's nothing incompatible. The game just refuses to play for more than a minute. Is there any sort of setting or ini adjustmet that anybody can think of? Like I said, i've already did the CPU adjustment to make sure it only uses two cores of my i7.

so, yeah, I was right. nothing was fucking wrong. I was, however, god damned idiot. (at least for now).

See, when you're using the 4gb executable to run the game, you must use the actual executable, you cannot use the NVSE loader or NMM. So, I was running the game with the large texture pack, turning on the nvse loader, and the game was crashing.

As of now, I believe that was the problem. I'll have to play with it some more, but yeah, looks like I was dumb. BTW, if anybody wants help making a merged patch not suck I'm now quite the expert in that category! Thanks stupid mistake!

I think there is a version of the 4gb that NVSE will load -

From http://nvse.silverlock.org/
* Is NVSE compatible with the "FNV4GB" loader that enables the large-address-aware (aka 4GB) flag?
- Yes. Use this alternate loader.http://nvse.silverlock.org/beta/fnv4gb_nvse.zip

Yeah, that's exactly right. I didn't figure that out till this morning. What I was doing was using the NVSE_loader. That's wrong. What you do is use the 4gb executable provided on the NVSE site. That runs the large address aware version of FONV with NVSE on top of it.

I'm not joking, at all, when I say I spent in excess of 5 hours trying to figure out what the hell I did wrong. It works smooth as butter now. Stutter remover+4gb+10 minute cell cleaner=amazing.

Plus, I found this great "roleplayer's alternate start" mod that cuts down the intro with Doc Mitchell and replaces it with a start similar to FWE for FO3. Makes beginning the game much more interesting.

Hey dudes! Re-posting my mod list and questions from the official forums since I finally want to play this game for real:

1. Do you see any obvious incompatabilities or other problems?

2. Which other mods would you recommend?

3. Which mods would you recommend me to remove for other reasons (you don't like them etc, please explain why if so)

Few things, from my hours of making sure my game ran as tight as possible.

Get the stutter remover. I installed it as instructed and it made my game run significantly smoother with no adjustment.

I turned AA off and used SMAA (you'll find it on fallout 3 nexus) stand alone. Helped even more with frame rate drops and looks better, to me at least, than FXAA. If you want both, there's a separate download on either NV nexus or FO3 nexus. I don't like ENB, personally, as it seems great for screen shots but when I'm playing the game it's distracting. Just throwing on the high res textures does it for me.

For many people, the game runs significantly better windowed versus full screen. There's a fullscreen fix download that lets me run the game at 1080 boarderless. It'll still crash, but it goes from crashing regularly to only crashing every 2-5 hours.

Make sure you're using NVSE and the 4GB loader.

If you really want to verify your mods are compatible, check your load order with BOSS and then use FNVedit to make a merged patch. Then, tweak the merged patch to make sure everything is smooth as lotion. It's not too complicated and will make sure that a later file isn't overwriting something and earlier file needs to change. (As a side note, FO3edit and FNVedit need to be in the OP).

as for your mods....

Project Nevada has a setting where you can reduce the percentage of experience you get. So, you might not need a separate mod to lower your level gain.

WME (weapon mods extended) seems to have more compatibility patches than WMX does.

Make sure you download the unified HUD project (install it using NMM last) to get all your HUD mods working together.

Personally, I prefer the "Project Reality" weather mod to Nevada Skies. The lighting looks better, the transition from day to night is smoother, and the weather effects seem more realistic.

Good job on CASM. Turn of autosave. Get the version that works with MCM so it's more user friendly.

I really like having the freeside open, the strip open, and side bets mods. Makes freeside and the strip easier to travel around and feel much larger.

New Vegas Redesigned is a must, for me at least. The characters, in many cases, look so bad due to the generic design of the NPCs. This fixes that problem and makes the bad guys look less like clones.

You're gonna want to get the texture packs. If you can run the game, the performance version has very little impact on your system but looks much better overall. I use both NMC and OJO Bueno and I prefer the way one looks over the other in various cases.

Interior Lighting Overhaul makes lighting inside stuff look more realistic. Gives you a reason to actually use the pipboy light.

That's all I can think of so far, enjoy!

Thanks guys! Found some new stuff there.

A question regarding texture replacers though:

I don't like using texture replacers when they're not needed, seeing as they often ruin the coherence, color palette and "look" of a game, but much like in MW/OB, the NV textures are just so hideously low-res that I don't feel like I have a choice. After looking through the pages of both NMC and Poco/Ojo Bueno, I have to say that the NMC textures in general look and fit together a lot better than the Bueno ones. Before I decide though, I though I'd ask what you guys use. Do you care about balance, color palette, "feel" and so on, and if so, how are your experiences in those areas using any of the texture replacers, and which would you recommend? Even though I love the look of NMC in general, from looking at his pictures he takes quite a few liberties with color palette (such as making drab grey wallpapers red or blue, changing floor tiles from grey to a stark black/white pattern, and my least favorite, changing color and wood type of planks on houses etc), and I don't know how well they mesh with the rest of the game.

I actually prefer the Vanilla textures, but if you're gonna use a replacer, NMC is definitively the way to go.

NMC in my opinion stays true to the original look without going overboard. Then again, I use different lighting mods (like ENB for FNV) which totally change how the game looks

NMC is definitely truer to the "feel" of the game, but Ojo Bueno, by no means, destroys immersion. If you're running the super high res pack from NMC, then you can just pick and choose what you like from Ojo to layer on top. Ojo/paco, to me, feels like it adds a bit more color to the world. Things are still beat up and broken down, but it doesn't look like a bucket of mud got thrown over it and dried.

It's all about taste, mang. To be frank, neither of the replacers breaks the game setting, at all. (Well, to me at least). For example, if you put all the Ojo stuff in, you'd notice some classy looking doors and Nuka Cola machines, but things would still be destroyed enough to not look crazy outta place, ya dig? If you have the right weather mod, combined with Director's Chair, you can pretty much make the world fit how you want it to feel by tuning the colors/lighting yourself with little effort on your part.

Interesting list. Does anyone know how well they would work with the restoration project for the cut content?

I´ve been thinking about doing a new playthrough with a new character to reach the DLC I´ve bought but haven´t played yet, so it would be fun to combine that with the mod list and the restored content.

Strip Open - worked for me, no glaring issues

Freeside Open - potential for conflicts, might need a new game

Just read the mod's page, its documented better than what I can remember now =)

Every so often a bunch of things will go black i.e. the rocks will be black or all the character models below the neck will be black. Does anyone know what is causing that?

Probably an archive invalidation thing. FOMM and I think NMM have things to activate it.

Isn´t that mod just for NPC´s and not the players character model? The description suggests that at least.

Reading is hard, skimmed over the word player in your post lol. But I've never been completely satisfied with how my character looks regardless of what mods I use but I always chalked that up to my ineptness at player creation.

Imaginator + SweetFX (still tweaking). The hardest thing to do is to not crush blacks...

Unfortunately I cannot achieve the same thing with New Vegas. -_- It just looks uttercrap by default. Garbage in = Garbage out.

Too much pink for my tastes - but still looks pretty cool!

Yes I corrected it to be more yellow now but the red colors only happens like 30 minutes per day in the sunset. A sunset can be pretty red/orange I think?

What mods are you using for the coloring and the weather?

Only those mentionned in that post. Imaginator + SweetFX.
Edit: Also did some custom modifications in a weather .esp mod after all... SweetFX alone isn't able to cover all zones.

How good is the FWE mod for Fallout 3? I have a ton of other mods and I feel like this requires a lot just to install it after reading the instructions.

It's great, and fixes most of what can be fixed about the gameplay. It was the difference between hating the game and enjoying the actual gameplay while still cringing every time an NPC opened her mouth.

Ok well I have the mutant mod, project beauty, RH ironsights, weapon mod kits, projectreality, FO3 re-animated, and I skipped the energy visual enahancements. So should I be able to install the FWE without a problem?

Yes. Might have to install some patches, for EVE and whatnot, but it's all very easy and simple and explained in detail in the FWE page.

MMM isn't worth it unless you have a card with enough ram. Especially since most people are running it with many mods, 1GB is nothing anymore.
