Media Create Sales: Week 35, 2017 (Aug 28 - Sep 03)

Its as Nirolak said, Sony isn't likely to have much in the pipeline any more (that we don't already know about) and Tales Of would definitely be something to see in their pre-TGS conference if it exists. Whatever the case, they'll do most of their focus on MH and probably MH bundles in lieu of strong games this holiday.

Huh? did Sony give up the videogame market? Damn, poor ps4.

My statement was more so that I don't expect Japanese publishers to be ready with an especially notable software line-up to show at Sony's TGS event.

Most major Japanese publishers just launched their 4-10+ year in development flagship games, or have the next ones already announced.

Our missing studios are basically reduced to From Software, Tales, and maybe whatever Itsuno has been doing.

By pipeline he means "the pipeline of software that Japanese consumers care about", not whatever Sony plans to sell to the West, rest assured that is safe.

Is this another of your (wrong) insights about japanese market like the one where '' only the 5% of PlayStation games sell more than 200k''?

This is true, for this year they probably won't have many announcements, let alone big sellers ones.

I'm pretty sure I used the word about or around when I made that statement. Sorry I didn't, and sorry for being off by about half a percent. (got it in there for sure this time)

What game do you think Sony will announce at their conference that will sell over 200k?

Week 36, 2017 (Sep 04 - Sep 10)

Bic Camera lotteries September 10

Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 Set - 1.900 (12 stores)
Nintendo Switch Neon Blue/Neon Red - 400 (2 stores)
Nintendo Switch Gray - 0 (0 stores)
Total - 2.300 (14 stores)
Neat number for this week. A bit lower than last week, but amazon had more stock than last week, so I think we should end up at around the same shipment of 50k.

Oh I understood that. It's a shame that japanese third parties won't support the Ps4 anymore.

I know Nirolak already responded, but what is the point of this strawman? I am speaking of this into early next year, we've exhausted a *lot* of major projects already.

Man they're really pumping out those Splatoon 2 bundles. Wish it was the same here, or atleast for the Joycon set. How easy is it to get the Green/Pink standalone Joycons in Japan?

Nope, wrong again. Let me explain it. By using as source the gamesdatalibrary which if i am not mistaken takes the numbers from Famitsu we can see that

2 PS4 games sold more than 1m
3 PS4 games sold more than 500k
5 PS4 games sold more than 400k
9 PS4 games sold more than 300k
17 PS4 games sold more than 200k

This means that 36 games for PS4 sold more than 200k. Now gamesdatalibrary lists 347 PS4 games. With some math, if 36 games out of 347 sold more than 200k, the result is around 10%.

I don't believe you said PS4 there. You just said Playstation. Which when you factor in the Vita comes around 5%

Biohazard / Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition
Digimon Story: Hacker's Memory

Nothing on the level of DQXI or MHW next year, but not barren.

I don't believe you said PS4 there. You just said Playstation. Which when you factor in the Vita comes around 5%
It doesn't matter, this list is based on Famitsu top 30s and is very incomplete of what has come out on PS4 and didn't chart at all.

Isn't the total for PS4 alone more like 22, as long as you include the multiple versions of the same game?

As far as the numbers I looked at, these are:
Dragon Quest XI
Final Fantasy XV
Grand Theft Auto V
Metal Gear Solid V
Persona 5
Dark Souls III
Dragon Quest Heroes
Call of Duty: Black Ops III
NieR: Automata
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
Resident Evil 7
Dragon Quest Heroes II
Bloodborne
Battlefield 1
Tales of Berseria
Fallout 4
Star Wars Battlefront
Dragon Quest Builders
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
Battlefield 4
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition

Holy shit really? I thought DB's all time high is absolutely insurmountable.
Man One piece has the highest single volume sales second and by far the greatest total sales due to running for longer. Dragonball has a higgwr average volume sales but but that's the main not able record it has over one piece. Though currently super's rating are a bit over one pieces but that'a it's own kettle of fish. By now though One piece has reached a bigger impact penetration.

It'a a top 3 total comic sales worldwide ahead of Spider-Man to things in perspective most of that is Japan.

Games wise one piece has never really been close of course.

Nope, wrong again. Let me explain it. By using as source the gamesdatalibrary which if i am not mistaken takes the numbers from Famitsu we can see that

2 PS4 games sold more than 1m
3 PS4 games sold more than 500k
5 PS4 games sold more than 400k
9 PS4 games sold more than 300k
17 PS4 games sold more than 200k

This means that 36 games for PS4 sold more than 200k. Now gamesdatalibrary lists 347 PS4 games. With some math, if 36 games out of 347 sold more than 200k, the result is around 10%.

Erm.

Yeah, I'm not expecting much. I don't see a Tales announcement happening there and From Software will probably announce their next game at a western event.

I'm not sure why you would expect big-ish announcements in a Direct but not at Sony's TGS tbh. Outside of maybe Bokujo Monogatari(sp?) any new, notable game for the Switch is going to be multiplatform, and for those games the PS4 will be the lead platform(both development and promotion wise) so they're probably more likely to be announced in a Sony event than a Nintendo one.

36 is the total amount
C'mon guys
C'mon now that was obvious he was pointing out what he wrote wasn't clear in the case someone believes he made a mistake which people do, do in these sorts of things. Which is why being explicit is the best way do these things.

When I made the statement, I was using Media Create numbers and they do not include all the digital downloads, so I had counted 20, with Horizon just barely missing the cut. Sorry for any confusion.

According to the Game Data Library the PS4 is much more healthy and better at selling games over 200k units than I had stated.

I think the way i wrote the numbers, i was as explicit as i could be. I didn't say i wasn't clear, i said if i wasn't clear to some people. From what i see, most of them understood what i wrote. But hey if you want to crucify me for this, instead talking about the numbers, be free.

Neat number for this week. A bit lower than last week, but amazon had more stock than last week, so I think we should end up at around the same shipment of 50k.
Bic Camera shifts a big amount of Switches to Tokyo, today 1.400 of the total 2.300 went there.

I don't know how representative that split of shipments is for Japan and maybe that's one reason there isn't always a clear pattern between them and trackers.

For this and next week 40-50k should be the standard and for next 2 a small rise. With Mario Odyssey preorders opening, from October and later things will improve week after week.

Yeah this. Sorry i wasn't clear.

Aostia as sharp as always catches the things fast ;)

It was pretty clear to me :D

BTW I am always stunned by the different structure of Sony and nintendo software sales in Japan

Sony platforms use to have way more games, lack many million sellers, don't have multi million sellers but have many games selling "good" (between 300k and 500k)

On the other hand nintendo consoles tend to have fewer games, lack of good sales (between 300k and 500k) but easily have various million sellers and even multi million sellers

Probably this is due to the very different structure the two console owners have in terms of third party relationships

There's a reason why boundaries are placed in the analysis of that sort of data. A lot of people would question that notation because like I said people have and do, do make mistakes so it's not best practice to assure someone hasn't even if you know it's unlikely. Which is ehy these sorts of notations tend to be as absolutely explicit as possible. It tends to be drilled in hard.

Guys

What isn't clear in a bullet point list followed by a written sentence with the exact sum of the previously aforementioned numbers?

2 PS4 games sold more than 1m
3 PS4 games sold more than 500k
5 PS4 games sold more than 400k
9 PS4 games sold more than 300k
17 PS4 games sold more than 200k

This means that 36 games for PS4 sold more than 200k

This is perfectly fine and clear to me, if I am actually interested in understanding what he wrote and not to negate his thesis

2 +3+ 5 + 9 + 17 = 36

Everyone knew exactly what has been said as he been stated several times over and over again. Read the actual conversation.

Japanese-sales exciting times ahead..

I am reeaaally curious to see what the hell is going to happen with the switch in Q4 in Japan.

bigger lines?
people crying after not winning a single lottery for months, thus needing to buy a switch later in 2018?
street riots?
mass hysteria?

but more seriously,

are 300k+ hardware weeks possible? could nintendo be keeping that kind of reserves right now for the upcoming season?

Reading this very page many users attacked him because it seemed that he listed this email data incorrectly and that there was a mistake in writing 17 and 36 games over 200k

He didn't, he listed data in a very clear way in my opinion

I don't see lotteries in December, there will be so big amount of units available, that even if demand exceeds supply the whole procedure won't be functional.

For the most part, I'm expecting the big announcements at Nintendo's event to be games published by Nintendo for 2018.

I imagine the exceptions would be things along the lines of Inazuma Eleven, where they're children's and family brands hopping over to next-gen.
