Well you might want to skip, because online is where the campaign is now. Cups, daily challenges, etc...are racers against real opponents not dumb AI. Not sure it's anything to be intimidated by though. You start out with a trial run to get your faster time, honestly, it doesn't feel cut-throat competitive at all to me.

However, there are still races in the missions as well. complete the first row in Mission challenges at you unlock row 6 which has some tough stuff to get through and a 30 lap race with a Porsche. Don't' know how many total races it's going to be, but to me, the RPG element is very much still here as you earn points, credits and rewards for doing just about everything in the game. Even setting up your own custom races in Arcade mode earns you credits.

Ok. Guess i will wait a bit. Suck because the gameplay is imo very good. Ill wait for a price drop if im just to do single player stuff, beating my time in time trial and single race is something i love doing, but i think i wont drop full price to get it.

Thanks , at least im warned...

I think it's still worth a try if you could, just because I think there's a bit of depth there that I know I personally did not expect.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
Man, restarting a race is how I do it in any racing game. It's part of the fun for me.

I have picked up a lot of bad habits from other games lol. Rewind (thanks GRID), driving lines, etc. Sometimes I ask myself how little me used to get on with GT3 and GT4 without all this stuff.

I've never used any of it. Like what else would I do if I wasn't working on my own lines all the time? The line is a good option to have but it does take a lot of the judgement out of driving.

My PRO took a shit and on the day the demo came out. My PRO was not a jet taking off, it was a pretty quiet, not Xbox One quiet but not that bad. Not sure what happened...it just up and died on me for no apparent reason. Contacted Sony, waiting on a response. Going to escalate the issue if they give me shit. Enjoy folks...hopefully I will be back in the game on the Pro by the time the game comes out.

Tell me about it.

Forza 5 and 6, owned both of them, sacrificed LOADS to get to 60FPS. There is no way unless you were some fanboy that you could ever call its IQ even close to good.

Same thing with some of the GT games. Even Driveclub sacrificed IQ for other things. But Forza 5 is one of the worst looking games I have played to be frank. Coming from PC it was basically a big problem for me. If you can't understand that then I'm sorry.

Luckily, GTS has amazing IQ at least on the Pro. IQ has always been a problem for games aiming to hit 60FPS on the main consoles, and the One was hit even harder because of its lackluster architecture. These things are not hard to understand.

Someone was comparing F5 to GTS, and I said that is BS because GTS looks a million times more polished than that game. It's really simple to understand what I am saying. The reason I said diehard Xbox fans is because to be honest only fanboys overlook flaws on any system. The same thing with BotW on Switch. Jaggies galore. Same thing for many PS4 games like Bloodborne.

At any rate this is a GTS thread, and I didn't bring up Forza 5 in the first place, I was just defending at least the polished aspect of GTS when that poster equated the two.

There are a few problems with GTS, but overall it looks amazing on the Pro IMHO.

I call these two shots 'Ode to Bloodborne':

I spent more time playing in photomode/replaymode than actually playing, lol.

Well the servers finally came online, and I’m not blown away.

Visually it’s a mixed bag for me, incredible lighting ruined by very poor environments and horrendous looking 30fps reflections and shadows cast in cockpit view. Some annoying pop in as well.

And the sounds, I’m sorry to say have not been fixed. The BMW M4 and the MKVII Golf sound nothing like the real thing.
Agreed. Pretty much my takeaway as well. Also needs a proper career. But very sterile feeling environment, almost as if everything was sacrificed for image quality with anemic car engine sound did not leave a good overall impression on me.

No it does not, Cars and lighting looks great, track look ok, surrounding looks average, trees look poor, skybox isn't highest quality, you can see pixels on it, same with backdrops and that's on PS4 Pro on 4K tv.

Like I said it's not a bad looking game but sure as hell ain't gif pretty during gameplay. Replays looks nice, but I don't play replays, I play the game.

Yeah, I was not impressed. I've always considered GT the gold standard in terms of graphics for a driving game, but the only thing I found impressive was the IQ while playing on the Pro. The oval track looks good at night....thats about it.

How many races did it take? Were all flawless?

Asking for a friend...

2 races, not flawless, but I did have to make way for all the reckless c grade sportsman.

This works like RC car racing irl: if someone likes to slam into you because the come into corners too hot, let them pass. They will soon make a mistake an you can pass again.

So I found a comfortable spot in line like that and in two races I was back to be.

The b drivers are noticeably more well behaved. I also noticed racing with c grades that the game was much quicker to ghost them out preemtively.

So far I have a B rating for sportsmanship. I think I dug into an AI or two or something lol. Sorry man I'm coming from Driveclub where it was like Road Warrior.

That's reassuring.

I'm new to online racing, and this ghost mechanic seems like it can be weaponized.

I'm addicted to play sports mode, not because I want to be number 1 ot anything, because I want to get clean race and restore my sr to B. Like everytime I failed to improve my sr, I want to immediately get into the race again.

And Im getting paranoid during a turn, keep checking behind me if theres nearby car before a turn because I keep getting penalty when I got bumped from behind. :(

Looking at the car models in the replay mode while paused is some of the most amazing shit ever, love the free camera mode didn't even take pictures just ogled the cars such car porn man

Obligatory no true campaign mode, no buy (at full price) post below.

Ugh... I knew it! I knew this beta would make me feel this way! The game feels good and is presented nicely. I love the rewards system seemingly throwing credits and experience at me for every little thing I do. I like the online portion with its seamlessness and ease of use. The graphics are great when I've my TV tuned for max eye candy. But, and a big BUT, it just misses the mark for me. It would be exactly what I was looking for if it had that fully featured single player campaign alongside this pseudo-campaign. It's definitely something I'll pick up once they beef up the car and track lists and drop the price but the main draw of GT for me is the rags to riches campaign mode. As of now that's absent.

Though, good foundation that has me excited for future GT's.

I just read something about this in the surprisingly helpful information tab.

Said:

In the penalty settings for various races held in the sport mode of Gran Turismo sport the ghosting during races will be set as follows.

When the DR is D or less, the ghosting during races will be strong

When the DR is C or greater, the ghosting during races will be weak.

That's how I got pushed down to c. There where some people ramming me to slow down but it was mostly people who were legit faster than me and getting frustrated trying to pass.

Irl, if someone is on our butt for very long, you should possibly let them pass. This will avoid alot of collisions and chaos.

What would a “car campaign” even entail just curious because last I checked CTR holds the crown for best

Had a couple of guys bump into me online and none of them got penalties even though they did it during turns... definitely getting better at the game though :) endless qualifying laps are helping me get used to cars.

Spent about an hour and a half with the demo and damn does it look and play great! I know this is not a new opinion but I really wish this had a proper campaign now. Between the bugs in PC2 and the performance issues in Forza, this would have been a front runner for my go to racer this fall. Is there any plans to add a campaign through a later update?

Also is there any way to fine tune the assists so I can have some enabled but turn off auto-breaking?

Edit:

Nevermind, I figured out how to turn off auto-breaking.

Put more time tonight into the various SP content pieces and yeah, after a couple hours, this is probably not for me. I adored GT in the 1-3 days, 4 was also good, but I fell off hard in the 5-6 era, and this feels more like the latter. It's spit-shined nicely, but I'm not sure where GT's soul went. Might have to sleep on it and give it another shot tomorrow, but right now, I think I'm out. :(

24 player online races are something else.

But I really hope they reduce the time between them, 10 minute waits warming up is boring.

Perhaps after many hours in the game I'll feel the same way. But based on my 3-4 hours so far, I prefer the wait times. Maybe not a full 10 minutes, but at least enough to do a couple of practice laps and play with the settings.

Thinking about taking on that 30 lap race. Any tips?

How long was the race, roughly?

Exactly. It's annoying when someone slow can't check their ego and causes and accident and still ends up getting passed anyway.

I basically just stay behind them and let them fuck up. Usually doesn't take long.

Just the same old GT stuff. Not a legit "campaign" like in Need for Speed games. Like the previous mainline GT games. I just want the game to layout a bunch of themed races across the various continents, hand me 10k credits to go pick a beat up, old car from the used car dealership, and I work my way up to bigger and better things from there.

If they wanted to flesh it out with a storyline and a main protagonist, I'd be cool with that. As long it ain't corny and I get the same sense of progression.

Edit: And bring back B-Spec mode. Please.

OK, 43 GB seems excessive for a demo, almost like they don't want people trying it. Made me second guess if the download was worth it, so I look up gameplay footage only to discover the game looks absolutely nothing like it does in photo mode. Genuinely couldn't tell you it looks better than GT5 without seeing a direct side by side, so now I'm very confused as to why we're getting 1 GT game for every 3 Forza games.

Are you familiar with how A-Spec Mode worked in past games? Something similar to that.

You start off with a commercial stock sedan or hatchback that can barely break 90, You start on basic slow races to win prize money and use this money to upgrade your starter car. Add a turbo, improve the transmission, suspension, remove unnecessary weight to the car to convert it into a race purposed vehicle.

Win new vehicles for completing various challenges. Participate in special One-Make races sponsored by the manufacturer (i.e MX-5 / Miata Cup)

Get even faster cars with more challenging competition with more variety of different racing classes.

GT Sport does something different. The typical A-Spec mode that was present in previous games is missing.

It was so much fun, it took a lot of time, but god was it satisfying.

It's all about raising your competency as a driver so you can either pve by beating your own time/ladders or pvp online instead of upgrading your car like an RPG.

I dig it, pure driving.

I also miss the old a spec mode.

Unfortunately, theres no daihatsu storias and Toyota Seras in this game so it wouldn't be the same.

Man I hope they add a lot of stuff. As it is now it's really good but it needs some more cars and yeah maybe some old carreer mode style events.
